Vocaltec and MagicJack - when will new interface be ready ?
Wasn't sure where to post this and I didn't see any topic in any sections of other forums.
http://www.vocaltec.com/site/modules/ne ... sYear=2010
Now that Vocaltec and MagicJack are one, and the MagicTalk software is suppose to be available "this week" (that was last week), does anyone know when this would become avaialble ? It seems to be a great leap forward since you would be able to make calls from any internet enabled device (laptop, ipad, smartphone), and not be dependant on the USB device (although I like the device, I also like the flexibility of using the internet on other computers and still being able to make or receive calls). I'm wondering if Vocaltec and MJ held off so they would not be in direct competition with GoogleTalk release last week.
If anyone has a download link, or when this would actually be available, please post some news.

Here is a nice trick. Unplug your MJ dongle and restart MJ. Watch the softphone and you will see it say MagicTalk instead of Magic Jack. I think this was the main reason ( among others) for the MAJOR MJ update last week. On my PC the MagicTalk screen does not last long but it tells me MagicTalk isnt vaporware as a lot of other MJ announced stuff.Paul777 wrote:Wasn't sure where to post this and I didn't see any topic in any sections of other forums.

So I would think it will be here soon. Especially now with GoogleTalk poking MJ in the eye with a stick.

I think you two are talking about two separate things.
bitstopjoe means that the actual softphone will change to "MagicTalk" without the dongle plugged in.
newtoncd means that, when MJ is loading, it has the message "Magic is starting" with the loading graph, just before the softphone loads. Magic what?
It used to say "MagicJack is starting" before the last "Lucky You."
The fact that it now says "Magic is starting" is probably a side effect of the dual use software. The programmer probably meant to make the statement vary based on the presence of the dongle, but forgot to add in the actual string variable before release.
That is to say, it was supposed to be "Magic Jack/Talk is loading," depending on the circumstances.

Enjoys a daily VOIP cocktail made from:
-One shot Magic Jack
-One shot TK6000
-One shot NetTalk Duo
-Two shots Ooma (it's bigger)
Shaken, not stirred.
Google Voice is the chaser.

My icon still says MagicJack too, but the other day when I booted without my dongle, well the MJ dongleconniemadagain wrote:damnit ... mine still says jack ...lychy wrote:When I put my cursor over the softphone icon next to the clock, it now says "MagicTalk" instead of "MagicJack"
Like joe said, the update that happened recently is most likely as a result of this merger.
When it did say MagicTalk I did not try my cursor over the icon, so I have no idea, but I would assume it would have said magictalk since the softphone did..

I saw the softphone screen say magictalk. NOW who knows maybe they disabled that in the last 2 days, with MJ one thing you can count on is things never staying the same.

I remember it saying MagicTalk quite a few times, and when I checked just now it said MagicJack!
IDK what's going on.

Ok I just removed my MJ Dongle and restarted MJ. Sure enough for about 3 seconds or so the softphone showed MagicTalk AND if I put my cursor over the MJ icon it showed MagicTalk as well...
Of course you cant use MagicTalk just yet but sure enough the interface for it is in place for when MJ is ready.....

Has anybody seen this?

I can get this on a Win7 machine and a Mac if I attempt to start up mJ software without the mJ plugged in. Of course, closing the window just makes it pop back up and there's no way to quit this loop other than to force quit the mJ software.
I'm not holding my breath for "the end of the month".
