Too choppy
I'm plugging directly into USB port, Mac Mini, cable modem (not wireless). The wiki article doesn't seem to cover any of this. How come it works for others? Does it pay to buy a different phone to see if that works? The phone was working fine with Vonage. If Magicjack doesn't work, would Skype be any better? VONAGE WORKED. Why??

You may have several auxiliary lines branching off your main feeder line for cable.
Your choppy line sound could be the result of one or two circumstances…
1) The line amplifier isn’t adequate for the number of secondary cable feeds into your home. You may require a more powerful line / signal amplifier.
2) And / or your computer cable feed is not the first feed off the trunk line splitter. It should be.
Ensure those circumstances are corrected then you should experience clear communication through any phone.
