MJ GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Ok, long post. With the new wonderful upgrade to MJ last night, I lost my service totally.
Have spoken to 8 or 9 MJ agents, at least two supervisors and had remote access to my puter almost twice.
When I plug my Mj in, immediately I get an error message that says it is not recognized by windows or has malfunctioned. Try reconnecting it and if it still doesn't work the mj needs replaced. Right after that message, the light goes out on the mj. I have gone through about everything imaginable with this thing. The mj does not show up on any drives etc.
Last night when it first went out I was on the phone. I window came up announcing 2009 product of the year lucky me, haha. This was the MJ talk up grade. When I tried to close the window, which was ontop of the mj pad, I couldn't. the close button didn't work, the mj pad was frozen. I had to use the task manager to get rid of both screens.
I haven't a clue where to go from here. MJ is no help and I have no phone.
I have windows vista 64 bit premium I believe.
If u have any suggestions, please send them to me.
Thanks Dianne

First thing I would do is try it on a different PC, if you can. As there might be something software wise on your PC that the new update does not like.heartlandpom wrote:Ok, long post. With the new wonderful upgrade to MJ last night, I lost my service totally.

Also I "assume" you have tried it on a different USB port ( in the rear of the PC is best) and you are NOT using the extension cord which came with the MJ, piece of crap..

Hi Joe, I am not using an extention cord and have tried numberous ports, none of which work. The crazy thing is I just happened to have a spare MJ here that I got from MJ several years ago by mistake. I tried it and it installed ok. I told this to the MJ support (haha), didn't seem to make any difference.
Still don't have a phone.

Re: Magic Jack
So you are saying an extra MJ works just fine after it installed? Then obviously your current MJ is defective. Unless I am not understanding you correctly.heartlandpom wrote:Hi Joe, I am not using an extention cord and have tried numberous ports, none of which work. Yes Joe you are. I kept pointing that out to the MJ help support. Went through a couple of supervisors and their senior remote access agents telling them this. Yet, here I still sit.
I pointed out to them the error message I kept getting that if it wouldn't install it was defective. What else do I do???

Re: Stupid MJ
IF you bought it directly from MJ and you get a good person to chat with( HA) they MIGHT just replace the defective one for you for $10. IF THEY DO, do NOT plug it in until you chat with them again ( I know I know) this way they can transfer your existing # to the new unit, If you bought the MJ unit elsewhere I don't think there is much you can do other than buying a new one ( and contacting support first to transfer your info) or just use the extra one that is working and let people know you have a new #.heartlandpom wrote:Yes Joe you are. Thanks so much Joe. The other MJ installs without problem. Can't finish it though because it wants me to renew my subscription and it is on a different phone number that I don't want.
I will try the chat again, but have gotten no where with them all day. They continue to want to fix something that isn't fixable.
I bought directly from MJ when it first came out. I think I have a 5 year plan.

Excuse me??? Did you even read what she said? Another MJ works JUST FINE on her PC, so then how, Enstein, can it be her PC? And who's time is she wasting? Yours? Thats easy to fix, don't read nor reply in the forum. See your time is now your own and not wasted.nitemare wrote:You still have not answered the question "Did you try it in another PC?" I bet it is your PC and not the MJ itself. Go try it on another PC or else you are wasting everyone's time.
Plus odd as the only post you made to "HELP" was of no help at all, just a waste of OUR time..

If it makes you feel any better, I have exactly the same symptoms. I have two MJ's. The old one starts up just fine; the newer one (post April '08 ) gives me fits. After the last "Lucky You" upgrade, I thought for sure I was going to have to pony up for a replacement. When I plug my Mj in, immediately I get an error message that says it is not recognized by windows or has malfunctioned. Try reconnecting it and if it still doesn't work the mj needs replaced. Right after that message, the light goes out on the mj. I have gone through about everything imaginable with this thing.
However, being more than a little OCD, I kept fooling around with the darn thing and it eventually worked. It's been like that for a long time, which is why I usually leave it plugged in with the computer on.
FWIW, I've never been able to associate the success or failure of the darn thing to connect with anything specific. Sorry I can't offer any help, but don't feel like the Lone Ranger.

Well, heres an update Joe and Lone Ranger. Incidently, glad I'm not alone.
I can't believe I spent most of my day yesterday with MJs so called support when last night I decided to try one more time. I'm not the smartest kid on the block, but when my puter tells me it has malfunctioned and needs to be replaced, even I can understand that. Too bad most of MJs support couldn't. Could have saved us both a lot of time and frustration.
Anyway, I called and got Monica. I put it to her in simple terms and told her I needed a replacement. Well, she needed to transfer me to someone higher up:)
Finally, I got Blake, bless him!! I told him the problem and wanted a replacement and it wasn't 5 minutes where the transaction was completed for a new unit to be sent. Thank Heavens for small favors.
The down side is I won't have a phone til the new unit gets here.
This MJ support is really sad

Re: MJ GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRR
Good for you!! Just remember NOT to plug in the new unit until you get back on with CHAT support FIRST. They will be able to transfer your old MJ # to you new unit, I do not know if they can also transfer the time left on your old unit as well. If you forget and plug it in first? Well you will just have to live with the new #.heartlandpom wrote:Well, heres an update Joe and Lone Ranger. Incidently, glad I'm not alone.

Joe, thanks so much for our help and support and others. MJ, to say the least, is frustrating
Blake did take my current MJ number. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.
I really hate thinking I have to deal with all of them again, ugh!
Thanks though for the heads up and I will try to remember.
Wish when I started having problems with MJ, I would remember to come here for help. Most of the time I forget

LUCKY YOU! ... you moronic, gullible, chump
I'm truly tired of the MJ upgrade traumas and I'm through with it after a couple of years of fighting this ripoff PoS.
My replacement solution of a free Sipgate account, X-Lite softphone and GV for outgoing calls is working better than my MJ did and it's all free.

Friend I am not agree with you.
It really doesn't matter from where did you purchase the magicjack. If your magicjack is defective and you have gone through the troubleshooting with support then they will issue replacement. Important is that the defective device must be registered. If this is a new one then MJ support can not issue replacement in any condition and would suggest you to purchase a new one.
Now come to the second point , you will get same number and remaining service of your original magicjack on replacement device. You do not need to contact to MJ support for transferring of your old number. They ( MJ support )have implemented this procedure in Feb 2010.
When you will plug in replacement Jack first time , you will get a prompt to login to your account . Just verify your login and your replacement device will be ready with your old number. If the replacement Jack does not ask you to verify the login after plugging in and you get an option to register then DO NOT GO AHEAD AND CONTACT TO MJ SUPPORT.
They will ask you to find out the serial number of the replacement Jack and then they will transfer the old number to new Jack.
You can find the serial number of magicjack from the Menu of dial pad or through the device manager.
In case if you purchase the magicjack from store then you need to contact them before plugging in.

IF, in fact , this is something new with MJ, I for one will not be testing to see what you say is true.Magicjacktechsupport wrote:bitstopjoe said :

MJ has NEVER, in the past, replaced a MJ dongle which was purchased other than at MJ itself. PLUS if you are wrong about keeping your current # prior to plugging in your new unit and then contacting MJ support, then what? You are screwed and your old # is gone. No thanks. Maybe some other brave soul here is willing to try that, not me.
Just because your handle here is Magicjacktechsupport means squat to me, in fact if you are ANYTHING like the MJ online support I don't believe anything you have to say, unless they gave you a new script to read.
Sorry I am not buying it unless I hear back from some others on here whose opinions I DO trust..

Replacement magicjack
My experience with a replacement magicjack:
1. They charge $10 for shipping.
2. The package appeared identical to my original magicjack except it included a sheet with instructions on how to transfer the number from your old magicjack.
3. Against my better judgment (and because I'd rather have a sharp stick in the eye than endure another chat) I followed the instructions and it worked!
I suppose the procedure would also work if you were forced to purchase a new one at retail - but with these guys - who knows.

Congratulations on your replacement magicjack. To transfer your number from your old magicjack to your replacement magicjack please follow the steps below.
1. Plug the replacement magicjack into a usb port on your computer.
2. Enter email and password (the email and password that was used with the old magicjack).
3. Select the magicjack number that is being replaced (please insure that you select the correct number to replace).
Note: Once the number has been transfered to the replacement magicjack, the old magicjack will stop functioning.

I really love the last 'Note.' If the xxxxxxx thing were still 'functioning' I wouldn't have needed a replacement now would I!
If you're ever in the SF bay area, visit the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. They have a fantastic collection of professional and consumer computer items ranging from a Cray supercomputer to a lowly Atari game system. The full gamut of items from huge successes to total failures. I'm guessing a magicjack may find its way into their collection sooner than many might expect, to be displayed right between a SyQuest SparQ drive and an Apple Newton.

I had purchased my first magicjack in july 2007 and joined this forum with another name but later I forgot my original login credential and associated email address.
Right now I have 3 MJ and all are working fine except one that was purchased in March 2010. MJ support issued replacement after troubleshooting of an hour.
You can read online FAQs to get info about the replacement .
Good Luck Joe and Tom
