magic jack "upgrade" and accessibility

Greetings!
First time poster, sorry about this. I use a screen reader, jaws for windows by name. After the latest "upgrade" I can no longer read anything in my mj's window. That includes who last called, etc. how do I get a downgrade to stick? If I downgrade it'll just reupgrade itself once I've moved it over to the other computer. I guess I could write-protect the drive afterword but I don't know if that will work. I'm using windows xp pro with a linksys wrt54g router and time warner cable internet.

Sorry but the last update was a doozy and messed up a LOT of people in its wake. Your screen reader is having trouble with the LOVELY light green MJ now uses and even us well sighted people hate it and have problems with it.
Sorry to say I know of NO WAY to make the downgrade stick. Many have tried to figure out a way but no one has found a sucessful way of blocking a MJ "LUCKY YOU" update to date.
Also I do not think write protecting your drive is a good idea as Windows needs to read AND write to itself so there is no logic in that.. Sorry

Hello,

I feel your pain. I am a jaws user, and the last upgrade broke the accessibility features. However, you can access your 911 info. If you rute your Jaws curser to the PC curser and go to the bottom, you can hit the left mouse button on the combo box and go back to the PC curser and Hit ctrl home and browse to the top. You cannot access your last calls. I usually use the telephone. If you are really unhappy about it, you can send an e-mail to [email protected]
and complain about it. Lucky You...

If I downgraded and ran without the USB dongle then I couldn't use the phone itself. If they'd just implement *69, then I'd be ok. So it's not just me.... You may want to check into the MagicFeatures Plugin as it does do a form of *69. Here is the link. http://www.pcphonesoft.com/
I use it and it is a God send to MJ users, in my opinion... Also send a private message here to redpepper as he can go into more details for you.

thank you for the link. I'll have to save up for a few months to be able to afford this, but it looks like it may be worth it.

I've also managed to successfully use the USB device with speed dialing for skype, so if they continue to break mj even further, that plus skypeout may become a viable option, although I wish the skype-in number wasn't so expensive.

if I could figure out what they've changed, exactly, I may be able to have someone write scripts for the softphone.

That is why redpepper is the man to talk too.. If anyone can help you he can. I think they just had a 20% off sale, but it might have ended so I would ask him about it. I am out of work so I know what you mean about affording it.

You don't need a computer to use the NetTalk Duo.

There's a similar service to net talk that's a lot cheaper called broad voice. I may look into that, as well. I used to have vonage and absolutely loved it. Can I get the same featues, i.e do not disturb, *69, etc with net talk? I'll check on broad voice.

No, NetTalk does not offer star 69, or do not disturb. They offer three way calling, Call Waighting, voicemale, and a few other features. Also, NetTalk can be very picky with the routers that it works with. There is also Ooma but it is a little more expensive. If you want to get vonage back, they offer Unlimited world for about 30 bux a month.

FWIW, they do claim to offer DND. I haven't tried it, personally.
