Slow detection on outgoing Calls with PAP2T

I followed this article "Tomato Version of MJMD5 (aka mjproxy)" to the T and got everything setup the first shot.

I have a PAP2T-NA with TomatoUSB firmware on my router.

It registered Fine, I am able to make outgoing and receive incoming calls. The only thing I am seeing that isn't a major problem but would like to know if anyone else has seen this issue.

When I dial using my phone attached to the ATA device, it takes over 10+ seconds from finish dialing to hear the first ring. I tested this with calling my home phone and cell phone and same issue. Seems to be a delay.. not sure if there is a setting for this. I couldn't find it in the forums after doing some searches.

When I Dial through GoogleVoice to my MagicJack number as soon as it finishes dialing, in about 1 seconds or less my Phone rings. So it seems to only affect outgoing calls.

I am in Ontario, Canada, and GoogleVoice and MagicJack number is in the USA, does that make a difference? I am connected to the SanFrancisco proxy.

Also, one more questions if anyone knows, when following that article, I see the "Register Expires" by default is set to "3600" but on the screen shot it is at set at "180" is this only because you would want your ATA device to register with MagicJack servers in case you are disconnected from the internet? Or just the ATA device actually register over and over again with MagicJack servers every 180 seconds?

This is just a guess but take a look at your dial plan for the ATA. I'm far from an expert but apparently some wierd things can happen with that.

For what it's worth, here is what I've been using for over a year

For what it's worth my ata will not make or receive calls after awhile if the registration is set to high. 180 works great and I have not had any problems with that setting. You can also use a proxy that gives you better response time. Try using different proxies and see which one works best.

Thanks for both of your answers.

I tried the new dial plan string and forces me to dial "1" before my US or Canadian number which I don't really want but it did improve the delayed response, now it is under 5 seconds.

So I reverted back to the default string that came with the PAP2T-NA device and dial the 10 digits without the 1 in front and it took 10+ seconds again. So I was curious, and Dialed the same number but with 1+10Digits, and it brought the delay below 5 seconds again. Interesting...

I am guessing it has something to do with Distance response or detecting if the number is US or Canadian before dialing out?

Thanks for the info on the 180sec setting.. I will leave it at that, as it has been working fine.

In the 4th grouping change the 850 to your area code. 7 digit dialing and pretty much instantaneous dialing.

Thanks for the info, this was really instantaneous and I didn't have to dial a 1 in front of the 10 digit number!
