Fix for the T5700 hp units with 256meg NO need to buy 512m+
I finally got the 256 t5710 working with the new magicjack upgrade.
THe how.
Plug in a usb stck to the unit.
On boot up change your default boot to the ATA
Then
Download the file called junction v1.05 if using embedded xp.
copy the exe to the windows dir while in a administrator
commit
run junction from command prompt
accept lic
open my computer
note the usb drive letter
go back to command
in command create you new dir for the user you want to run the MJ on the new usb stick
Run this command ..
junction "c:\documents and settings\xxxx" ( xxx being the user you want to run mj ) "f:\documents and settings\xxxx" ( again F: being what my usb drive showed up as" enter
It will link the dirs to the F: ( aka lots of space )
go into the control panel and choose profiles
select the profile that the user you want moved.
once in there choose the new dir ex: F:\documents and settings\xxxx
choose the user who can access this profile
select done
almost there.
( DANGEROUS PART )
I take no responsibility for this if you screw this up.
open regedit
click on the HKU key
click file then load hive
Drill down to the F:\Documents and settings\xxxx and choose that users NTUSER.DAT
it will ask for a key name type xxxx ( again this being the user you want to edit name)
once loaded .. drill down to the Software - Microsoft - Profiles -
This is the tricky part .. You need to either remove the ones you do not want in this list or copy the administrator same path within the registry.
Please search for the how to see all drives on the t5700 for a user this will show you how to change the user profile to all that user to see the flash drive you plugged in.
If you need more help I will post my NTUSER.DAT later today for you to look at.

Yes sorry this will work on the 256 version no need to UP
Yes 256 meg unit will work. No need to upgrade it to 512.stevereno wrote:So, will this allow the latest MJ update to work on a 256MB thin client? It's my understanding that folks with 512MB (or greater) units are not having issues.
Already received and installed the new 512MB for $16. Works great! Reformatted and installed MJ update. Works perfect!!
235 MB Free when all said and done! I still uninstalled:
Media Player,Citrix,TeemNT, and Sygate.
I installed the latest version that runs on 5710:
5.1.336 Rev. A (26 Jun 2007)
Get it here:

How much space left on C: when you are done?tonyben wrote:

Not that it matter for most ppl . This unit is only for MJ but hey there is 58.9 megs free, if you do not count the virtual space of 3.8 gigs under my home dir or any dir i wish to use the virtual tool.Diggs wrote:How much space left on C: when you are done?tonyben wrote:

To me i would most likely use the usb drive if i needed space. You only have 250 megs free ,I have over 3.4gig free once done. Again, you got the cash to blow great for you.
Remember you can link any dir on c: you like with this app.
Thanks

Any one try to install the newer versions in the 5710
I notice in the description the newer versions are for the 5720 and 5730 models
Thx in advance for your time

Thx Ann
Ann.Cal wrote:They are not for the 5710. They all require 512MB flash. Even with a 512MB flash card, you will be pushing it. But the main issue is the ram might also require 512MB ram (instead of 256MB). You prob will get worse performance running those on a 5710 (if it runs at all).nitemare wrote:Already received and installed the new 512MB for $16. Works great! Reformatted and installed MJ update. I dunno Ann. As your post stated, the versions following 5.1.336 don't list the t5710 in the release notes. I'd advise against imaging anything higher than the recommended 5.1.336 Rev. A onto the 5710. Not sure what would happen but I bet it wouldn't be pretty. Someone with more of a software background than I could answer this question more authoritatively.Ann.Cal wrote:I notice newer versionsnitemare wrote:Already received and installed the new 512MB for $16. I've been playing around at home with the 5700, the 5710 and the 5720 for the last couple of weeks. Currently, thanks to some good timing and plain old LUCK with eBay, I've got two 5700s, one 5710 and two 5720s I'm experimenting with. At some point, I'm gonna post my results. I'm looking at things like running the mj with and without MagicFeatures loaded, power usage with all three models and slugglishness / responsivity of each with and without MagicFeatures. Still have lots of work to do but I hope to have some results worth posting in a month or so. (I hesitate to use the word "soon" because of the "yeah RIGHT" emotional response magicJack has managed to attach to that word).
Hope that helps. Didn't mean to get so wordy.
More to come in the Thin Client threads.......er.......um......SOON!
There. I used it anyways.
MJ user since Feb '10
MJ MagicFeatures user since Mar '10
NT TK6000 user since Apr '10
Dedicated MJ Thin Client: HP t5710 1.2GHz 1gF/512R, running MJ, MagicFeatures & TightVNC, 12-15 watts w/o monitor, roughly $1.25 per month electric cost

Do you have some results regarding power use and performance?V-Man wrote:I've been playing around at home with the 5700, the 5710 and the 5720 for the last couple of weeks.
