When will they fix it? What do you do, to push them??
If you read a few messages up you will see they DID fix it with MJ 2.03. Heck one of the posts even has the link for the update ( HINT: it is on page 10 posted by cameron2003mj).
Do you want us to download it for you and install it too???

Now come on Joe ;) you said last week in a post that you were going to give up on comdemming people for not searching first :) a litte nudge here and there really isn't such a bad thing, and probably easier than trying to teach newbies to our site :) Maybe you could ease up on new members, saywith only a post count of 1-5, and then let loose when they still haven't learned to search for themselves.....or....I went to some site the other day that had in big red letters at the top of the screen: DO NOT POST without searching first!!!!

Simple Batch File

Post by aje3892 »

bitstopjoe wrote:What works for me is to go into the power settings, click never, apply then ok. Back into power set it to 5 min ( or whatever you want) apply then ok. It works fine until you reboot. At least for me XP SP3.

Joe Sica
I created a batch file that you can place in your startup folder.

The power scheme I have running is "Max Battery", but you can replace that text with whatever scheme you are using.

This sets the monitor timeout to 'Never'

POWERCFG /CHANGE "Max Battery" /monitor-timeout-ac 0

This sets the monitor timeout to '5 Minutes'

POWERCFG /CHANGE "Max Battery" /monitor-timeout-ac 5

If you need help making a batch file do a quick search online.

---------
@ECHO OFF

CD C:\

ECHO Configuring Power Savings to Override Magic Jack %1

POWERCFG /CHANGE "Max Battery" /monitor-timeout-ac 0

ECHO HIT Any Key to Continue (Monitor Timeout set to 'Never')
Pause

POWERCFG /CHANGE "Max Battery" /monitor-timeout-ac 1

ECHO HIT Any Key to Continue (Monitor Timeout set to '1 Minutes')
Pause
---------

Hope this Helps

Since they fixed it with MJ 2.03 why bother running a program to fix it??

I didn't read the whole forum since it was 11 pages long and magic jack still does not allow my monitor to go into power save mode.

Did you update your MJ to 2.03?? You are most likely running 2.0.1. Right click on your MJ icon in the lower right tray. You will see your MJ version there, but it will be grayed out. If it says 2.0.1 just go the MJ web page and dl/l and install the update. Once it is 2.0.3 it SHOULD fix the power save mode. It did for me and many others.
Oh and the fix was mentioned in the last 2 pages or so no need to read all 11. Just peruse a tad..

My MJ version 2.03, shows as 2.05xxxx on the windows add/delete program. I get my version number from the MJ screen, which I'm assuming is the correct version, 2.03.

Gee one would "ASSUME" he got the version from the actual MJ icon, right?? That is the one most of us go by... IF he got it elsewhere then I would take what he said with a grain of salt until someone else can verify it the way we do, via the icon and a right click.

Actually, I prefer the left click on the "menu" tab. My carpel tunnel acts up with too many right clicks. 8)

Anytime I show a smiley face, I'm having fun.

And I had fun with Amigo, I vaguely remember the days when I was going to save the world too. I commend his passion, just not sure "Evil Dan " is worth the time and effort over a $40 device. I still think Dan must have kicked his dog or plowed down his mailbox.

The ONLY way to have really good fun is at someone else's expense, in my cold-hearted, only caring about myself world (that was for those who took Amigo-boy's side).

Nah, I'm not digging out a monitor and attaching it to the TC just for that. I do stand corrected, Windows file properties on the downloaded upgrade.exe is no way to get a version number. That's more like a build number or some other internal designation.

Yeah probably and yep no point since you have TC and it's working just fine. If and when you need to make an update to it just do a quick check to see what version you have. As many here are curious, if indeed, MJ has been updated yet again.. Of course by then MJ will be up to version 3.09 :)

Well I was stunned that a fairly simple "be careful what you wish for" comment exploded like it did. That's 30 hours of my life I can't get back, but it was all good. Keeps the blood circulating and the arteries open.

IT WORKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by [email protected] »

OMG, I almost had the BIG ONE, you know, huge chest pain and it's all over !!

I downloaded the MJ upgrade on page 9 of this thread. First off it worked and the MJ still works so I have version 2.0.4; my computer goes into screensaver and the monitor actually shuts OFF - all by itself. Now I have one question.

Why aren't the idiots at Magic Jack automatically giving all of us this Repaired upgrade or at least letting us know it is available, just like they gave us the previous one without warning that first lost all your Contacts and then wouldn't let your monitor turn off. I know, it is RFS -- They are Really F'ing Stupid !!!

but thanks MJ for fixing it. If I hadn't looked at this site again, just by chance, I'd still be po'd about this everyday. Thanks to you guys here.
p.s. Contacts are still there too --- yaaaaah !!!

If I right click the icon for magicjack by the clock, it shows version 2.04, which is grayed out. Don't know what the changes are from 2.03, but my screen saver works again!

Actually the screen saver started working in 2.03. You must have had a prior version to that.
So far the only thing I see different with 2.04 is a bolder font in the conctact list which makes it MUCH easier to see.

2.04 no different?

Post by drokkon »

Well, I just forced the update to 2.04 and now, while my screensaver will still start, the monitor no longer turns off. I don't have the PC set to go into standby, mind you, but just to have the monitor turn off so I can sleep and don't have the LCD burning 24/7 when I'm not around.

Are we sure that 2.04 doesn't have issues?

Since 2.03 ( and now 2.04) my LCD monitor has powered off just fine.. I never use a screensaver, I just have my monitor power off after 5 min.
All I can suggest is you update your video card drivers, or at the very least reinstall the ones you have. Always a good idea to go to the video cards mfg from time to time and get their updated drivers..

Windows 7 screensaver still has problem ... confirmed by MJ

Post by questionauthority »

(note: see update below)

I have Win 7 and MJ version 2.04 (recent automatic "upgrade") and when the prior "upgrade" happened and the MJ chat line couldn't help I spent a long time searching for a solution. Finally found the solution on this site (the commands to restore the power settings) which WORKED. Thank you.

This time I did the online chat thing again ... and after an hour of foolishly, slavishly following their (3 different people) repeated requests to click on and run an "upgrade" link I finally got this admission (names have been deleted):

You are now chatting with ' ...... '

Your Issue ID for this chat is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

support: hello user

user: Hi support, please verify for me that Windows 7 screensaver and Magicjack are incompatible and that you have No Fix For It

support: i see, yes, we have a minor glitch regarding the screen saver, specially windows 7 OS. but don't worry, we are already on to it.

user: so ... what do I do?

support: as of now, your screen savers will work if your magicjack is not active.

support: we are still making some tests, and apparently, there are some conflicts.

UPDATE: Nov 7
It turns out it IS working. I am thinking it is that I probably just had to reboot the computer for the fix to take effect. (They didn't tell me to reboot it ... and so it was just for another reason I rebooted it ... and the screensaver now works!)

I'm having the same issue like everyone here with Win XP's Suspend / Sleep and the Power Saving mode. I searched for several variations of 'how to tell which sw / fw version' is installed, but I was unable to retrieve the answer.

So please... how can I tell which version, ie, equivalent in Help>About of the MJ is presently installed? ...and if by updating / upgrading may result -- potentionally solve this MJ insomnia?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

If you mean screen saver mode or power off the monitor mode then sure the latest update will work, IF you mean sleep mode for Windows then NO, MJ will not work.
To find your current version of MJ right click on the MJ icon on the lower part of your screen. The version number will be directly below the Terms Of Service, but will be greyed out. I believe 2.0.4 is the latest

a work around to shut off monitor, enable screensaver, etc.

Post by dbcooper »

being someone who likes Linux and command line tools, I figured there is probably a way to defeat the evil MJ and its attempt to rule our computers - specifically, keeping us from turning off the monitor to save power, the monitor, etc. MJ must have some fairly freaky code whores because what they have done is completely unnecessary

so anyway.....

I run MJ on a Windows XP box - XP Pro if that matters - and I found this utility

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html

nircmd

will pretty much do whatever you want it to . . . but you have to use the CLI - or command line interface (you know, start>run etc.)

It is very simple and there is a page of instructions/options to use.

for the most part, after d/l and installing the software - it is a small utility - right click on both executables in the folder where you unzipped nircmd and make sure they install.

then, go to the command line - and you can set up a shortcut on your desktop to open a box with a command line or you can even create a script that will run the following command for you but anyway
nircmd.exe monitor off
and that should do it. Move the mouse or touch a key and the monitor springs back to life.

Windows 'saves' the command you typed (along with any others) so in the future you can use your up/down arrows or just start typing and nirmcd/windows will offer you whatever options you've already run....

I know we shouldn't have to do this - but, it solves the problem with as little as one mouse click . . . so until something better comes along...

happy trails

Since MJ FIXED the screen saver problem, why bother??
If you are still having the problem then you need to make sure your MJ is at the latest release (2.0.6). Otherwise you have some other issue preventing your screensaver ( powersave) from working..... I would disable it, save, then re-enable it and save again.

MJ fixed the screen saver

Post by dbcooper »

Well . . . I do have the latest version of MJ . . . and I still have the problem.

My screensaver always works; just not the ability to turn off the monitor/put it to sleep after . . . 15 minutes, whatever;

[update]

Ok, I removed MJ - including a scan for files not removed during typical removal; rebooted, then restored all default power options by

start>run>cmd

and at the command prompt typed in

powercfg /RestoreDefaultPolicies

which, as it says, restored user default power settings....

made sure screensaver and monitor power saver options were working again

rebooted, plugged in the MJ and . . . voile.... screen saver and monitor power off/suspend work again

So, thanks for your prodding. I'm not positive MJ mucked up the power settings, but at least for now they are back and working.

Take care.

dbcooper

Oh - I'm going to do a read through on your Linux-related stuff and see if I can get this thing work on a Linux box

What I had to do to get the power save to work was this.
Changed it to never... Then click ok. Then I changed it to 5 min ( which is what I use) and then click ok again. It has worked ever since the last MJ update.
So far you are the only one, that I saw anyway, to say their monitor does not go into power save mode with MJ running since they fix it with an update last yr.. I am using XP SP3.

Sounds dumb, but did you try another USB port? Not use the short extension cable?

Hey - just saw your post after mine posted and the screen refreshed; thanks again for your help. I had been battling MJ for a long time off and on - for awhile used it on a Vista box and that seemed to go ok.

Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed that this one takes.

another problem

Post by dbcooper »

So I just thought of this - that I should post my other MJ problem; which is:

On an incoming call, the computer makes a noise like a fax machine (that high-pitched static/squeal sound we all love so much) and then goes back to ringing as usual. This happens with Windows XP but not with Vista; could be specific to my sound card.

And I never get a caller ID - when I ran this on Vista, yes. On Windows XP, no.
