Privacy concerns

Post by MichaelScott »

I've been using the magicjack for a few months now but some online research into the product has scared me a bit. I know in the EULA they say they record numbers that you call, but I was wondering if they monitored your conversations as well. Also, does the magicjack program monitor web traffic or log keystrokes?

Shhh. They're listening.

They're in the walls!

They're IN THE WALLS!

There is nothing to indicate that they're listening to the calls. That would probably violate wiretapping laws, don't you think?

MJ is not spyware. They may track numbers dialed for statistical reasons, in the hopes of using targeted advertising, but that is the extent of it.

Besides, most people talk about sheer nonsense. Who wants to listen to that? ;-)
Enjoys a daily VOIP cocktail made from:

-One shot Magic Jack
-One shot TK6000
-One shot NetTalk Duo
-Two shots Ooma (it's bigger)

Shaken, not stirred.

Google Voice is the chaser.

If you're really paranoid, I wouldn't use any phone of any type. The Federal Government readily acknowledges that every conversation in this country is taped by the NSA looking for terrorist activity. And I'm sure once the software is done scanning for their key words, they hit a delete button real quick.

They Are LISTENING!!

Post by tekknokat »

I wonder how many times they have to rewind, and hit delete, because somebody says,
"this shit I'm smoking is really the BOMB." or
"That crazy bitch was BLOWING UP my phone all day." ??

our national security is at stake you know ...

It would be an interesting job for the first few hours. But can you imagine listening to that crap day after day after day.

Unless you're cheating on your wife and she gets hold of the texts and calls sitting on a server in the divorce proceedings, or you are doing something illegal, privacy concerns are overblown.

I just looked up the "world population clock" and it's approaching 7 billion. If only 1/7 of the population has phone/internet usage (and it has to be higher than that), can you imagine the volume in just 1 day from a billion people? But Microsoft and Google are after me.

That said, of course, I would still prefer that didn't keep MY stuff.
