I solved my problem with the magicjack that I've had for years and thought I'd post it here since this site helped me fix it....indirectly. Thanks FORUM!
I had the magicjack plugged into the usb on the computer.
Sometimes I could be called....mostly my calls went to voicemail.
First I stumbled onto a website that said I should make sure the USB was not powered down by windows for power saving. I made the changes in the device manager and changed my power plan to make sure USB was not being powered down.
That failed so I searched more and found that maybe the magic jack needed a powered usb hub. I had one in the drawer....I plugged it in and plugged the magic jack into it....still same problem.
I was determined to figure out if the magic jack was working at all so I downloaded Microsoft Network Monitor to see if it was communicating on the network....it was.
I then found this site and a post at the end of this one...
http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/inco ... t9847.html
which suggested that something may be wrong with the router.
I have a Trendnet TEW 631BRP router...
Under "advanced->firewall"
Under Application Level Gateway (ALG) Configuration
I unchecked SIP.
Under NAT Endpoint Filtering....
I changed "UDP Endpoint Filtering" to "endpoint independant"
I'm not a network guru....and I think that probably that opened my network more to hackers.....but the MJ works now!
I'm assuming that the router was not routing the ring to my MJ because of some internal router timeout.....Comments?
MagicJack will not always ring. Sometimes goes to voicemail
