Post by sabresfan »

My mj just lost registration and I've checked with 3 different dumps and the password changes each time again.

Guess Dan and company were testing awhile ago and may have worked the bugs out. I'm glad I have a TK6000 and a sipsorcery account to use with Gizmo5 and GV to fall back on. Not that I would mind using the dongle again but once you experience a service with the clarity that MJ has using an ata( come on Dan wake up some of us would pay for a premium account) it's difficult to want to use it again and dealing with the mess that MJ creates on it's own.

Rotating passwords look like they are back, any hope to get ATA back running or should I just sign up for another service plan?

I've been running MJ through my router using MJMD5 for the last 18 months or so. Wouldn't register last Friday, I plugged in the dongle and checked tha password, it had changed although my userid stayed the same. I plugged that password in and all was good until today. I plugged in the dongle once again...4 times, and each time got a different password. Looks like we are hooped...I hope I am wrong because lord knows there are a lot of way smart people in here who will probably figure out a work around of something, at least that's what I am hoping!

I've had enough of MJ. I'm moving on. Two years of putting up with MJ is more than enough! You can go shove it, Dan!

Me too (password is rotating now and had enough of magic jack). MJ dongle = inaudible conversations. MJ + ATA = telephone quality. Can anyone recommend an alternative, I really like my ATA. Or should I go to OOMA? I renewed for $55 a year ago for 5 years, but oh well. A normal home phone plan costs $120+ a year, so it's not like I lost money.

Maybe this explains why my MJ quit sometime during the night and I cannot get it going again.

I just retrieved my password and it has changed since Friday. That is two changes in three days. I guess it is time to find another way to call 800 numbers.

The password I retrieved did not work, so I checked again. My password changed again.

So, yes, the password is changing with each login as far as I can tell. Unless it is changing more often than that?

Oh, well! Thanks for nothing, Dan.

Now I have a question for the brains of this outfit: What did you do the last time there was a rotating password? Is this game over? Or, is there someone who is going to figure out how to get the new password and use it for each call?

I have seen the TK6000. It looks like it would serve my purposes. The main reason for me to use the Magicjack was not to make calls, but rather to receive calls. I am in Europe and want my friends and family back in The U.S. to be able to call me without having to pay for long distance.

What are the advantages to sipsorcery and Gizmo5? I have GV, but that won't help me unless I have a U.S. number to forward to in Germany. Since I had MJ, there was no need to GV being used.

I am looking for a solution that will allow me to have a U.S. number in Germany without having to use a computer. I want to be able to plug my cordless phone base into a device and make/receive calls.

TK6000 seems very expensive at $100. Although, since there are no additional yearly fees like with MJ, it may be worth the price over the years. But, in order for this to be true, the company behind the device has to stay in business, otherwise it is just another doorstop.

Ideas, please? Thank you.

The Irony!

I cannot call tollfree 800 numbers from Germany. I had to use my Magicjack to call to order my TK6000/Duo. I used MJ in order to dump MJ. LMAO!

I set up MJ to forward to Sipgate for the time being (that way people can still call my main phone number). I then setup GV to link to Sipgate (this is for outbound calls). I then setup Sipsorcery to allow ATA to connect to Sipgate. Whenever Sipgate receives a call, it forwards to Sipsorcery which forwards to the ATA.

Incoming: MJ number -> Sipgate -> Sipsorcery -> ATA
Outgoing: number -> ATA -> Sipsorcery -> GV

For those wanting an alternative to using MJ with the dongle for now and don't have an sipsorcery account I would recommend sipgate as a paid alternative and whistlephone as a free alternative. For a longer term option I would recommend Nettalk their service is better than it was last year at this time and the Duo seems to be a good product.

I am going to go with the Duo. Seems to be the simplest option, although a lot more expensive than Magicjack.

Is there a fix for rotating passwords? Or, is this end game?

It's not too much more expensive, if you use their 25% off internet coupon: NTLK25OFF
Enjoys a daily VOIP cocktail made from:

-One shot Magic Jack
-One shot TK6000
-One shot NetTalk Duo
-Two shots Ooma (it's bigger)

Shaken, not stirred.

Thanks for the coupon, also may be a dumb question to ask but does NetTalk have similar quality to MagicJack + ATA, and does it have the ability to use its SIP info on an ATA? I understand I don't need to use my computer, but sometimes it is nice to have just one device running because my ATA has two lines and I would like it to use both.

has any one looked at pulling the sip credentials off a duo? Or are you all looking at just plugging it into the ata or a pc?

When will MJ just offer a open sip where they charge us additional 10 dollars a year. I would be willing to pay 40 a year total even for us and canada and not worry about constantly changing passwords and let us bring our own devices at our own risk.

The Duo's credentials are easily found by wireshark. Until they change method...
Android, rooted HTC Evo 4G (WiMax) by using CSipSimpleMJMD5 with
- MagicJack (2 #) - Whistlephone - NetTalk TK6000 (w. Fax) - GV (via sipgate, SMS) - Voxox - Jimblo - ActionVoip - CheapVoip ...
Why? - Just because I can... :D

Thank you for that! I am glad I had not ordered yet.

I just went to their website and there is no place for a coupon code. I called customer service and was told that if you don't go to their site via an email offer, you cannot get the discount.

Has anyone here tried to place an order using the discount code by going directly to the site?

Why would it be necessary to get credentials off of the Duo? Since it plugs directly into the router, it is essentially working the way my MJ did with the ATA. Only no extra device required.

No problem, just sharing the info.

I have no idea how long that code will continue to work.

This code only seems to work at www.nettalk.com, not any of their other sites.

Thanks for the 25% of coupon. I have been looking at the duo for while. I almost posted it last night. I have had my mj for 3 or 4 years I have used an ata pretty much the whole time, because the quality sucks through the dongle. I have always recommended mj to friends, but not any more. Will wait and see how well the duo I just ordered works.

I just looked at a wireshark dump...lots of data going back and forth. I'm guessing the password retrieval is part of the https traffic which will be much more difficult to debug.
