Actually Joe i get up to over 140 MBPS and that still don't cut it and some ppl think they have problems. I have to run the modem into a Hawkings HBB1 Broadband Booster then that into a Linksys WRT310N router and also the MJ is running off a powered USB box. The result is never ever a breakup in audio and no choppy audio what so ever. It can't be any better. P.S. i been talking to "The Wiz" as i visit other fourms and just read. Im going to take the plunge with Ooma Telco with the HD phone and the extra $ add ons as one more toy to play with. Oh before i forget my MJ is running on Vista 32 with a QOS registry hack and the QOS in router is left disabled. For those running Vista this may help you so here is the file link below.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/48s9lb3r2 ... _vista.rar

P.S. If you run a WRT310N Linksys Router there is a firmware upgrade that was just released last month. Its on there site for download.

Into making copies of any DVD's or Blu-Ray Dics, Well here is my newest release of DVDFab 8.0.2.8 with my Patcher that will register it for you

Things ppl do when they start to get old and nothing better to do. BTW this software developer is from China and what his program does is NOT legal in the U.S. so thats why i crack every version and release it to the public, The Link is below

Well we have talked on the phone once before and I remember you being surprised how good my MJ sounded as I am only getting 6 mps down( 5.05 to be exact) and 1 mp ( 7.6 to be exact) up on my dry loop DSL line. No where near your speed. Just lucky I guess. I wanted to try the Hawkings but I have a combo DSL mode/router and from what I understand it wont work with one unless I get a switch or get separate modem and router.
I would have thought you would have gone with the Net Talk Duo as opposed to Ooma... Ooma worries me, it is a good product but, without money coming in from existing products eventually they will run dry on capital. Have fun with your "toys" :)

Actually MJ requires very little maybe 100 kbps in the right enviroment. I always used Motorola Modems. However i am using a Netgear Modem with a netgear router built into it. I just got the router from my ISP yesterday. So i had like 6 hours of fun configuring hardware. The Netgear Modem i had to disable the internal router or else the linksys WRT310N would not work. So after i disabled the built in router from the Netgear modem then i hooked up the Linksys WRT310N router and then it worked. Then i noticed the old ladies laptop and the kids which are both dells with N wireless cards would only connect at B...It had me stumped. I got them connecting wireless at "N" by using Mixed Mode and WPA2 Security and some other BS. Then once all that was running i hooked the Hawkings between the moden and the router and all was fine as u can see. I notice when u deal with a modem with a built in router and if settings are just not right you are not going to logon as a admin thru internet explorer into the modem, Router or the Hawkings Broadband Booster. Once it was all ok each device of course had a different IP and logged onto each one no problem. The cable company was going to come over Tuesdday and drop off a Motorola as i requested but this damn cheap looking Netgear modem/Router combo with a little rubber duck does well that i am going to leave it. I do have it setup vertical with the stand they gave if you choose to leave it. The NT is nice and to close to a lil to the MJ but i think a better product. The Ooma i feel the audio quality is fantastic and its a little expensive but that ok. I might have old lady buy me the darn NY for Xmas. The Hawkings was last made i think in 2008 or before and it was hard for me to find a new one. I found a company in CA that had new ones for a price ( $40.00 ). It's worth every penny. Yes Joe i can't tell your on a magicjack it sounds great BUT it's not like this for everyone including me if i did'nt have all this other crap running with it. Now my friend back in NY is running wireless and borrowing internet VIA wifi for 2 years and best he gets is 2 MBPS download and 99.9% of the time it's fantastic. I think he's on Optima cable which i never heard of because i moved out of NY in 93. Im on what they call Brighthouse aka Roadrunner.
As far as Ooma is concerned i don't see the company hurting from what i see on there web site. Im not to sure but to me and i maybe wrong there are more Ooma customers then NT by what i see on each others web site.

I'm jealous I get 1.5mbps down and 256kbps up. The Hawkings hbb1 makes all the difference as my calls with MJ and other voip providers sound great. It just shows if you properly setup your system MJ and others can work.

Hawkings must of been crazy to discontinue the Hawkings HBB1 Broadband Booster. This hardware really works and there are 1000's of ppl or more that would agree. Mine is still new and there is IMHO a very big difference noticed like the breaking up goes away and the choppyness is gone etc, I don't know if ppl could find them anymore but then again i purchased this new when it was discontinued and there is always ebay

Speaking of the Hawkings Broadband Booster I just found this on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Hawking-Technolog ... B0009PLO0Q it's the best price I've ever seen for one $10+ cheaper than what I paid for mine.

Im sure the router part of that modem can be turned off but i gather you maybe using it for something else. If not you can always disable and go external router. Here in my part of florida not to far from DAN when you get 40 MBPS and above they only offer those combo modems aka Modem/Router

Dont have an extra wireless router to try plus I just read on DSL reports Frontier area, that somehow Frontier has disabled the bridging setting of the combo unit so one can no longer make it just a dsl modem. Which means I would have to buy the Hawkings and a switch or a new modem and router. Not doable right now for me...

Yeah Joe, It's strange how many ISP providers rule in one way or another!. Maybe give them a call and see if you can trade that modem/Router for just a router only. It could'nt hurt. But then again usually DSL providers send there equipment thru the mail and you just plug it into a dead phone jack.

I have a GREAT deal with my ISP. I went to dry loop ( naked DSL) and was able to keep my landline to receive calls, but not call out, for $29 a month PLUS I get a $5 loyality credit on top of that. Cant beat that for 6mps down and 1 mp up. PLUS my MJ works great with them...

I agree with you on that, But i tell you if you could use that HBB1 you'd hear differences you never did. I may get another just for the hell of it. You see since i moved from NY 17 years ago i have had Nextel ever since and so does my friends back on Long Island. You just can't beat that Nextel walkie talkie. Its loud and clear. So what we all did with Nexel was after our 2 years was up we stopped aka quit. But the phone you own or you can buy brand new ones of your flavor on ebay without a contract. Well Nextel and Boost Mobil are the same thing. So what we did was take boost mobil sim cards and put them in out Nextel phones and now we are unlimited for $50.00 a month without a contract. Actually i use a Nextel i580 with a Boost Sim card for a cell. You will only lose your phone number if you don't pay for two months in a row. I have mine off for the month of oct and maybe november.

Now I have to ask the question do you think MJ with magicfeatures and the HBB1 compete with Ooma? Ooma is a great device from a lot of reviews but can quickly turn into a $200 brick as I've seen from other reviews. I'm not gonna say using MJ with an ata because that may come to end. The HBB1 provides the QoS and Magicfeatures the additional features. One major benefit I have found with MJ (when I used the dongle) was having the ability to block the servers I did not want to use increasing the clarity of my calls. Any Ooma users please feel free to give your opinion as the more we can learn about different providers the better.

This can make a difference. I noticed a great improvement after I started using it. One thing to make sure is to have your MJ set up properly on your machine. Also using the great tips found here and in the mj wiki http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack let us know if you get one.

I sure will let you know when I get it. Here is what I have here right now that I am using. I have a Belkin N+ Wireless Router F5D8235-4 and a Terayon TJ715 modem. My ISP is Comcast Cable, my speedtest result is

Image

now this is a network, running at any given time 6 computers and the occasional Xbox 360 Live, depending if my kids are playing Halo or on the computers playing World of Warcraft. They are both on right now playing Warcraft. I just took that speedtest about 10 minutes ago.

so if you guys have any suggestions what I can do to speed up my little home network here, trust me, it would be greatly appreciated! I just got done listening to my son saying he is in there lagging.....

The Hawkings HBB1 makes a difference. I seen it take MJ's with broken up audio to choppy audio and made the MJ into a device 99.9% equal to a real home phone. Im also a MagicFeatures user

Yes, I know, I have spoken to you before on here. It would be great to have you guys help me get my little home network running faster and better! and my kids would appreciate that too!!! and yes, it would be very nice to have my MJ work 99.9% equal to a landline. so you think this broadband booster will really make the difference? I posted above what I am running here on my home network.

I agree with the the HBB1 and the QOS thats making the difference in the operation of the MJ. I do have the QOS disabled in my Linksys WRT310N router and let the HBB1 take care of that. Actually when on a call the HBB1's Blue Light stays solid and i don't breakup, chop, fart or anything period. Plus im running a powered USB Hub and my MJ is 3 feet under my computer on another shelf. I must agree the Ooma gets at min a 4.6 review out of 5 by thousands of ppl. But what i have read is there phones suck so i would use my own cordless. The answer to the $200.00 brick is what?...You think the company is going to go belly up?. I don't need any other service really but as a hobby i bet i buy a Ooma within the next week and the Net Talk Duo i'll have the old lady get me that for Xmas. But when you read on the Ooma site there really is'nt that much bad to read about the Ooma except there HiDef phone sucks and its only Hi Def to Ooma to Ooma anyway. Yeah it costs more then others etc but it won't put anyone in the poor house. Out of the 3 devices the MJ i think is the weakest constructed device out of the 3 but if you put your time into the MJ it can work great but what the heck it's only a hobby so i will purchase the other two also unless MJ comes out with some NEW ass kicking device thats built as well as the Ooma. IMO i think the Ooma hands down is better constructed and built then the other 2 units.

well all I have right now is 2 MJ's so thats what I have to work with. I considered the NT, only because MJ is now into blocking #'s and I was concerned about that, but for now, I guess its just Magicjack. So if I can manage to get them running as you put it 99.9% equal to a landline, I think I will be quite content with that for right now.

I seen your speedtest.net it is 100% perfect. However you can have double that and sound like crap. Again i don't mess with MJ and 64 bit OS period. For me the MJ plus a powered USB Hub and a HBB1 and a router and a QOS Vista registry Mod and my ISP provide me with a smoking phone call. Even though i sound very good the only other thing that bothers me is having the puter on all the time to use it. Yes i am aware of ATA etc but that does'nt interest me. The MJ with Magicfeatures software and the way i have it set up does everything i need to do except fax. I'll be a MJ user until the company closes shop to say. Even with all i run here the HBB1 is a big factor for many when it comes to quality send and receive and some use just the MJ and thats it and all is well but for most of it it does'nt work that way. Mine is as close to a landline can get and it was that way with a 3rd Gen MJ too even though im using a 4th Gen now. I even built a audio amp for the MJ two years ago and when on a phone call if i turn it on it is 3x louder then a Nextel Walkie Talkie turned up. With the MJ you can get away with that but if you boosted the out going audio on a real landline the FCC would have a fit and on the other hand if you boosted the receive on a real landline the FCC could careless as those commerical devices are used for the hard of hearing. Now as far as your # blocking i have not had any trouble with any of that but my friend in NY can not call his friend in N. Dakota on his landline but can on his cell phone and i tried and get same thing. My answer to that is N. Dakota is dead as a door nail area of the U.S.

well I am not interested in the ATA either. I leave 3 out of the 6 computers on here 24/7 anyway, so that doesn't really bother me. I am still using the 3rd gen mj and you and I have talked about that on here, in another thread. I did do that thing on Vista 32bit with the Qos that you suggested on here. so all in all, it sounds like I "could" get the same sort of quality that you speak of, if I manage to add this Hawking hbb1 into the equation. right? The other mj I have is running on a 64bit system running win7. the one I use most of the time for all my calls is mainly the one on the Vista 32bit machine, that is the 3rd gen. I have run across some of the #'s I tried using being blocked by mj. (and that was discussed on another thread here). http://phoneservicesupport.com/mj-takes ... t9901.html
but that is another issue. I tried to use a GV # as a work around just incase mj decided to start blocking numbers that I normally call. I was just trying to have a back up plan in place, just in case I was one of the next ones to get screwed on having my number blocked. I am not running my mj thru a usb powered hub though, its plugged into one of the back usb ports on my tower. why do you say you have yours sitting 3ft under your tower on a shelf? does that do anything? I remember talking to you about the 4th gen dongles before, but I have not been "Lucky Enough" to find one where I live yet. :( I am able to fax with my 3rd gen connected to that vista machine though, so I guess I am Lucky there. so if you have any other suggestions, please suggest away....

I never tried to fax with the MJ, I'll use another device for that. The reason the MJ is 3 feet under the computer on another shelf is because i don't want it hanging out of the computers USB Port. Actually the computer is on top of desk and MJ is on the bottom shelf which is the 3rd shelf. On the 3rd shelf is a 8 port self powered USB Hub at 5 volts running at 2 amps ( A device or circuit will only draw as much current as it needs ) and 2 amps is a over kill but i had the supply hanging around. The computer is a Dell laptop running dual core 2.4ghz processors with Vista 32 bit. The laptop is a desktop replacement meaning it never gets used as a normal laptop as im using a regular keyboard and mouse thru the USB ports on the Laptop. The powered USB provides the MJ with the correct voltage and current. When using multi USB devices at the same time it can result in a voltage drop which would effect the MJ performance even if the laptop was plugged in and never ran off the battery alone. The MJ can take more then 5 volts without blowing it up however it can decrease life by doing that but on the other hand increasing the voltage to it in a very small margin can do wonders too and not effect the device as electronic componets all have tolerances "aka" 5- 5.6v DC Max. Most ppl...99.9% could not tell you what there voltage is at there usb port. There answer will be 5V when it can actually be 4.8v etc, In electronics we call this condition a voltage drop. It like plugging in to many electronics into a single outlet it will drop the voltage and the current or burn your house down

so along with the Hawkings hbb1 I should invest in a powered usb hub. any suggestions which one of those to look for?

Yeah MJ recommends the use of this powered USB Hub

http://www.windmilltrading.com/USBProds ... 4U2ABK.htm

P.S., Mine blew up after a yr, I use now a 8 port Kensington with my own DC power supply. If you search i seen the above powered hub for $7.95 but don't remember where.

Now that my ata took a dump tonight with MJ I pulled out my powered hub (picked up at walmart for $15 awhile ago) and have MJ running again with Magicfeatures. So far the test calls have been fine and I'm playing around with the other plugins. I have it setup with the whole house wiring right now and all the phones ring and sound clear. I may pickup a thin client in the future but for now I'm gonna hold out and see if ata's can get back up.

lets talk about this whole house wiring for a minute. how exactly did you do that? I read about that a while ago, but can't remember where I read that, so I am not sure on the procedure.

Simple, instead of hooking up a phone to your MJ you just run a phone cable from it to your wall jack. FIRST be sure to disconnect your incoming phone service from your outside distribution box.
You may also need a powered USB hub for your MJ now in order to have enough power to ring all your house phones.
Just seems easier these days to get a multi handset cordless phone instead.

I thought I remembered it being fairly simple but was not sure of the steps to take.

I agree it is easier to get a multi handset cordless phone system. I just happened to already have this setup from long before and it was quick to get everything up and running. On a side not MJ with the dongle has improved since the last time I've used it this way. I just finished blocking all the servers I don't want to use now and so far the call quality has been good.

The real ticket here is the fact that the hub mentioned above has a 2000mA power supply which can provide the specified full 500mA to each port. Most cheap hubs do not have supplies this large.

I was looking for a 7 port hub which could supply the same 500mA per port or 3500mA and only found one which was very expensive. I did however find that Dlink makes 7 port USB hub which comes with a 3000mA and that manfacturer refirbished ones can be found on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:IT I have no connection to the seller BTW. Some of the 4 port hubs will run you this much although there are some cheaper ones on eBay.

If some one does not want to do the EBay thing, there is always Tiger Direct for a few bucks more. Tiger is a solid on-line supplier of computers and gear at decent prices.

And yes, home cable tops out around 30 Mb here too.

By the end of the year, my HOA is dropping Comcast, and going with a new company. They are installing a fiber optic system with a max of about 30 subscribers on one node, as opposed to Comcast's 200 homes per copper node. That was the main selling point, whatever it's worth. They are promising 10mbps down and 2mbps up for just the basic service. The cost is $15 a month for the internet. Not sure how dealing with a new company will work, but it HAS to improve my MJ connection. Right?

Well, you cannot go wrong for this price and your quality may improve indeed.
I am puzzled where you guys here get those feel good test with all those science fiction results. Why do not you run some Visualware tests, especially in moments you have problems with MJ , and you will get much more realistic picture about your ISP service . Not only about the speed, but also many other equally important test results and their interpretation.
One thing is sure, a(ny) VOIP can be only as good as your internet connection.

Haven't done it, myself.
Enjoys a daily VOIP cocktail made from:

-One shot Magic Jack
-One shot TK6000
-One shot NetTalk Duo
-Two shots Ooma (it's bigger)
