MJ in SE Asia - Vietnam

Post by dbean »

Reside in US, heading to Vietnam in a few weeks for vacation; wondering if MagicJack will work?

Is it worth hassle of bringing laptop/phone?
If so, will I have to buy some type of 'international plan' ?

If VOIP is not blocked there you should be fine.
My buddy went to Switzerland last yr with his laptop, MJ and a headset. Worked great me calling him and him calling me.
Of course your mileage may vary.

OK; so no special 'international plan' is necessary to purchase b4 we leave?

Correct. I "assume" you have a USA #? If that is the case anyone in the states just needs to call your USA MJ# and your phone will ring wherever you are. OF COURSE you need a good internet connection. Hardwired is the best as a wireless signal can be overloaded and not have a good signal..
Have a safe trip

Cool; thanks for the info.

How about outgoing calls from vietnam? Do I dial as if I'm in US, or vietnam (US country code + area code + number)?

You dial as you usually do with your MJ.. As if you were calling your neighbor next door. In other words as if you were in the USA..

AGAIN the trick is getting a GOOD internet connection...

bitstopjoe already answered all your questions.
I just want to confirm that it works in VN. I left 2 over there for relatives so that they can call me any time they want.
