Sound quality

HI, I recently got MJ and have been using it with Win7. Overall - it is OK, but there is one problem. I usually have long calls, and people I talk to complain that my voice is not consistent: volume and quality drifting in and out... It is good for a min or two and then it sounds like as if I am talking from the fridge, and in 10-15 seconds its back to normal...
I also sometimes hear clicks and sometimes the incoming sound drops, so I miss a word or two from a phrase...

I wonder if anyone has/had this problem and if so - what is the remedy?

I am at residential Comcast cable connection, Widows 7 Ultimate, wired, no other significant loads running in the home network....

Try looking here http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack/ ... Q#Problems it gives some great advice on getting MJ sounding it's best. Also don't use the cheap usb extension cable that comes with your MJ and use a usb port on the back of your computer (credits to bitstopjoe).

i have a top of the line computer and for some reason the voice quality sometimes was scratchy and etc. and sometimes burning up my resources, later down the road i bought a pci muliple usb "not for magicjack"..fit that into the pc and bam never had a problem since

IOW, another vote for a POWERED USB connection, be it an internal card or external POWERED USB hub

hell yea! well for me that was my problem, the call quality on mine was horrible especially on the other end..i thought well you get what you pay for since magicjack is cheap and just dealt with it. One day i decided to buy a pci usb card since i have so much stuff plugged into the damn thing and it will relieve a lot of problems. I installed the pci usb card into the pc and hooked all the hardware including magic jack and thats when the sound quality shot through the roof. I have never had a problem since no dropped calls, no more sound problems, and etc, it was super clear and never ONCE did it give me a problem, i couldn't believe it. I'm sure there is other problems that can cause sound problems like a bad internet connection or something but mine was definitely the usb port.

added: I came to this site looking for a solution and when i saw other people talk about usb this and that i shrugged it off because i just bought this up to date expensive super duper computer. The magicjack was plugged not into the optional usb parts of the computer but in the back where the usb is directly connected to the motherboard so i thought there is no way it could be that. Sure enough i was wrong.....

similar success; installed pci usb expansion card, then plugged mj dongle into that, call quality is almost the same as when I was using the ATA!!!

It's not as fun as messing with the ATA, but @least mj is usable again!

I would not recommend this USB hub. I'd purchased two that look just like this from some other site, and both worked for a few days, but then started having "issues".

I ended up dumping them and purchased some that were only a bit more money, but had a 3-year warranty, etc. I think I paid $10 or $15 shipped. So I'd keep looking!

After looking into several powered usb hubs, including the one recommended here, I realized that just about any hub can only deliver 500ma to each port on the hub, so it doesn't matter if the hub is 2000ma.

Just hooked my mj upto an inland 7 port router that delivers 500ma to each port and its already working better. I think the trick will be not to hook anything else up to this hub, so my MJ gets all the amps it can.

Also took the advice of the wiki and set the priority for MJ as high on the task manager > processes.
