2wire 2701HG-B router - MJ drops incoming after 30 seconds
Magicjack drops incoming calls after 30 seconds and dialing pad displays error 3 ACK PENDING. MJ support said create Magicjack exception, defeating SIP ALG. ATT, that gave me the DSP/Router box, said it can't be done after I paid them for their trouble. Must I just suck it up and get new DSP box and a router that allows this change? I sure would appreciate the help from someone.

i cant find a solution for this, have you found any way to get this to work. I have had magic jack and uverse for about 3 months now together and it just started doing this. It will work if i put my PC in dmzplus mode but then none of the other devices on my network like my xbox cannot see my PC, if you know any solution please reply.
Guys - Only $20 on Ebay gets you a router that lets you control your SIP ALG. Thats half of a standard monthly phone bill.

Calls disconnected in 32 seconds - Nettalk Duo to Magicjack
I'm having a similar problem which I may post separately, but it seems related to the problems being discussed here, so I'll give it a shot, hoping someone can direct me to a solution.
I have a Nettalk Duo device which I have had for about 1 week. My neighbor has a Magicjack which he has had for about 1 month. Both seem to work fine when calling or receiving calls to or from regular plain old telephone service landlines. However, when I call him via my Nettalk Duo connected phone the call dies after 32 seconds every time. Understand, this only happens when I call him. He can call my Nettalk Duo phone via his Magicjack and we can talk for over the 32 seconds. I have no trouble calling other people and talking for many minutes. We both have the AT&T provided 2wire combo wireless router/DSL modems.
Any ideas for why this is happening (and only when I call his Magicjack phone from my Nettalk Duo connected phone)?

@Moonwatcher - The 33 second problem is only for calls inbound to MagicJack, not outgoing. Maybe their techs will realize what a mistake they made with the last "Lucky" downgrade and correct it on the next one. (shaking head sadly)

Thanks for the quick reply. So you think a software upgrade is causing this problem? My neighbor, who has the MJ, did recently do a software upgrade.
The crazy thing is that when his daughter or I call him from a plain old telephone line service (Bellsouth), it doesn't drop the call. It only happens when I call him via my Nettalk Duo connected phone. Strange. I was accusing MJ of blocking calls from their competitor connected phones, but maybe it is just a strange problem with routers?

For those experiencing the 30 second incoming call drop due to SIP ALG issues, there is a detailed explanation (although a bit technical) here -

Verizon does have instructs on disabling SIP ALG on 2wire units here and here -

but I'm not sure on the model numbers you are using and not all 2wire units allow SIP ALG to be disabled.

But I am somewhat confused....should I do this on my friend's gateway (the one with the Magicjack) or apply it to mine (I have the Nettalk Duo) or even apply to both just for the heck of it?

On your friend's gateway as it is the incoming call that his MJ has to acknowledge. Hope it works out for you. When MJ/Duo works, they are great. When they don't (especially after working well in the past) they are extremely frustrating.moonwatcher wrote:

32 second dropped calls when calling MJ phone via Nettalk
Ah, rats! I checked the SIP ALG setting on the AT&T 2WIRE 2701HG-B of my neighbor's (who has the MagicJack) and SIP ALG was already turned OFF (the checkbox is unchecked by default). So, anyway, at least THAT isn't the issue here. But my calls to him (and him only) from my Nettalk Duo get cutoff at exactly 32 seconds every time. I do not know any other MJ customers to try calling to see if the problem is generic via Nettalk or is limited to him.
He is also frustrated because while he can make calls that seem to work OK, many times people calling him get an "all circuits busy" message, or the caller can hear him, but he can't hear the caller. (This was noticed mainly for cell phone callers to him.)
It is getting to the point that my friend is considering going back to AT&T and coughing up the $30/month real world number for Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), which is their $19.95 plus all the taxes and taxes masquerading as fees. Or I might convince him to try Nettalk Duo for 30 days (if they can be trusted to keep their "try it for free" offer.
I also made sure that all his USB Hubs were set under the "Power Managment" tab so the computer could not turn them off to save power. I had read in another message thread to try that as well. But still no joy.
Is there a possibility that a MJ software update is causing some of these problems? I'm not familiar with how the MJ updates work. Are they automatic, or does the user have to initiate them? How do you look and see what software version you already have? (No use attempting an upgrade to the same software version).
Also, my friend swears he was at one time able to call his MJ phone number from his Google Voice Gmail account, but this apparently no longer works. On the gmail end, it just rings and rings, but the MJ phone or softphone show nothing. Strange....I just now called my Nettalk number via my gmail account, using some Logitech USB headphones and it worked fine.
Finally, I saw a link for a program to uninstall MJ, as it was suggested to completely uninstall it, then reinstall it. If I do that, how will my friend's MJ "know" that he already has a number assigned to him? Will there be some way during the installation process to log in as an existing user so it will associate his account with the new installation?
It does seem like these VOIP companies just have too many variables beyond their control (Internet infrastructure, all the various routers and their settings, or inability to make certain settings, etc.) and perhaps are not ready for prime time. So far I've not experienced any problems with my Nettalk Duo, but I've only had it a couple weeks, so we'll see.
