MJ for Direct tv account in Canada
Yes I have my own account with DTV, I can do MOST things through dtv.com, except moving etc.
Any rate, I bought a MJ for the sole purpose of being able to phone the dtv 800 number from Canada.
I only have dial up available at my location. Just wondered if anybody knows if the Rogers Rocket stick will operate MJ, and exactly all I would need to DO IT.
You see I want to move from one state to a Can/US border state to receive locals, they will not do it for me by email
Any other tricks to dial the 800 number outside of the calling area?

Here's a FAQ from MJ's knowledgebase:
Q. Will magicJack work with Dial-up Internet service?
A. NO.
Dial-up Internet service does not provide enough bandwidth or speed for magicJack.
A minimum bandwidth UPLOAD speed of 128 kb/s (or kbit/s or kbps) is required.
You may test your bandwidth speed at http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
NOTE: magicJack-to-magicJack calls may work using dial-up Internet service

Rogers Rocket stick is not dial up. I have already read some reports that the Rogers Rocket stick works, but need more confirmation before buying one

I am inferring this is some sort of wireless broadband running on cellular network.directvcanada wrote:Thanks but I knew that dial up does not work with MJ, I asked .....KMNugent52 wrote:Here's a FAQ from MJ's knowledgebase:

Typically these networks are plagued by significant packet loss, high ping times and significant jitter.
Really never know until you try it. Don't be surprised if you're not satisfied with the voice quality, not a MJ issue in this case
Let us know how it goes.

I am wondering if there was anything else I would need? Perhaps a router? Do not know anything about routers other than the one in my garage that I use for wood working.
I asked the Roger`s guy on telephone he did not know if it would work or not, but he told me in my area I would get good coverage atleast equal to 256 K bandwidth.
If I was able to call the 800 number that I mentioned, would be ok. Some of the googling I have done suggests it will work? Router is maybe the question?
A while back I tried Magicjack on my Netbook tethered to my Rogers iPhone with Data Plan which should be the same as the rocket stick. It worked but the sound was cutting in and out. Not good enough quality to make the call to DTV in my opinion. I assume that you know that you can not get the locals unless you actually live close to the area that the locals are for. Like you can get Seattle locals in Vancouver but not in Calgary etc.
Why don't you just take the MagicJack to somewhere that high speed is available to make your call?
You could also get a google voice account, verify your US magicjack number and forward the magicjack to your cdn number then make the call through google voice. (call will ring back to your cdn number then call DTV and connect) If you don't know how to do this then just google "google voice in Canada".
