HP t5520 - Can the ram be upgraded?

Post by limitme »

In alpman's post, he says the ram in the 5520 cannot be upgraded

http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/magi ... html#55012

Can anyone confirm this? It only came with 128 MB of ram, and I need to buy a 512 or 1 GB stick for it.

" and 128MB RAM (not upgradable on the t5520)"

I'm hoping there is a work around this and I can upgrade the ram.

On a T5520, the RAM is soldered to the motherboard.

on the case it says t5000, but there is a white sticker that says t5520....

I guess I'll open it and find out....
so if it is a t5520, I have to buy a new thin client if I want to run magicjack?

HP shows all t5000 series use SODIMM (upgradeable) memory, but if Stevereno has first hand knowledge I defer to him. In turn the factory OS for the t5520 is WindowsCE which will not support MagicJack.

it has windows xp on it...and a 6 GB microdrive....

but i just opened it up....I could not find a ram slot anywhere....
so I guess I'm stuck with a very large alpman paperweight.

if I do buy another thin client, what do you suggest?

I use a t5710 with 512 MB RAM and a 1 GB FLASH. But, it is an 800 MHz Crusoe processor so it is a bit short on processor power since the processor is not native X86 instruction set. SOmething like this t5720 on Ebay with 512/2GB I would think would work perfect.

(I don't know if the Geode processor is native or interpreted X86 but it should still be fine.)

thanks for the link.
Can the RAM be upgraded to 1 GB?
I'm nervous...now that magicjack upped the requirements to 512, I want to make sure I have something i can upgrade this time.

Yes I believe so but the reason for the current 512 MB recommendation from MagicJack is that they just barely exceeded 256MBs and the next memory size is 512 MB.

Some day you can go to 1 GB but I doubt if it will ever be because of MagicJack.
