Static noise for caller
For anyone who calls my magicjack number, there is static on the line, you can still here the voice but there is a crackling noise. The sound quality is great on the mj side, but the caller to the magicjack, or call receiver from the magicjack hears static. This even happens if the magic jack is unplugged and you're calling the number and leaving a voicemail.
I tried the mj support, but they had me do the same things on my computer 3 times so I gave up. I can't see how this has anything to do with my computer, network or software, when you get the same result even if it goes straight to voicemail with my computer and modem switched off and mj unplugged.

A minimum bandwidth UPLOAD speed of 128 kb/s is required.
You may test your bandwidth speed at http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
Also check your MJ softphone, Menu, Volume/headset, check your settings. Check the sliders on the Telephone side.
Test your speeds, have your ISP check your connection just to make sure all is good.
I personaly think it's your ISP, cause you get this when a call goes to VM.
I'll try the speed test when I get home. I'm sure its fast enough though. I have verizon fios and don't have any problems with speed. I've already tried all the other settings.
So are you telling me even when the mj is unplugged and the call goes straight to voicemail, the call is still going through my network?
The noise happens all the time, not just on voicemail, and only for the person on the other end, not the phone on the mj side.

Static Problem
I have the same problem, I forward the call, static is so bad i pretty much have to call everyone back on my cell. It is horrendous!
Set your calls to forward to another non MJ number and see what happens. I know the problem is not on my end, as it does it with MJ off/unplugged and calls going to VM or forwarded.
Calls to my MJ with no forwarding seem good on my end
It does it on all my MJ's I am ready to give up. Tech support is a joke, and that is being polite.
I am ready to port over the number i need to keep to Ooma, and try a NetTalk Duo out for my other lines.

No, sounds to me that it's a problem on MJ side, or something on your ISP.
I don't know enough about this, if someone calls you and your MJ is off does it still try to ring or goes right to VM. Might try MJ (chat support) have them reset your connection.
Every MJ I have is static on call forwarding. The call forwarding would be done at their Switching/server, etc. Leaving out my router/computer/fios etc.mike21582 wrote:It goes straight to voicemail, it doesn't try to ring.
How could it be even something with my isp? I have a hard time believing I wouldn't have the same problem if I had a laptop with mj on it and connected to the internet somewhere else.
If you think Tech Chat will help... your in for a big surprise
The Number i have the worst problem on is a business number. I have been using it for going on 2 years, 99% of the time its forwarded to my cell. I just put in a request to port to Ooma and bought the premire service for the forwarding feature. Like the Multi Ring where the phone can ring in the store and also my cell.
I am going to order a Duo to try out. I am guessing they are not available in stores?
I have been a big MJ supporter up till now. I own 7 MJ's, 2 Ooma's etc. At least Duo have live tech support thats worth the extra 10.00 a year for sure. Plus, not needing a computer is a huge plus.
Bob .
static
Static Problem i and having, forgot to mention, is there if i turn OFF call forwarding and it goes straight to voice mail.
If i answer a call, it is clean on my side, Static for the caller.
The only time i tested a clean call was MJ number to MJ number.
I know this is a problem on MJ side. Tech Support will give you all their Canned responses that wont fix anything

I looked online at walmart and best buy for the nettalk duo and walmart sells it online, but neither sold in stores. I also looked at radio shack, and didn't find it, so I just ordered it from the nettalk website. They have free shipping until valentine's day and 5$ for 2 day shipping.BobK wrote:

I was a big supporter of mj also up until this issue. Its too bad they use kindergartners for their tech support. If they didn't I might give them a chance. But I am looking forward to the duo that plugs right into the router/modem. MJ is supposed to have that in March, but who knows if it'll really happen in then. They've been saying porting coming soon for at least a year.
Even if MJ has a new service that plugs directly into the router, you still have the issue of dealing with MJ terrible Support. If Duo is 10.00 more a year and have live support, it would be well worth it.mike21582 wrote:I looked online at walmart and best buy for the nettalk duo and walmart sells it online, but neither sold in stores. I have talked to 17 people and have 10 hrs plus with Tech Support on MJ,
I can say, they are useless. Supposedly I was escalated to the engineers to solve this problem. A week has passed, customers call and hang up.
Hopefully Ooma will port faster than the 3 weeks they say it can take.

For others, WalMart has free ship-to-store on all on-line purchases. If it was me, I would order it from them on-line. If you don't like it, you can get your money back quick. There have been reports that NetTalk is not fast with their return/exchanges.mike21582 wrote: walmart sells it online, but neither sold in stores. I can't say I blame you. Just check and make sure your router is compatible with Nettalk before using their service. Some routers have problems and it makes Nettalk a pain to use.mike21582 wrote:Its fixed for me too, if they'd have admitted it could be a problem on their end, I might have given them a chance. No my subscription is expiring and I'm going with Nettalk.
