My voice mail was down a couple of times and my contacts got deleted- not too bad for 21/4 years of service. Yes, there have been some other issues, but they have all to do with my great DSL provider AT @ Tea, as tests show.
My savings are now in 4 digits.
Does anyone know if there will be any discounts for current MJ users?
It would be nice if they provided a trade-up program! That option may be the final nail in the coffin for me with MJ. I made the mistake of renewing my account just one week before the rotating sip passwords. Phone hasn't been the same since leaving the ATA.
If they offer me some sort of upgrade deal, (like discount on MJP, free year of service, free number port, etc.) I'd stay. If they toss me to the curb, NetTalk will get my business.

I hate to be the ass in here, but you have GOT to be kidding. You think they are a car dealer and you're trading in your 1994 Buick for a 2011 Caddy?
$20 for the device and $20 for a year of service. If they offer you an upgrade/discount I will personally double the value of it. And I suppose it was their fault that you were using the device in a way that was against the TOS with the ATA?
My original Mj is still going strong and up for my third renewal in April. I am hoping the pluse come out before I have to renew. I use mine with google voice and that is the phone number I give everyone so I don't have to worry about porting my old number. I like other have saved a bunch of money with MJ and If I had to buy a new one each year. It's still a bargin over the old phone company. I Love my MJ
MattressTester wrote:If in fact magicJack comes out with their own version of the netTalk Duo, it will be too little - too late for the countless thousands of customers like me who found the MJ product and MJ customer service to be a bad joke and switched to netTalk. Simply, the netTalk device just plain works. Simply, if you ever have the occasion to deal with netTalk customer service, you can talk on the phone with a courteous and well trained individual.
MJ is primarily concerned with funding infomercials and getting 200,000 new customers to sign up each month. netTalk is focused on providing a quality product and taking care of their customers.
When netTalk was gaining on MJ, Dan called it a POS. Clearly he knew then the netTalk was a better product as MJ is now trying to clone that POS. And if my experience is any indicator, the MJ clone will be a POS compared to the Duo.
Sorry if I have offended the MJ fans out there. I'm a retired geek who spent months trying every conceivable solution to get my MJ to work reliably. I finally gave up, went with the Duo, had it up and running in minutes and not so much as a hiccup in four months (Linksys WRT54GL router).
....I'm a retired non-geek, and have only had to do some minor tweaking to keep my MJ running great for more than a year. And most of that was getting it to do things it was never intended and/or advertised for, like ringing on all my phones. So I'm not sure how a self-professed "geek" can't get the damn thing to work. Maybe bitstopjoe and I should write a "MagicJack for Dummies" book.
....
Too late gunner! Good idea but jeepsterguy has already beat ya to the dummies guide....back in November of '08.
It was this post that taught me how to get my t5710 up and running. THIS dummy is muy grateful too. Count me as another happy MJ user. I'm approaching the 4 digit savings mark myself....and only after one year of use.
VoIP life is goooooooooood.

Dammit all. And to think the $2.38 I spent on research and development is down the drain. BTW, my R&D department has been fired, seeing as how they failed to let me know of the previous guide. I think they were trying to milk it for all they could before I found out. I knew better than to hire Clinton and Gore. But noooo, I HAD to listen to Carter.

Like you I have no real issues with my MJ. And I saved 1200 the first year I used MJ.
I have had it now for about 1.5 years which puts me at about 1800.00 saved and I have 4.5 left on my reup.
Sadly MJ does not work for everyone. And this could be for any number of reasons.
Bogged down PC, Software conflicts, hardware/Driver conflicts, poor internet speeds and on.
I am interested in the NetTalk Duo though. Always looking at ways to save money or help others save money.
Can these be purchased at Walmart. I found one on Amazon for 99.98. ha like thats gonna happen.
If it is basically the same thing as MJ but works better and has better customer service, it sounds like it would be worth the extra price. In the end it is still cheaper than MaBell.

Oh well, your $2.38 R&D funds weren't totally wasted. At least you got the Global Warming theory out of it.
WAIT.........never mind. It WAS wasted.
What the hell was I thinkin'?

The good part, is being able to return it to a store, if you don't like it.
Whiz, do you have the duo? If so, what is your opinion of it?

Hate to continue being off topic in this thread...
Bottom line, is that I continue like my MJ, but I love the Duo. NT still has their shortcomings, but over all it works well. Please PM me for any other details, or you can always check out their forum. www.nettalk.com/forum

Enjoys a daily VOIP cocktail made from:
-One shot Magic Jack
-One shot TK6000
-One shot NetTalk Duo
-Two shots Ooma (it's bigger)
So next week is the beginning of March.. it will be interesting to see if we hear anything more about MJ Plus in the coming weeks or if it will just die out like some of the other MJ announcements.
I guess the lack of any additional info or even a preview of the product this close to the announced date doesn't bode well.

I have magicJack and the DUO and just signed up for VOiPmyway.
I have to throw out a HUGE shout out to the voipmyway service. I signed up for the $30 engagement special and this service is unbelievable. They offer tons of options and the call quality is perfect.
The only downsize, there is a 1500 minute monthly limit, but man the call quality is unbelievable. I have a Linksys PAP2T-NA and they offer a free provisioning link ..... reminds me of the Staples "Easy" button.
Anyway, I signed up for $30 for the first year AND they offer number porting for an extra $8!!!
When I first suggested to him to do this I told him that he should do a stand alone system not connect to anyone else's sytem. That way he controls the quality of his service. This man has a good head on his shoulders and actually listens to people's suggestions. He runs his own digital network on his own equipment made the way he wants and with the quality he wants.
Personally I can not wait to see which way he goes. I know it will be great for us.... not so great for the big companies who have been ripping us off for years. 3's
Grampa
PS I think there is something else in the wind for us.
A very significant down side. But there are more down sides. One of them would be their international rates. They are pretty misleading selling you 25 $ blocks from which the first $ 5.- is a "service fee". So what you have to do is to ad 20 % to all their relatively high rates and once you do that they make absolutely no sense ( not even mentioned that I would never buy huge prepaid blocks ). Thumb down on this one.
Hi, I'm new to the forum and MJ. I'm dropping my Verizon DSL/Land line subscription and subscribing to Comcast Internet service and was going to buy MJ. After reading this forum it appears I need to look into NetTalk and MJ Plus.
What is MJ Plus is it better then Nettalk?
Thanks

Never heard of Google huh?? I am pretty sure searching for NetTalk and Magic Jack Plus might give you some info.. Just say`n
Does Magicjack Plus fix the DTMF random "beep" problem? This problem plagues both Magicjack and Nettalk users now. I hear it on every phone call with my Magicjack. If it does fix it, I'd be very interested.

All things are possible in the land of OZ. However, I'm not sure there is any way to actually answer your question until they make it available to those of us outside of OZ.
