MJrecover question

Post by JimL »

MagicJack is sort of running. By that I mean that I can talk to some numbers but others disconnect after 41 seconds. This has been happening in the last few months. It makes no difference whether it's local or long distance. Before that it worked fine for better than 2 years.

Because of the disconnects I ran MJrecover_setup.exe. I got a pop-up saying, "NO DEVICE FOUND!!"

Might this have something to do with the disconnects?

What else appears to be the problem. Why would the program see no device when one is right there calling numbers it seems to approve of?

I don't know how the programmers got it to be capricious, but it's impressive in its own right.
Thanks a million

Try uninstalling the software. Directions can be found here:

http://www.magicjack.com/6/faq/

Magicjack also has a removal program that can be downloaded here:

http://upgrades.talk4free.com/tools/mjRemover.exe

Either way, when you plug the MJ back in, the software will automatically reload.

Worth a try.

You might also try not using the short cord that came with it, if you still are, and make sure it's in a rear usb port, if it's not.

Thanks. I got it uninstalled fine. Plugging the MJ in does not install it again. See next reply.

Thanks.

I've tried getting it to reinstall using every connection I can think of. With the 3 inch cord, without it. Direct into the computer. Plugged into a powered hub.

Given this and the previous error saying, "No Device Found!!" I'm wondering if the hardware has gone bad.

Is there a way other than plugging it in to install the software?
Thanks a million

I suppose intermittent cutting off of calls could be a sign of the device going bad, but i don't recall any other posts regarding that.

The fact that it isn't reinstalling the software does make it sound like the device may be dead. Another frequent suggestion is to try it on another computer or a family/friends computer to make sure it's not something else.

Short of someone sending you their file, I don't think there is another way of installing the software. But if the device isn't installing it on it's own, I'm skeptical that it will run correctly just by adding the file. I don't think MJ does a good job of deleting registry files when you un-install it, so it's possible it might work. Others should know more about that.

Minutes ago I stumbled across the upgrade download. I grabbed it and ran it. Low and behold, when I plugged in the MJ again it started everything up. Now if I'm _R_E_A_L_L_Y_ lucky my disconnects will stop..................................
Thanks a million

I wasn't really lucky. I was actually surprised when I went to MJ and looked at my logs. There are more drops listed than completed calls. And apparently nothing has changed that.

Should I start a new thread on the subject of dropped connections?
Thanks a million

Have the same problem. The same MJ works fine on a laptop running XP but will not install on my machine running Vista.
When I plug it in nothing happens. The software does not install.
What I did was go to My Computer and I noticed the F drive showed MJ. Clicked on that it opens up and there were some icons for MJ. I forget which one but clicking on one of them I think the one .exe or upgrade.exe and that loaded the software. After that I had to put MJ in the startup folder and loads itself at bootup. Awkward fix but that worked for me.
It use to work fine. I had it running as a service and then some update with MJ or Windows Vista killed it.

Good luck

I got it up and going by running the updater first. Apparently uninstalling MJ did something that prevented it from taking off. The updater did something to make it go ahead when plugged in.

My $.0001. I know nut-ing, I saw nut-ing, I heard nut-ing!
Thanks a million
