Routing problem - cannot receive incoming calls

Post by Nisko1 »

Has anyone come up with a solution for this issue? I found that incoming calls from a T-Mobile cell phone work fine. This is an important clue. But, from Verizon and AT&T, they don't. Those are the only carriers I have been able to test so far. MJ Tech Support is of no value. :(

As with everything MJ, there is no clear answer. I receive calls from an AT&T cell on a regular basis, with no issues other than the spotty AT&T service. Others have reported that some exchanges are not recognized by some carriers until they are notified.

I WAS receiving all calls from Verizon Wireless cell phones - but it all of a sudden, today, stopped. Also AT&T stopped. However, T-Mobile continues to work. Is this the fault of MJ or the carriers blocking the signals? Sounds like the carriers to me.

Did you neglect to pay your monthly fees?

AT&T problems

Post by hankwil74 »

I am not able to receive calls from AT&T cell phones, and I think I found out why. I this article

http://blogs.forbes.com/ericsavitz/2011 ... -att-case/

It states, pretty much, that MagicJack used a "front company" to charge AT&T to connect calls to MagicJack, and the AT&T challenged those charges. The FCC ruled, "FCC agreed with AT&T’s view that it should not have to pay call termination fees to YMax, a sister company to MagicJack, for calls from AT&T lines to MagicJack customers, nor for calls to toll-free numbers held by AT&T customers from MagicJack users."

It seems like AT&T rightly stopped paying these fees when the ruling was made, and in response, MagicJack stopped routing calls from AT&T cell phones. Why they simply won't own up to this on their chat, I have no idea.

I get regular calls on an AT&T cell phone about 3 times a week, the last one being Friday. So it's a good theory, but unless they are doing it only in selective parts of the country, it's a wrong theory.

Tried it again this morning from 3 different AT&T cell phone numbers, and all still got a busy signal.

I'm sure no one doubts that they are not coming through to your MJ. The question is whether it's widespread or localized. Not always, but usually, when MJ does something widespread, like nationally blocking all incoming calls from a large company like AT&T, you would see this forum lit up like a Christmas tree.

And the fact that I'm getting calls from an AT&T cell phone leads me to the conclusion that it's localized. How local, your phone, your area code, your state, who knows. It's no answer for you, but I'm convinced it's something other than MJ blocking all of AT&T. If you just recently signed up or changed your MJ number, there have been prior reports in here of a carrier having to be notified of a MJ exchange in order for the calls to go through.

It's a long-shot, but. I just called my AT&T cell relative, and had the call returned to see what would happen. When I answered the call from the soft phone, the call would not connect. When they called back again and I answered from the phone itself, the call connected. And stay connected for almost a full hour. I then had them do another test call, and when I tried to answer from the soft phone again, no connection. Like I said, it's a long-shot but you never know.
