Re: Dial 1 before area code

Post by JerryI »

Here in the Dallas Area we have to dial an area code for all numbers that we call, including local ones. There are at least four area codes here. I am in area 972. Some of my neighbors within a mile are long distance, requiring a 1 ahead of the area code, whereas other neighbors as much as 40 miles away are local, even though they have a different area code. So with regular land line service it is maddening. Whether you dial ten or eleven digits, about half the time you get an annoying message from AT&T that you have dialed incorrectly and should have or should not have dialed the 1 ahead of the area code, and you then have to waste another minute or so redialing.

Somewhere I read or inferred that with MagicJack I can dial eleven digits for everything. I would like to know if that is true or not so that I can program my new phone system with the 50 numbers in my directory correctly.

Help is much appreciated.

MJ requires only 10 digits for all US/Canada numbers.

You may dial a 1 if you like, but it is not necessary.
Enjoys a daily VOIP cocktail made from:

-One shot Magic Jack
-One shot TK6000
-One shot NetTalk Duo
-Two shots Ooma (it's bigger)

Shaken, not stirred.

Google Voice is the chaser.

Thanks for the info. This feature alone should pay for MagicJack in a couple weeks, because I willl no longer have to waste time redialing new numbers or listening to AT&T tell me to dial again with/without the 1.

In the past I used to have difficulties with 10 digit dialing with MJ and got used to 1+10 digits even with local calls.
