supposedly a shelf life on MJ

Post by SparkyJack »

My daughter never used the MJ she received 4 years ago. It was still sealed in the plastic packaging when she handed it to a friend to use. The guy couldn't get it to work.

He was told by MJ Live Chat on Saturday that the activation code was out of date. He responded that there is nothing on the package that says this has to be activated within a year. The Live Chat Supervisor said MJ just enacted the "year policy" the day before, on that Friday. (Huh?)

Live Chat would not provide a refund, an updated activation code or a voucher for a new replacement.

Anyone ever hear of this and is there a way to use a brand new model from a few years back?

The MJ Chat was no help and the kid hooking it up was in no mood to shell out any money. It's here on my desk...$40 out the window.

I see new MJ for sale on ebay. How does a buyer know how old those are if indeed MJ has this new policy of a year's time?

I think she charged her friend $20 for her new in package MJ figuring this unit would still be accepted. He wasn't allowed to activate it and wasn't interested in shelling out another $20 when a new MJ costs $37 at Walmart.

Isn't MJ supposed to honor products that are brand new no matter what the age? Ya think the MJ Live Chat persons provided him with the correct info?

I thought someone on this thread might have a way around the activation issue to make this unit work.

Thanks for your help and ideas, Scotty. I'm not such a techie on these things. I thought my young kids could have got around this problem.

It was my intention to put this issue on a chat forum before I asked MJ directly. I think my next step is to pester Radio Shack about this activation problem to hear what their experts have to say.

yeah - with a policy like that i would have no guilt into going to walmart or bed bath and beyond (which sometimes has them by the registers and has an easier return policy) buying a new one, swapping and returning the old one with the new receipt
