Inbound CID on MJ+ - Incorrect Date/Time
Hello,
I spent about 45 minutes with MJ support chat tonight and this one has me and them stumped. Essentially what is happening is when I get incoming caller ID through my MagicJack Plus, it shows something something like January 1st and 12:00 AM for the date/time. This is plugged directly into my router. However, when plugged into a computer, it shows the correct date/time on caller ID. I have checked the router settings for date/time and they are correct, any other theories while MagicJack's "engineers" look into it?

Can you set the time manually on your phone? Does your router have a ntp or utc setting you can try? Try using your MJ+ directly to your modem and see if that fixes the problem. Another thing to try would be to switch the server your MJ+ connects to but this is a hack that solves some problems with the old MJ. I'm not sure if the MJ+ has the failover settings that the old MJ has the ability to do.
My phone does have a time setting...it was always set correctly. I'm not quite sure what you mean by ntp/utc, but if you mean having the router get the date/time info from the internet based on timezone setting, that is done. Using it directly to modem is not an option for me as I am running a somewhat unconventional broadband setup (not cable or dsl, can't get either, its through a local wireless company) so I don't actually have a modem per say. I am not exactly sure what you mean by switch it to a different server but I could try plugging it into another switch instead. I'm still open to any other suggestions as this one has me stumped.sabresfan wrote:Can you set the time manually on your phone? Does your router have a ntp or utc setting you can try? from what i see you got a usb net stick from the cell company? that net must be costly!. One thing u can do with that is get a router that u can plug your stick in to then u can plug mjp directly to it and hopefully get the right time but if that dont work just get a phone that u can manually set your self
have a good one

Ha, used to do that due to lack of options. Thankfully not anymore that was very expensive for less than stellar service. It was better than satellite because I had unlimited data and much lower ping times but definately not ideal. However not anymore, theres a local company that. provides low end DSL esque service in the new development across the street and we are able to get service from them so that is more than good enough for me considering the situation. 1/4 mile away from cable and DSL and has been that way for 7 years and do not anticipate change anytime soon so to say the least I am very happy to have what I have. Anyone who can get cable/fiber/high end connections, you don't realize what a privilege it is just to have that option.scotty200 wrote:from what i see you got a usb net stick from the cell company? that net must be costly!. I'm also experiencing this exact same problem
I have a panasonic cordless phone. the sad part is, i can manually set the time, but everytime the phone rings, the magic jack resets it to 01/01/01
Was a fix ever found for this? this is quite annoying now.
THe distinctive ring option also does not work for my voicemail...

Yes, the caller id issue is annoying but not even close to stuttering calls now. I have set traffic on port 5060-5070 as high priority on my router under quality of service settings, and there doesn't seem to be issues on the side of my isp. It makes the phone almost useless at times. Seriously, if NetTALK offered number porting, i'd be long gone from MagicJack by now.scotty200 wrote:i also have the same thing they should add something in the soft phone so u can change the date and time on the chip for mjp
also on mine now i get choppy calls i did everything i can to stop it from being so bad even port forward as the tech told me

I just finished a chat about the caller ID no date time transmission and pointedly asked if they knew there was a problem and is anyone working on it.
Here is some of that conversation:
I'm Clyde and they are "Loren".
Clyde: Do they even knbow it is a problem? Is anyone working on it?
Loren: Yes, do not worry all chat sessions are saved and will be used for future references.
Clyde: But are any engineers working on the caller id problem now? Do they even know there is a problem?
Loren: Yes, they are aware of the issue.
That may not be any more info than previously posted, but I thought it might help someone feel better, maybe.
I did quite a bit of reading up on caller ID and how it works before getting into this with MJ. CID info is just an ASCII data string sent between the first and second rings, and IT includes the time and date as well as the number, etc--that is ALL the CID data. No more comes from any other place, not my computer, not my router. This comes from the phone company. The "phone company" for me is now MJ. Seems to me it's their problem.

i added only one contact to see what happen..and unplug magic jack plus and plug back to wall with router, phone line and my account has that contact and i tried to call from cell to home where i can see correct date and time(3 hrs ahead)...
i think any changes we make on soft phone saves as a default so my contact might be way to update time and date.
i hope this help.
thanks

I set the time and date on my phone using Pacific time but it has been changing to Eastern time. It turns out that anytime someone calls, the Caller ID automatically resets the time. I guess the MagicJack server is set to Eastern time and cannot be changed in the settings. I hope the engineers are aware of this problem and will address it in a future update.
MJ+ Wrong CID time
I wanted to bring this topic up again since 2011 was the last dated entry.
I bought MJ+ about 6 months ago and the CID time has always been 1 hour behind real time, which for me is EDT. I see most people post that their timestamp is ET, but I'm in ET and it's incorrect.
When I run MJ+ through my computer, the CID timestamp is correct, but when run through the router, it's 1 hour behind. Yes, I've checked the router time: it's correct and set to EDT.
Any other thoughts?

TimeZone Issue With MJ+
Continuing to have the same problem as well. Initially it was registering ET, but is now on CT. Unfortunately I am on Mountain Time. I also have the Panasonic Cordless set mentioned by another user. He asked, but as far as I can tell never answered, how to set the phone to manual time, instead of automatic. Every time I set the phone in settings, it is overwritten in MJ almost immediately. Sure would appreciate a fix, since as mentioned it messes with voicemail messages, etc. Thanks for any help.
I'm not sure if all the Panasonic models work the same, but for my KX-TGA401 here are the steps I took to turn off the time's automatic setting.rmkling525 wrote:How do I set the handset to manual instead of automatic?
Press "Menu"
Scrolll Up or Down to "Set date & time" and press select
Scroll Up or Down to "Time adjustment" and press select
Scroll Down to "Manual" and press save
Now the time is no longer changed when you receive a call.
Re: TimeZone Issue With MJ+
Find it somewhat amazing that this is still a problem. I have connected Magic Jack Plus to my router and the caller ID overwrites my phone time and resets it to Central Time (I am in EDT). My router has the correct time zone and time set. When I first checked the router, it was set to central time! I corrected that, but MJ won't correct the time - it keeps resetting the time to Central. I've unplugged and replugged MJ, but still not setting the time correctly.FirePro wrote:Continuing to have the same problem as well. Initially it was registering ET, but is now on CT. I've changed my phone to manual time setting so it won't keep changing the time, but clearly this should have been fixed long ago.
Anyone know if a fix was ever found for this bug??
I have tested this and can confirm this is a problem with the time generated from MagicJack's Caller ID service where it returns the TIME= and DATE= information on the telephone line for Caller ID devices/phones to decode.silk42 wrote:I'm not sure if all the Panasonic models work the same, but for my KX-TGA401 here are the steps I took to turn off the time's automatic setting.rmkling525 wrote:How do I set the handset to manual instead of automatic?

This option to set to manual time is not available on all phones with caller id display. There are some phones that allow you to set a manual time/date, but when an incoming call is received, the CALLER ID information will change the existing date/time to whatever is listed in the CALLER ID's TIME= and DATE= result codes set by the "phone company".
MagicJack is reporting the wrong time for TIME= and it is 1 hour back and this causes some phones to reset the time 1 hour back automatically.
Some cordless phones like some Motorola models don't have the option to override automatic time/date setting. So unless MagicJack fixes this problem, you're SOL.
BTW. I don't see anywhere you can adjust your local time zone in MagicJack accounts, so where do they base the time information from? your registered address?
