Magic Jack + changes time on my phone when incoming call

Post by jrb2011 »

Anyone know why magic jack plus changes date and time on your phone when incoming calls received?

MJ+ has a time and date issue when it runs in stand alone mode, they are working on a fix for the problem and it will take another update from MagicJack.com update link when they have it ready.

I'm having the same problem actually when MJ plus is plugged in to router but thanks if they're working on it. Hopefully, they'll get it resolved the soonest time possible.

I received my mj+ in early October and had the same problem. I would set the date/time on my phone and when I received a call it would reset to January 1st 12am. I did the online chat and they were not helpful at all. It wasn't a huge issue since the date/time was correct on the emails i received for voicemails and the notifications i setup on my ipad 2. Nearly a month later and the problem has resolved itself. I did not apply any updates yet somehow the date and time are now current. Now I just need an android app for my phone :)

this is the way i update my time and date

Post by hp2008 »

Hi,

i have magic jack plus for two weeks...time and date issue 12am,1/1...so finally i tried to add my contact in on magic jack plus soft phone ...which i can see in my account also....and i plug magic jack plus back to wall

i have correct date with east coast time..(3hrs adead from az).....i have to find out how to change time zone since voice mail also has east coast time zone.

i think any changes we make on soft phone saves as a default so add one or two my contact will update time and date.

all phone calls (incoming)now has 3hrs ahead time with correct date.

thanks

Same issue here, I am in California, and after the first MJ call it resets any handsets plugged into the MJ dongle to East Coast time. Support was of no help one bit.

I found out that the time on the MJ+ comes from a server in Palm Beach County Florida, That puts it in the eastern time zone.

Still waiting on a big update for the MJ+.

Not EST

Hi,
Just thought I would respond to this as I live in Florida which is on Eastern Standard Time.
Our handsets are connected wirelessly to the main unit (Panasonic) which plugs into our MajocJack.
All of our handsets show the time 1 hour later than what it actually is.

This has been a problem for years and MJ never has fixed it. My Panasonic phone keep changing to one hour ahead of EST. And when daylight time starts, the phone still jumps one hour ahead. Strange, but the device otherwise works fine.

I just activated my first MagicJack just a half hour ago. In testing mine, the Caller ID timestamp is changed from my time zone to three hours ahead to Eastern time zone time. I am looking at my idle caller ID screen on my AT&T T1909 Trimline phone and the current time is permanently set three hours ahead. I just logged into my router to see what the date/time is set to and it's properly set to Pacific time zone (Los Angeles) though I'm not in California. So, the issue still isn't resolved as of September 2024.

I wonder if a Caller ID box, separate from the phone, would provide local time or if It would also read the network time sent by MagicJack? Has anyone tried buying one? I wonder if one of the vintage models would be less likely to read the timestamp sent by MJ?

I just found a post relating to someone's Verizon VOIP phone line and how any new call that comes in changes the correctly set time and date information to be five hours ahead. I have no knowledge of how this would correlate to MagicJack because I don't know what an Optical Line Terminal is. I'm sure this could help as they are both VOIP providers and it sounds like they they would likely have similar equipment. Perhaps this could be suggested to MagicJack tech support? I may start my own journey to get this resolved through customer service/tech support. Considering how many problems other people have getting things resolved, I may leave well enough alone as it's not a deal-breaker for me.

Original Post: https://community.verizon.com/t5/Digita ... 61927#M826:
Subject: Incorrect time on caller ID
Yesterday (11-24-2021) I had service done to fix a problem with the TV service. The ONT was replaced and everything seemed to be working ok. Now I notice that when I get calls on my LAND LINE, the caller ID timestamp is 5 hours ahead. There was no problem before the service work yesterday.

I have a stand alone caller ID device as well as desk top phones that display the caller ID information with the time of the call. The time is 5 hours off, 9am here shows as 2pm on device.

I have tried working with Verizon support through their "chat" as well as talking to a real person. Both are telling me that the issue is with my devices. I have checked the manual for my stand alone caller ID device and there is NO way to adjust the time zone on the device. I can reset the local time on the device, but when I get an incoming call, the device time jumps ahead 5 hours. They do not understand that the caller ID service provides the time of the call.

Is it possible that the new ONT box is set to a different time zone and causing the problem ?
Resolution:
Today (Dec. 2nd, 2021), Verizon sent someone to upgrade my internet speed and look into the caller ID timezone problem. By luck it was the same tech that was here before. I showed him how the time would change on my caller ID device with any incoming calls. He was stumped and called some people back at the office. They were stumped as well until someone went to look at the OLT (Optical Line Terminal). Apparently this device was the source of the timezone problem The device can be managed and after they made some change to its settings, my caller ID is now showing the correct time.
