Maybe its only on original MJ, as I still see it on mine, 34.99, should probably pick one up and resell it as I dont want to lose the time I have left on current MJ right now.

Have yet to see it on mine. Maybe they have a definition of "loyal" customer. Someone who never uses customer support? Or if you do you only rate them 5 out of 5? Or you don't use it with GoogleVoice? Or you don't bitch in this forum when people call you and are told you don't have long-distance service? Or you don't give his nephew Pablo123 a hard time? Or maybe it's because I just renewed my regular MJ for a year and they don't want to waste that valuable soft-phone advertising space on the assumption I might be more inclined to start calling non-existent relatives in Columbia and need international minutes more than a Plus?

I've been watching mine since Friday afternoon, and don't think it started more than a half day or so before that. As with most things MJ, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Although it will hurt my feelings if Dan doesn't like me.

Not quite that serious. YET. But if too many others post that they are getting the offer again after they bought one, it might be time. Dan, PLEASE, I take back anything bad I posted, and most of the bad things I have thought, about your wonderful company and the way you run it.

Why doesn't someone simply post the link they are sent to for "loyal customers" instead of this foolishness of waiting for it to appear in the window?

The soft-phone ads I have clicked on ask for long-in information. But if they aren't limiting it to customers in a certain geographic area, or some other reason, a link should work.

Come on now. Knock it off. Sounds like a good business idea to me to piss off a certain percentage of their current users. Some of who might be deciding the week of the biggest sales period of the year what device to buy as gifts.

(See Dan, I'm loyal. I am curious though if Magic or Jack is in charge of your marketing department.)

I received the offer this afternoon good for one day only. It was $34.95 plus $10.95 for Canadian shipping. Interestingly after buying it offered five or six more specials. The main one was for additional MJ+ units for $35 too with free shipping and another offer was for 5 years of service for $100. I didn't take the offer because I didn't want to lose my first year of free service that comes with the MJ+. I just renewed my regular MJ for one year two weeks ago.

i got the promo offer last Friday. Order it and received it that Monday. $49 total. Been using the MJ+ and it's been OK. had issues using my macbook to register it so i had to boot into my Win 7 installer via Bootcamp and register it there. One issue i've had is the time configuration on the MJ+. Its making my telephone display the wrong time zone. Also i had 2 calls to the same number that said i was breaking up, but i suspect it's their phone system and not mine because my other calls are fine. Just in case i did some tweaking in my Linksys WRT54GL's Tomato firmware QoS settings to give highest priority to the MJ+ so we'll see how that goes. Overall i'm happy and glad i can FINALLY turn off my PC that nobody uses anyways.

I have the Exclusive 48 Hour Sale 1/2 Off $34.95 display on my soft phone. I guess it will be there all day, as it's already been there longer than the usual ads that cycle. I clicked it and it opened Microsoft Explorer, not my usual browser, to a display that gave more information and had a "Click for 30 Day Trial!"

I did that and it didn't like me after repeated attempts. Boy, was I pissed! I finally found some very old information about my mJ account that showed when I bought my first one, I had used a different email address (I have two Yahoo! accounts). I then used that email address and password and mJ let me in to buy the mJ+. When I log into my.magicjack.com, I use my other email address. In there is where I found something with the old email ID. This might help somebody here.

Anyway, I went through the steps, and they made a 5-year offer for $99.75 and a chance to order more mJ+ devices for the same half price. I ordered a second one that way, but not the 5-year plan. I was tempted by the 5-year offer because it included 5 years of no-question-asked service.

Earlier this year I purchased the mj 5year plan. The loyal customer deal will give me 1 free year for the 4 mj years I loose. No thanks, if I cannot be fairly compensated for my loyal mj years I will just switch to the competition when my plan expires. $70 for 5 years mj vs $100 for 5 years mj+ should equal 3.5 years of mj+.

Totally agree, and the excuse is silly...

Your Question
Can I transfer my existing magicJack years to magicJack PLUS?

Answer

No. Years cannot be transferred from magicJack to magicJack PLUS, as these are two different products.

Really? how stupid! Is it not the same service on different hardware?

Smart enough to come up with the original and now the PLUS but you cant figure out how to move a plan?

Well I'm sure not gonna buy one any time soon...if ever.

This would have been a perfect way to get repeat buyers but not if it means being a slave to you old MJ because my "years" are stuck on it.

Cant see how hard it can be to verify my current plan, cancel it and credit the equivalent to the PLUS since it cant be "transferred"

Or better yet, why cant both devices be registered to the same account?

 well I guess all comes down to money talks and...

Just register your new MJ + with teh same number as your orig MJ. Then you can continue using your orig MJ and the plus at the same time. Of course they will both expire at different times. Just a way around you losing your 5 years...

I read this advice a few times and quite frankly I never understood what value would there be in having two MJ with the same number. If they gave you a different number for one of them then you could let somebody else use it or possibly even use it yourself.
But this makes absolutely no sense and you can safely say that you lose your money.
Off course, there have been 100+ posts on this forum warning peo9ple not to take those 5 year subscriptions so whoever did should not complain.

Well one can use the other as a backup if one of their MJ's failed.. Can use one on a different PC and have a "second" line. There are a few reasons, but all and all, YEP stay away from the 5 year plan and yes MJ should allow one to transfer remaining time to what is pretty much the same service.
They point I was trying to make was your remaining years are not "lost" like some are complaining. Just a "tad" less convenient to use...Or need to be used in another way.

They do give you the option to get a new number on the new device so you don't have to lose your money whether you keep the new number or not on the Plus. If it was me I would keep my current number on the Plus. Then I would pay the $10 to get a new number on the regular MJ, and do what you mentioned, give it to a relative or close friend to use up my remaining years.

But the uses for 2 devices with the same number must be pretty limited. You could keep one on your PC and one on your laptop that you take with you wherever, if you have wireless access on your laptop, instead of constantly installing and uninstalling it between the 2 . And I suppose the better off among us could keep one at the second house or vacation estate. But the day I get in that situation will be the day I quit messing with VOIP of any kind.

Good adeas...
A have 2 numbers on my MJ, 1 - when registered, 1 - moved from another carrier. Now I'm using 2nd. Can 1 switched MJ for 1st number and take 2nd for MJ+ ? Both MJ's must be registered for same account?

Those assholes. They WOULD put up a promo, a couple weeks after I complained about their shitty original MJ, and how they wouldn't give me a discount on a new MJ+ because they couldn't fix my problems.

I already bought the new MJ+ for full price. I think I'm going to return it, buy another one, return it, etc over and over again, just to screw with them.

MagicJack Plus offer does not show up on my dial pad

Post by aerospacecase »

FYI - this is my experience with the MJ chat support.

You are now chatting with 'Aram'

Your Issue ID for this chat is xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Brian: I do not see the 1/2 off offer for MJ+ on my MJ screen. Other people are able to get it. Here is a post from www.phoneservicesupport.com forum: "Posted: Thu Dec 01, 2011 7:51 pm Post subject: 48 hour sale today 12/1 Reply with quote 48 hour sale, Half off JackPLUS came up on my screen TODAY!..." Where can I get that offer?

Aram: Hello, how may I help you?

Aram: Please wait while I check that for you

Aram: Thank you for waiting...

Aram: Do you see the promo on the dial pad on your screen now ?

Brian: Let me check...

Aram: Alrgiht

Brian: No. Should I restart MJ?

Aram: Yes please

Brian: It still has the renew original MJ message.

Aram: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.

Aram: May I have your mj phone number ?

Brian: xxx-xxx-xxxx

Aram: Please wait while I check that for you

Brian: ok

Aram: Thank you for waiting..

Aram: Promo is for selected customer only, Brian

Brian: How do you select the customer?

Aram: higher management select that Brian, You can only purchase the promo if you see it on the dial pad

Brian: I have been disappointed with the quality of the original Magic Jack and would be much more inclined to recommend it to my friends and associates if the new version worked much better. Can't higher management authorize an action that will make it display on my dial pad?

Aram: No, I may suggest to wait for the promo to appear on your dial pad, Brian

Brian: Is there account criteria that causes the ad to show up on the dial pad?

Aram: They told us it is for loyal customer

Brian: Does that mean a customer who ordered additional years instead of just one year?

Aram: It might be, Just watch for the promo on the dial pad, Brian

Brian: Would the promo appear after my current subscription runs out?

Aram: It will appear only on the active subscription

Brian: It seems like a good business decision to lock people into $30 a year subscriptions instead of $20. Maybe higher management is unaware of the postings on the forums that are happy with the technical aspects of Magic Jack but very disappointed in the web site and marketing. If you can get management to put my account in the promo ad rotation, I will order the new product, otherwise I would probably just drop MJ and get a different VOIP product.

Aram: I will be right with you.

Aram: Sure, I will try to forward your concern to the right department

Brian: Do you mean they will take over this chat session?

Aram: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.

Aram: I'll just forward your concern to them

My account expires tomorrow. I don't think I will see the promo appear on my dial pad. Apparently I am not "loyal enough" for their liking.

At this point I assume that both mJs with the same number will ring when somebody calls. Answer one of them, just like they were extensions, but now somebody can pick up the other one, get a dial tone and make a call. If the other one stays on hook, it will ring when somebody calls, even when the first one is in use.

So, for the right situation, this can work nicely. Friends only need to remember the one number, but you have two working phones for making and receiving calls. Of course, it would be a bad idea if the phones are in separate places.

When I got the MJ+ and went to check out several times
the page asked if I wanted 5 yrs of service - then buy more
than one yr. , so I think MJ people are hoping you will get more
than just the one yr. On my old MJ I had the 5 yr plan and still have
2+ yrs left .. maybe this is a key who there sending this too

Nettalk doing ok - Q is not the best , so will try MJ+ and see how it
goes .. big thing about Nettalk is they had my local code were MJ
did not ..

My original MJ expires today. I pulled it off my daughter's computer and was testing it on my laptop to see if the $34.95 MJ+ offer would show up. I did several calls using my laptop microphone and speakers and the quality was good. I decided to just extend my subscription for a year to use the MJ on the laptop. I am also curious to see if extending will cause the offer to pop up on my dial pad. I still want a router connected MJ+ to use with the phones in the house since my wife insists on keeping the landline number that is now assigned to Vonage. If MJ+ works well, I will port the number over from Vonage and cancel that service. Meanwhile the original MJ device can be used if I want to make calls while on my laptop which I normally had to do quite often using wireless phone in speaker mode with a poor quality MJ connection when it was plugged on my daughter's slower computer. Sometimes it was so bad I had to switch to my cell phone or ask the other party to call in to my Vonage (with limited outgoing minutes) phone.

I extended my service about a week before the offer started showing up. I have yet to see the offer, so I thought extending it might have stopped it from coming. My guess is that it's more likely based on geography. Maybe areas whose servers are not as busy?

Gosh, what do you know? After extending my original MJ service today, I plugged in the device and the $34.95 offer magically appeared on my dial pad. I went ahead and ordered it but their shady marketing practices and crappy customer support leave a bad taste in my mouth. Now I will have a month to see if the MJ+ hooked up to a router is as good as it is advertised to be.

I doubt if the offer is based on geography. It is slightly possible, though I doubt it, that my live chat session resulted in them placing my number on the ad rotation list. Maybe you should check with live chat and complain that you don't get the ad and you are a loyal customer.

So much for the geography theory. I have tons of other MJ theories if anyone is interested.

A person I know who was deeply involved in the auto industry told me a long time ago to never buy a new car in the first year of production. There are always things that end up needing to be adjusted and changed that they did not anticipate. I would imagine the same holds true for electronics. For now I am sticking with my regular MJ and will postpone buying a Plus until it appears all the kinks are gone. I just feel left out by not getting the offer. I will get over it, eventually.

If there are "kinks", they should be able to be fixed by a firmware upgrade without having to get a different device. That is unless they really screwed up the design so bad that new hardware is required.

I might have switched to Nettalk but they are not perfect either and right now have no capability to port numbers.

Meanwhile, I can use my original MJ with my wireless laptop microphone and speakers and it works much better than when it was plugged into a slower desktop computer with an ethernet connection. When my MJ+ arrives, I will have a month to see if it works using the router connection. I will also see if it works with a cordless phone and the house wiring plugged in at the same time.

True enough, but I still prefer to wait until their crack engineering team catches up with any needed fixes.

The same crack engineers, btw, that apparently told customer service after my second chat visit on the subject that it was IMPOSSIBLE that a caller into my regular MJ was getting a recording telling them I did not have long-distance service and to call the magicTalk access number to complete the call to me. Weeks later the issue is still there with no sign of the promised email.

A crack engineering team to go along with a marketing and sales team on crack. Soon you will be told these problems are "features" not bugs. I agree with your comment about cars but I don't think this compares even close on that scale. This is a lot more about the BS that continues to flow out of MJ. At worst it is lies and deceptions, at best it is an entire company (Dan, Magic, and Jack apparently) of people that have no idea how to create a viable and sustainable business model. It is amazing that the money behind this train wreck doesn't install capable management and make someone accountable to the customers.

I think the promo logic is something like this:
If customer_prepaid_yrs > 2 OR customer time_since_last_renewal < 1 day
then show loyalty_promo
else hide loyalty_promo

Thankfully I have no prepaid time other than my current few remaining months. It is idiotic and abusive for them to not transfer prepaid $'s to an equivalent value of MJ+ time, at 2/3 value for instance. This is strictly a company policy to wring the maximum amount of revenue out of customers with the belief that people will upgrade anyway AND that the company will get to keep all of the revenue for that unused time. Instead, they have created this firestorm of ticked off customers who will never again buy more than a year prepaid and who are ticked off enough to try NetTalk just out of anger (not to mention it's cheaper with MJ discount and allegedly as good or better service). This might possibly be the most customer-unfriendly company I have ever experienced, and I've seen some bad ones.

Just came up on my screen today...48 hour deal. I bought it, just one, with NO extra years.
