I just got the MagicJack Plus so I could get rid of our landline and wanted our old phone number ported over. It said there's a $19.95 fee to do that (which seemed high but figured once it's done, that's the end of it). Ported over the number and then came to a screen that said I was being charged $19.95 now plus $9.95 each year after that for the number.
Is this true? To keep my own number I will have to pay an additional $9.95 on top of the year's service?
And if it's true, I'm going to seriously try and return the MagicJack now and swap the number to a cell phone and be done with it. If I can't return it, I'll swap it over when the first year's service is up to a cheap cell phone that has a $20 top up every 3 months when the time comes around.

Well that's not reassuring at all. I can understand the one-time charge to port the number, but I certainly won't agree to paying an additional fee each and every year for my own number when there is absolutely nothing that MagicJack has to do in order to keep it. Once it's ported it's done with and there is no other maintenance involved.

Yearly charge for Ported Numbers
I Ported my number in August of 2011 For $20 and there was no mention at the time of a yearly charge. Well I just received a bill from Magic saying my ported number would be removed unless I paid a $10 fee and I would have to do that every year.

A good opportunity to port your number OUT of MJ and to a decent provider.Well I just received a bill from Magic saying my ported number would be removed unless I paid a $10 fee and I would have to do that every year. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
