THE LATEST MJ NEWS For Those Who Haven't Yet Heard - Updated
Some MAGICJACK NEWS, for those of you who may not yet have heard it:
1. Company profits and revenues for the months of April and May alone exceeded analysts’ predictions for all of 2012.
2. The company’s previously-announced share buyback program will proceed, essentially paid for by the company’s profits.
3. The new MJ app for ANDROID phones and tablets should be released for consumer downloading within a month.
4. MJ expects that it will add SMS TEXT MESSAGING capability to its current iOS app and its new Android app by the end of this year.
4. WHOLESALE (“warehouse”) clubs will begin offering MJ’s products for retail sale over the next few months.
5. Also by the end of this year, MJ expects to release for sale a new device that will have Wi-Fi transmission built into it for people who prefer or need Wi-Fi connection to their router as opposed to an Ethernet cable. The company has ALSO developed its own DECT 6 chipset, which will be incorporated into the *next* MJ device release; this will enable the device to serve as a DECT 6 multi-handset telephone base station in addition to a VOIP adapter (which it currently is). A *subsequent* product release will *also* have a 4G modem-on-a-chip as well, enabling the device to also serve as a 4G Wi-Fi “hotspot” for data transmission.

If history is an indicator?? I would not hold my breath for any of these to happen on schedule and in some cases, at all.. MJ seems to use a different calendar and space time continuum than the rest of us on this planet..SteveHC wrote:Some MAGICJACK NEWS, for those of you who may not yet have heard it:

I do suspect that their announcements re: the apps are credible though (no hardware manufacturing or distribution required).

Just a few days after having purchased, received and set up the "new" MJ+ to replace the "old" MJ, I received email about the "new" MJ+Wi-Fi to come "soon". My "new" MJ+ is now already old.
So now I'm waiting and looking forward to another "24 hour trade up special" to the latest "new" MJ.
Wish I had known about this 3rd generation "soon" to come before I bought the 2nd generation MJ.
C&P:
"You are receiving this email because you signed up to receive specific
updates regarding new products from MAGIC JACK.
We are pleased to report that VocalTec and magicJack have announced
plans to release a new magicJack product called the magicJack Wifi
sometime in the neat future. Please see our release below for more
information regarding the magicJack Wifi.
We will notify you immediately via this email list when the magicJack Wifi
is released so that, as a loyal magicJack user, you will have first chance to
purchase it.
Press Release
MagicJack WiFi is the latest addition to VocalTec’s stable of
VoIP telephone devices. It is the third generation version of the device and
provides the same features as the first and second generation devices, along
with several improvements.
Like the first two products, the magic Jack Wi Fi will provide users with
local and long distance calling to anywhere in the United States and Canada
for $29.95 per year (as low as $19.95 in some cases). The difference however
will be in how the device operates due to it’s new TJ980 chipset.
With the first one users had to plug the device into their computers USB port
and keep their computer running 24/7 in order to make or receive calls. With
the updated plus device users were able to move it over to a high-speed port
on their modem or router. With the original device, involving a computer caused
a number of complications that were tied to the performance of each individual
persons computer. Once the MJ+ was released the majority of these issues were
resolved, but still with it’s relianceon being hooked up to another device,
complications arose.
Luckily for us the WiFi version has totally eliminated these concerns due to it’s
802.11n access point feature. With this new version you will only need an electrical
outlet and a regular phone. Simply configure the device so that it connects with your
wifi internet signal, hook the device up to your phone and into an electrical outlet
and you will be ready to go. Besides an internet connection the new magicJack
will be able to work independently and not rely on the performance of another
gadget. Several other improvement included in the new chipset are a dedicated
high speed local bus for WiFi RF, LCD panel display interface, seamless
interface to DECT phone, video compression engineer, auto audio gain control,
a power saving sleep mode, and built in double clock DDR memory. Also
included will be a doubling of processing power, memory size, and memory
speed.
It will also be able to be used as a access point by plugging the unit into
a modem, and for cable and satellite boxes allowing them to receive WiFi for
video on demand. MagicJack Wi-Fi is expected to be released sometime during
the second half of 2012 and will be the same size as the Plus. Price estimates
have not been released for the new device yet but the per year subscription rate
is expected to stay at or near the $29.95 per year. As far as the release date
goes don’t hold your breath on it. In the past VocalTec has been very unreliable
in meeting their planned released dates for new products.
Sincerely,

I'm trying it out now. It seems to work fairly well, although sometimes it doesn't ring when the mJ+ phone rings. Go figure.SteveHC wrote:The MagicJack Android App is now available for download and installation to Android devices from Google Play.

- Be SURE to go online into your MagicJack account and check/set all of your App's settings that can be set online (if you haven't yet done so) - like ring time 'till voicemail pickup, etc.greenman wrote:I'm trying it out now. Excellent suggestion. I generally prefer the home phone to take messages. I changed the android to delay 1 minute too, just like the mj+.SteveHC wrote:- Be SURE to go online into your MagicJack account and check/set all of your App's settings that can be set online (if you haven't yet done so) - like ring time 'till voicemail pickup, etc.
I didn't know until you suggested it that the voicemail delay was per device.
Thanks!

Call Forwarding
Check your call forwarding too; That feature will go by by when you renew, unless you pay extra!
Call forwarding control access
If your call forwarding no longer appears in your features list, you should be able to access it at:

News:
Recently there has beeen a dispute between MJ (actually, its affiliated company YMAX Communications) and Verizon over the amount of call termination charges etc., resulting in some calls between the two companies not being connected unless long distance fees were to be charged or prepaid minutes were to be used. But today MagicJack and YMAX announced that the dispute has been settled, so I would think that calls between the two companies should go through OK now.
Also, MJ announced that it has developed a new device that can more easily work with Wi-Fi and 4G connections. More specifically, it has modified the MagicJack Plus device to include two USB slots, one USB plug, and a micro SD slot. Apparently the company made these modifications to improve functionality with Wi-Fi and 4G/LTE services, and to hopefully "offer discounted Internet access to new and existing customers using this device" (along with other, unspecified new functions and features). They expect the new product to be available in early Q2 2013. It will be slightly larger than the magicJack PLUS and will also offer "high definition (HD) voice."
MJ also claims that there will be one or more additional new products to follow in 2013 that will utilize a new 55nm chip designed for portable use and which will include a super scalar one Ghz CPU and much larger GB DDR2 or DDR3 memory "as well as over 25 other functions" (- maybe functions similar to PCSoft's MagicFeatures Plug-IN???).
The company also states that they will continue to sell the magicJack PLUS "as its price-leading model" - so expect the new device(s) to cost more at the retail level.
