My wife calls Venezuela to talk with her family using pre-paid calling cards. She's attempted to use them with MJ+ but a pre-recorded message comes in to promote MJ's international service.
I've used the MJ+ since it came out without any hassles and we've just added a second one with the idea we'd kiss Verizon goodbye. The calling cards are an exceptional value for international calls and if anyone knows which cards will work with MJ+ or how to get around this the info will be appreciated.
Just tried dialing one of the non-local access numbers on the card rather than one for our city -- it worked! Apparently MJ doesn't let you access calling cards from the city it's registered in.
Of course, I can get past this entirely by sending an MJ to my wife's family in South America.....
If broadband is available where the family lives, get a MJ for them. A friend did that for her brother in Ecuador and now she can talk with him without watching the clock (at least up to 90 minutes anyway).
With Localphone you can call Venezuela for 1.4c/min ( Caracas 1c/min).
Get an Obi for yourself and one for your family over there and enjoy totally free calling without monthly fees and great VOIP service for all other numbers with providers better than MJ.
I tried MJ, skype, viber and found that for most of the times free service is not clear and not reliable. There are many calling cards which focus on specific countries and offer better value for money solution.
