We have had the mj for about 2 months now with no problems. Incoming and outgoing calls work just fine. Our setup is as follows:
comcast cable modem ubee ddm3513 ->
belkin n300 wireless n router ->
magic jack plus ->
brother mfc-j410w (fax works in and out) ->
vtech ia5878 (working incoming and dial tone, no outgoing)
As I said, everything worked fine until recently. We still get calls coming in but the outgoing calls from the vtech are not working right. Anything dialed out with a area code attached will not go through. I dial the 10 digit number for my cell phone (verizon wireless), wifes cell phone (same), or my parents home phone (cox communications) and most other numbers, including time number in california, and I get the magic jack telling me that I must dial the area code and number to complete the call. At first, I thought I misdialed so I tried again (with and without the 1 at the beginning, making it 11 digits) with the same result.
Now I can call a 800 number without an issue. Even stranger, using the "hook" feature on the MFC, I can make a phone call fine. Hooking my mj+ up to my PC also works fine. I would say it is a phone issue, but it was working and with no changes made is now not. That and the error message ends with thank you for using magic jack.
I tired mj customer chat....... yeah I am sure you all know how that went. We almost never use the thing, and only family have the number, but heck if we gotta call 911, will it work??? And nope, I don't want to try it!
Any thoughts or ideas? I have rebooted everything btw and ran a straight line from mj to phone, taking the mfc out of the equation, with the same result. I really don't want to go buy a new phone just to try that out either.

I can't guarantee it will work for you but, when I tested it 911 worked fine they even roll a patrol car past the home.
If you plug in your MJ / MJ+ device in a USB port of on a Internet connected PC or MAC, at the bottom of the Dial Pad is the 911 indicator if it is green or yellow your most likely good.
I'll let others address the no dial out issue, It sounds like something is being blocked or something going on with the phone connected.

I actually think I got it narrowed down to the phone. When I plugged the usb into my laptop and the phone into the mj+ at that point, I saw that any number dialed poops up on the soft screen. When I dialed each number on the phone, I saw that the 3 and 6 (while showing up on the phone display and making a tone) did not show up on the soft screen. So whenever I dial a number with a 3 or 6 it is not carried over past the base. Strangely this same problem is with all 3 handsets. I will have to get another phone to find out for sure.

Hi
Im having the exact same problem, tried the 1800 number it worked but if I use any number that has 3 or 6 on the area code is does not work.Unfortunately i live in the fairfield county too, so 203 and 860 are the area codes...Sooo, i tried the mj+ tech support and after spending 4 hours chatting with 5 different stupid tech that asked me to unplug and plug it back many times and made me feel so so dumb they couldnt find a solution... not even an explanation ...im so angry i dont even know what else to do...can somebody help before i get crazy and break this thing in pieces?...
I'm assuming your handsets are all connected to the same cordless vtech base. It's time to try a plain corded phone. Buy or borrow one for a couple days. If you have no trouble with that phone, the problem must be with your vtech. It's probably got too high a REN.JimMadsen wrote:I actually think I got it narrowed down to the phone. Re: Hi
Have you tried a different phone - perhaps a corded phone hooked directly to the mJ+? If this works as directed, the problem is your phone.AngryChris wrote:Im having the exact same problem, tried the 1800 number it worked but if I use any number that has 3 or 6 on the area code is does not work.Unfortunately i live in the fairfield county too, so 203 and 860 are the area codes...Sooo, i tried the mj+ tech support and after spending 4 hours chatting with 5 different stupid tech that asked me to unplug and plug it back many times and made me feel so so dumb they couldnt find a solution... not even an explanation ...im so angry i dont even know what else to do...can somebody help before i get crazy and break this thing in pieces?...
