Post by gracey »

i can hear a clicking noise when magic jack changes its ad page on the softphone even when its minimized, like if I was clicking on a web page. Is there something I can do to disable it?

Does it make the same sound when you are on a web page in your browser?? IF yes, it is because the MJ softphone uses your browser to display it's ads. If you can disable that sound when you are browsing then I would imagine the sound on your softphone would be disabled as well.

You need to go into your Window sounds ( Control panel and then sounds) and look for the click sound and disable it. See when it occurs when you are using your browser and then peruse the list of sounds and find the one which matches and disable it... I am using XP so if you are using Vista or Win 7 it may be in a different place.
Again, since MJ softphone uses your browser for it's ads if the click sounds is present in your browser then you will hear it in MJ's softphone. As to why you are only hearing it now after installing MJ, sorry I do not have an answer, just a workaround for your problem.

gracey, that sound you are hearing is a part of "windows explorer" and MJ utilizes that sound when refreshing the ad on its window. In order to disable that sound, if you are on windows XP(Vista and 7 are similiar) there are a couple of ways to disable it, but be aware that it will disable that sound for every program that's using it. If you still want to turn it off follow the steps below:

Look in your system tray in bottom right hand corner of your taskbar and locate the little speaker icon, then right-click on it and choose --> adjust audio properties --> select the tab that says sounds at top --> then under program events, scroll down until you see windows explorer and scroll a little more and you'll see the option that says "Start Navigation," click on it so its highlighted then look below and you'll see Sounds with "Windows XP start.wav" below it(you can click the play button to hear the sound), click the arrow down beside it and scroll up, select none, then apply. Done.

If you are on windows Vista or 7, the steps are similar but if you need further help with those just PM me.

July 20 2013 - annoying click from dialpad ad manager update

Post by raleightom »

Just an update verifying that this problems has become worse with the release of the 2014 Magicjack. Seems the frequency of the clicking has increased and is much more annoying for some of us noise sensitive people

I am using Win 7 and using Control Panel then Sound then Sounds then Windows Explorer then Windows Navigator then changing from START.WAV to NONE then clicking OK and then exiting Control Panel should eliminate the Magicjack clicking

I did it today and do not know what the other implications will be. Wish their was a list of what the START.WAV sound is used for.

Even better, how to modify Magicjack to use a different sound byte that we do not need. Anyone have a clue :?:

NOTE: When I complained to Magicjack advanced (?) support last night, they told me to get the new Magicjack 2014 and not plug it into my PC. Sounds like they intentionally made the clicking more annoying to sell more new Magicjacks. I have had other problems with my old flawless Magicjack since Magicjack started the upgrades for Mobile and wall plug in abilities in the new Magicjacks. They say more advances soon. I say that is sad because they will, no doubt, not take care of their original customers still on long tern contracts with no previous problems

I rarely use the USB-enabled end of the magicJack plus.
I'm glad not to have to listen to ads clicking all day long.
I would certainly have returned the original magicJack USB, if I'd bought one before the mJ+.
