Magic jack+ USB and SDIO ports
What is the difference between USB and SDIO ports? The unit I have has two USB ports but I have not seen any SDIO ports separately. When I plugged USB flash drives in to those ports, they are not shown in my windows explorer as drives.

The SDIO port is the same size and shape as an SD card port, except it only works with SDIO cards that contain a wifi adapter. So instead of using ethernet, you can plug in a $50 SDIO card and use the magicJack plus 2014 wirelessly in your home or office -- wherever you have full access to wifi.lucayan wrote:What is the difference between USB and SDIO ports? You probably won't be able to use this at a cafe hotspot because they usually expect any new device to log in on a browser to accept the user policy. mJ+ 2014 won't do that.
As for the two USB ports, did the packaging come with anything telling you what they're for? Maybe usb headset and numeric keypad?

There is a SDIO port on the opposite side of the USB ports on the new 2014 MJ+. You indicate that a WiFi SDIO card could be inserted there and that would give the MJ dongle WiFi with the router. I've been trying to confirm this but nowhere does it say this will work. I can't spend $50 on a SDIO card and have it not work. Can this information be confirmed by anybody? I want to use my 6.0 phone base in another location from my router, and not have to use the Ethernet cable plugged into the 2014MJ+ but have the MJ talk to the router via WiFi. Possible?

I have no way to confirm my suspicions. It's just that we see a microSD-sized port labeled "WiFi". The only SDIO products that I know of so far are either full-sized SD or miniSD card format. These are currently no microSDIO cards out there. While the Eye-Fi brand carries an microSD card that connects to a USB adapter with its own internal WiFi, their microSD card is not technically an SDIO. It cannot connect to the web on its own. It must be inside its USB adapter, making it a rather purposeless device.
I'm waiting for magicJack to pull a rabbit out of the hat.
