Long distance service needed to call MJ+ customers?

I have mp+ and my mom can't call me because she doesn't have long distance service on her landline phone, even though we both live in the same city. How do I fix this?

First off you should have chosen ( if it were available) a local number to her. People can live across the street from one another and it can be a toll call depending on what the phone company considers local ( you can find that info in your phone directory).
Once you know what is local to your mom get a FREE Google Voice number ( hopefully they have the local exchange you need) and have it so when that number is called it will then ring whatever phone is connected to your Magic Jack. Problem solved.

You could try changing your Magicjack phone number to the same exchange your mother has for a $10 fee.

Go into your account and choose PHONE NUMBERS/ADD A PHONE NUMBER and Pick one of the phone number options and select a subscription from the drop down menu. Follow the prompts.

When you deactivated your old cell phone, did you also deactivate you cell phone service? If you did then your old number is no longer available.

You can only port a number from an active account.

If your mom has i'net available, give her a MJ and she can call you for free.

I had Go-Phone service through AT&T. Neither Google voice nor MJ has local numbers available. How is it that cellphones have more local numbers available through AT&T whereas the Google-V and MJ do not? If I reactivate my cellphone will I be able to port the number then?

Check (call) first to see if your "old" cell number is in use by other customer.
If you get recorded message from ph.co may be then it's still available and you can get it back and port it or whatever you need to do with it.

My old number is still availble. I tried to transfer it but it says that the number has to be active. I guess this means I have to reactivate my gophone for the cheapest price and then transfer it?

sure, and then pay $10 to mj if you are porting to them and then $10 per year to keep it with mj and then $$$ to move it out of mj when you no longer want to stay with mj.

They actually want $19.95 to transfer plus $10 to change the number. Is there a cheaper alternative?

For $30 + their other fees your problem is solved. Your mother will not have long distance charges any more.

They will also charge you $10/year to keep the number.

Thanks. The total costs for MJ+ compaired with the $50 per month I would normally have to pay for unlimited GoPhone service, it is worth it.

As BitstopJoe suggested, why not transfer your gophone to Google voice? From there, all you have to do is forward your GV calls to the magicJack number. Then have your mother (and everyone else) call your google voice number. That way you don't have to pay magicJack a $10 surcharge every year to keep your gophone number -- just the initial one-time $20 outlay to GV to transfer your old gophone number with GV (the one you know your mother can reach). From there, no matter what happens to the magicJack, you'll still always have GV to fall back on.
