Incoming calls go straight to vocemail
Been having a problem with this for months now. 3 tries with Customer Service got me nowhere. Hopefully someone here has a fix...
90% of my MJ incoming calls go to voice mail and do not show up on MJ screen. I always have my computer on and have a good internet connection. I have done the upgrades - switched phones - adjusted settings. The only reason I know there was a call was because I get an email saying I have a message. 1 out of 10 calls come through, but that is not very good.
Anybody have an ideas? Thanks!

Have you tried going into your MagicJack account online and checked all of your settings, especially your voicemail settings? You want to make sure that electing to both receive incoming and make outgoing calls is "checked," and make sure that it's set to ring at least 25 seconds (preferably more) before going to voicemail. Lastly, make sure your pc isn't set to go into either sleep or hibernation mode *at all* (you can only set the monitor/screen to go into sleep mode - or run a screen saver - without interfering with MJ operations).
Thanks Steve,
I checked my MJ settings:
(X) Accept incoming and outgoing calls
(x) ring time was at 25 seconds - I changed it to 45 seconds
My computer is set to never sleep. Have it in the high performance setting on. USB plugs are not set to shut off either.
I miss calls even when I am at the computer. They just do not show up on the MJ screen. I will only know I was called because it sends me an email that I have a message.

To do the following you'd do best to have a second, NON-MJ phone available (such as a cellphone) to make test calls to your MJ.
FIRST, make SURE that you've set your *router* to assign your pc (and all other devices on your LAN) its IP address (in other words, that you've set your router to serve as a DHCP server for your LAN), that your pc's ROUTER-assigned IP address consistently falls within the range of IP addresses that the router's been set to assign to attached devices, AND that you've indicated within your MJ online account settings that your MJ device's IP address is set dynamically (or however that's phrased on their website; sorry I forget exactly where in the acct management site this setting is located, but it IS important to make sure that it's set correctly).
SECOND, if the above is all set and you still have the problem, try turning off any & all virus-checking program(s) that are running on your pc. If that doesn't fix it, then try turning off your Windows (assuming your using a Windows pc) firewall & see if that fixes it. Make sure that you installed your MJ software while you were logged into your pc (preferably via an "administrator" account with full privileges) and that you're using the attached MJ device while you're logged into your pc via that same account, and try to make sure that you're not running any other weird applications or background processes that might conceivably be preventing the MJ softphone from handling calls (especially incoming calls) properly (you'll need to use your gut feelings on this one, but regardless it's really VERY rare to see such incompatibility with the MJ softphone).
THIRD, if you get this far and incoming calls still go directly to voicemail, try - if you can do this - connecting your pc directly to your MODEM (rather than your router) via Ethernet; then check to make sure you can fully access the Internet via your pc; THEN check to see how incoming (and while you're at it outgoing as well) calls are handled. If incoming calls STILL go directly to voicemail, then you've pretty much determined that the problem does NOT exist within your pc or router.
Consequently, if incoming calls still go directly to voicemail without even showing up on your MJ softphone, then in order to get this particular problem resolved you'll need to go online and engage in a MJ "live help" chat session. Be prepared to take a long time at it, to describe *exactly* what happens, *exactly* how you've got your MJ device set up, and to suggest to them (if they don't think of it themselves) that perhaps your account and/or its voicemail needs to be "reset." The most important piece of information here is that not only does your phone not ring, but that you have a MJ device connected to a pc and that incoming calls don't even show up in your MJ softphone on your computer - just go straight to voicemail - even when your pc's connected directly to your modem - and yet you can make outgoing calls.
If they suggest that you do things like unplug the MJ from the pc, restart it and/or reinstall, etc. that's fine. But if they tell you to start messing around with your operating system too deeply etc. don't fall for it, just insist that they try resetting your account etc.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Steve. I skipped ahead to step #2 since to me that seemed the most likely fix, and added the MJ auto.ico file to the anti-virus whitelist. When I called from my cell phone, it worked. My cell phone is not the best test though, as that has been one that usually goes through after dealing with Customer Service, but I have a good feeling about it.
Going to see what happens with outside calls in the next 24 hours, but I think you steered me in the right direction. If other calls do not go through, I will start addressing the router suggestions. Thanks for your advice!

You may as well wait for the "new" MagicJack+Wi-Fi that I just received a week after receiving the now "not new" MJ+:
C&P:
"Press Release
MagicJack WiFi is the latest addition to VocalTec’s stable of
VoIP telephone devices. It is the third generation version of the device and
provides the same features as the first and second generation devices, along
with several improvements.
Like the first two products, the magic Jack Wi Fi will provide users with
local and long distance calling to anywhere in the United States and Canada
for $29.95 per year (as low as $19.95 in some cases). The difference however
will be in how the device operates due to it’s new TJ980 chipset.
With the first one users had to plug the device into their computers USB port
and keep their computer running 24/7 in order to make or receive calls. With
the updated plus device users were able to move it over to a high-speed port
on their modem or router. With the original device, involving a computer caused
a number of complications that were tied to the performance of each individual
persons computer. Once the MJ+ was released the majority of these issues were
resolved, but still with it’s relianceon being hooked up to another device,
complications arose.
Luckily for us the WiFi version has totally eliminated these concerns due to it’s
802.11n access point feature. With this new version you will only need an electrical
outlet and a regular phone. Simply configure the device so that it connects with your
wifi internet signal, hook the device up to your phone and into an electrical outlet
and you will be ready to go. Besides an internet connection the new magicJack
will be able to work independently and not rely on the performance of another
gadget. Several other improvement included in the new chipset are a dedicated
high speed local bus for WiFi RF, LCD panel display interface, seamless
interface to DECT phone, video compression engineer, auto audio gain control,
a power saving sleep mode, and built in double clock DDR memory. Also
included will be a doubling of processing power, memory size, and memory
speed.
It will also be able to be used as a access point by plugging the unit into
a modem, and for cable and satellite boxes allowing them to receive WiFi for
video on demand. MagicJack Wi-Fi is expected to be released sometime during
the second half of 2012 and will be the same size as the Plus. Price estimates
have not been released for the new device yet but the per year subscription rate
is expected to stay at or near the $29.95 per year. As far as the release date
goes don’t hold your breath on it. In the past VocalTec has been very unreliable
in meeting their planned released dates for new products.
Sincerely,

Besides a web based access the new magicJack will be able to perform individually and not depend on the performance of another gadget. Several other enhancement involved in the new chipset are a devoted high rate regional bus for WiFi RF.

Same problem, I found my cause
Today I noticed incoming calls were going straight to voicemail, that some, but not all touch tones were being recognized, volume was low andI could hear echo on line.
A stint on LiveChat suggested I disconnect and reconnect every part of my cordless phone system. I opted to just use a simple phone and things were fine.
I really needed to use my 2 line, multiple handset cordless, though, and when I connected it, I had trouble again. I'd been using the same cordless system well over a year, so I was confused.
What I found was that the cable-modem phone line that I use for "Line 1" on my 2 line cordless phone was interfering with the operation of the MagicJack phone on "Line 2" of the cordless phone. I had always used a 4 wire phone cord, but recently upgraded my cable-modem, and the new one apparently has some activity on the 2nd Line that interferes with use of Line 2 from a different source.
I solved this by using a 2-conductor phone cord from the cable-modem on line 1, so that it does not touch line 2. The separate line I use from MagicJack to the Line 2 connector is the only electronic device on Line 2, and things work fine again!
