MagicJack Plus busy signal sounding when receiving calls

Post by Thompa »

We upgraded our Magicjack Plus and have changed our Internet provider recently. Using Frontier now with our own Google WiFi modem/router with speeds of about 500mbs.
New Panasonic cordless handsets were bought.
Whenever we receive a call we hear a busy signal and the caller's voice is faint making it impossible to carry out a conversation.
When the call ends, the number of the caller is not logged either. Outgoing calls are not affected.
Blue light on side is solid and adjacent green light flashing regularly. Near the ethernet socket the yellow light flashes and the green light is solid.
I searched online and found someone who experienced the same issues and blamed the MagicJack power supply which is rated at 1amp. They said upgrading it to a 2 or 3 amp rating would solve the problem.... but it doesn't solve ours! I bought a plug rated at 2 amp and had the problem and so bought a 3amp rated plug and still we have the issue.
If I pull the plug after a call and try calling our number with my mobile phone... then the issue does not appear... but it does return but I don't know when - which makes the issue worse!
I have given the MagicJack a static IP address and forwarded ports 5060, 5070, 49152 and 65525 - but this has not made a difference.
Can anyone help, please?

Solved? - time will tell!

After spending a few hours last night on Chat with Frontier and getting nowhere - being passed through 6 different people... I though again about the issues....
When we were experiencing the problem of hearing the busy signal and hardly being able to hear the caller, I recall there was a message on the screen of the phone (Panasonic KX-TG985SK) 'Voice mail msg. via phone co.'.
This lead me to look at the thick Panasonic phone and go to their website (https://eng-ca.faq.panasonic.com/app/an ... a_id/39202)... and sure enough, followed the directions and the screen returned to the time as it should have displayed and the phone appears to be now working normally.
Not, the time is one hour off from what it should be - but that is a minor issue - we are back working!
