MagicJack K1103 Issues

Post by QuiGonJohn »

I have a client I support who had a Win 7 PC and had her MK K1103 plugged into the PC and it was all working fine. The PC died and she bought a new one, with Win 11. I configured it and plugged in MJ, used screen to dial my cell, it worked, I ended the call. Figured it was all set. Well she called me later that day and said her MJ was not working with her corded handset connected to it. She heard the calls on the PC Speaker and had to use PC Mic to talk. She worked with Tech Support, but best was it would work on incoming call. I went there again and realized it could connect direct to router. So I did that, uninstalled the software on the PC and we did several tests. It all seemed to work fine, with her handset. Then a few days later, she called and said that it would not work to "some" numbers she was calling in France, but it did work to call other numbers there. Have you ever heard of a MJ being selective and not connecting to some foreign numbers but it does connect to others? I will be there again in a few days and could use some help sorting this. She wants me to plug the MJ into the old PC (which I put in a new hard drive and loaded up with Win 8). I'd rather see here keep MJ on router and stay with her new Win 11 PC. HELP!

Very strange that some numbers in France can be called, but not others. I assume, of course, that your client has sufficient funds in her MJ account. Can she make domestic calls OK?

MJ can be funny, and not in a humorous way, with some routers. You could experiment with opening various ports, etc., but if you're like me, you'll just end up making everything worse. My solution to router problems, assuming this is a router problem, is to connect an old router to the new router and plug the MJ into the old router. I bought an obsolete B/G spec router on eBay for $6 and it did the trick and has for several years; your results may vary!
