How to Register?

Post by hilsboro55 »

I never activated my Magic Jack Plus account when I should have and now I can't seem to get back to the welcome screen to click on the link to register the MJ and get a phone #. How can I get back to that screen? There is a magic Jack icon on my desktop. when i double-click on it, it looks like the right screen comes up for an instant and then goes away and another irrelevant screen comes up.

In the situation I find myself in, I can make outbound calls on the MJ but cannot receive calls ...... more than likely because a phone number has not been assigned.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I would download the MJremover.exe program from their web page and start from scratch. Once you run it and then plug back your MJ dongle and let it update. Hopefully that will get things back running for you.

Hi Joe,

Was successful going to my Control Panel and using the Uninstall function. I uninstalled Magic Jack successfully and then plugged the jack back in to start from scratch. This time the page came up where I could click on the link to register and get a phone number. I'm electing to keep my old number and apparently that will take 5-10 business days to implement. I don't know if I will get an e-mail notification when that is accomplished or not? Hopefully when that is done, I'll be able to plug in my jack without a computwer and be able to make and receive calls on my old #.

Thanks for your help.

If it were me I would have used the Plus for a few weeks or longer ( with a new number) until you were sure all was working well and you were happy with it. THEN port over your old number, but then that is me.

Hope it all works out for you and you can check the status of your port by logging into you MJ account ( www.my.magicjack.com) under the phone number tab and then the transfer number section.

Good Point, Joe, although I am very pleased with the audio quality and had no difficulty making local or long distance calls. I guess my motivation to rid myself of the $55-$60 a month phone service that I currently have and use so very little got the best of me. Crossing my fingers that everything will turn out for the best. A couple negative items that I will have to deal with are
a. will not be able to use my fax in the future, and
b. will not be able to use my corded phone during a power outage

Have you run across any other irksome or troublesome issue(s)?

Some fax machines work with MJ my HP all in one deskjet printer does an OK job for faxing.

A small UPS can provide phone service long after the power goes out, mine has been real world tested for up to 4 hours.Cable modem,Router, MJ PLUS,Phone base station all connected to the UPS.

I also have one unpowered phone in the kitchen that works good.

The only thing I didn't like was 10 digit dialing for local calls, but for me MJ is mostly used for long distance calls.

Hi Matt,

To send and receive faxes via the MJ does the multi-function printer (Fax) need to be plugged into the MJ as well as the base station for a batch of cordless phones?

As far as using a UPS ..... good thought. Will start pricing some out.
