How did you do this without the needed ram/rom?

kulumbaa,

So you are saying you got DirectX to work on 512/256? If so you will have to share your secret with the rest of us. I tried for no less than four hours before I PM Dave and asked him if it was doable - to which he said emphatically NO. I stuck a 512 ram in and it came right up - "Go figure". I would have thought it would run and maybe just have to switch a lot in and out of ram.

i dont really remember exactly wat i did few days ago to install it on a 256/256.

however what i would suggest is to go to the control panel and ram disk manager increase to atleast 50. commit and try to install and see what happens

EDIT

I can confirm 100% what i said above just duplicated it on my t5710 256/512.

i have about 33mg free on my c drive when i did it and when it was done i had about 15megs left.

my ram diskmanager was set to 52.

good luck guys.

Hi kulumbaa,
Thank you for your post. I've now got my t5710 up and running without any "no sound" dialogs.

I did what you suggested and set it to 54, but also needed to follow a few extra steps to get it working fully. Here's what I did:

1. Reset the ram disk manager to 54 and committed
2. Plugged in my thumb drive and installed the DX upgrade -- it installed the main exe to a folder.
3. Went to the folder: c:\Program Files\Altiris\eXpress\Deployment Server\RIPs -- then double click on the "Add_DirextX_9.0C_B1.exe" --- this will install the DirectX upgrade on the system...... committ
4. Went to: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\... and deleted the "mjusbsp" folder
5. Committed and rebooted
6. Plugged the MJ back in.... a MJ picture appeared saying I needed to plug the MJ into the USB port --- I double clikced on the picture-- IE opened at the MJ site---- in the process the regular MJ start up picture appeared and began to load the software.
7. I closed IE "quickly"
8. MJ began to upgrade (You're LuckY etc).

9. Made a couple of calls and it worked perfect.

NOTE: All the above changes/settings were done begin loged in as the Administrator.

The only thing I'm not sure about is -- if I need to reset the Rad control back to a lower number than 54 --- anyone?

Hope this helps someone.

Blessings

Hi,
glad to hear it works for you jw.. yes you can lower your ram disk manager back down after the install..
I guess the question I had was --- would the TC run better if the Ram Manager was set to a higher level (54)... or would this higher setting bring further problems down the road -- if it was not returned to a lower level?

Blessings

how much free space do you have on your c drive and how much ram did you allocate from the ram disk manager.

also you need to follow the instructions few posts back about unzipping the files onto a flash drive and executing it from there as HolmanGT has stated.

I think we established you had 512Meg ram before you sent it back. Why don't you copy the DirectX file from your flash drive to your C: drive and install it from there?

Do you get error(s) when you try to copy the file to drive C: ? Do you get errors when you try to run the DirectX file? What are the actual errors?

FROM stroths....
Gaining Administrator Access

1) To gain access to the Administrator account so you can make changes you’ll need to hold down the shift key and go to the Start button and select log off. Keep the shift key depressed and the TC will then present you with a normal log on box.

2) In this logon box enter Administrator as both user and password. The TC will then log in as Administrator.

3) Next go into control panel and go to the "HP Login Manager". Change the Default User Name to Administrator and the Default User Password to Administrator as well. Just leave the Default Domain blank for now and click OK.

4) Now go to the EWF Configuration in control panel and select “Commit Data to Volume”. This will make the changes to logon on as Administrator persist; otherwise if you just rebooted the TC would revert to the setting you had at the last boot up. This is what EWF is all about. Any changes you make are just temporary when EWF is running and do not get permanently entered into the c: flash drive’s data unless you instruct EWF to do so by committing data to the volume.

Ok so we have now set the TC to auto logon as Administrator and made the settings permanent. Now you can go to the start button and select restart. The TC should restart and log back on as Administrator automatically.

Read through the thin client threads. There are some tweaks to help you get better calls. Good Luck.
