If you can't get it from upgrade.talk4free.com then an older version should reside in your mjusbsp folder somewhere, dated 4/10/09.

I did an update after a computer chat with a Magic Jack tech person. She kept having to make me wait while she went to get help. She had o idea what I was talking about when I mentioned the beeps. After the update, I called a friend, and also my brother and both reported hearing no beeps. However my mother (who has an exceptionally OLD cordless phone) is still hearing the beeps.

I am having the same exact problem as everyone else on this forum! It's horrible because I actually printed my business cards with this number on it! I want to get rid of MJ now because I highly doubt they'll be coming out with a fix anytime soon. People should be inundating their customer service with these complaints to put it on their radar. I just wrote "dan" at magicjack complaining. I also told him that I would try to inform the local Los Angeles news station about this problem because they do stories on products that are shams. That surely will not help MJ's sales!

I had this problem since the June 9th "update" You can look back and see me and many others complain about it.
This is what fixed it for me
6/19/09 upgrade:
http://upgrades.talk4free.com/upgrade/20090619000002/
If this doesnt fix it for you MAYBE some of the other suggestions offered in the MANY pages on this topic might help.
For one you can try reducing the volume of your mic to 1/3 of the way.

I also downgraded to the 4/10/2009 version as the new (but not necessarily improved) version did nothing for me. I was getting the beeps every 3-4 minutes (about 10 per hour). I am on the phone for most of my work day and so, I should have initial results in 24 hours and will post them here.

I have now installed the June 16 upgrade, will keep you posted.
Also got a new response from chat support over at magicjack.com
"Apologies for your blah blah blah.... I have sent this to our engineers, I hope this issue will be resolved in 48-72 hours, I am not holding my breath on this one, also got this from
[email protected] :
"Dear Stewart,
I am Arnold and was asked by Dan to address you and help out with your issue. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Please try this.
Go to Control Panel and click System
Click Advanced tab
Under Performance, click Settings
Under Visual Effects Tab, click the round button Adjust for best performance
Click Apply then OK then OK then COMMIT. Thank you.

Would love to know how reducing my graphics performance will stop the person on the end of the line from hearing beeps but hey, worth a shot, will report back on the June 16 upgrade, Engineers from tech support and the best performance option.
Thanks.

Once the 30 day trial buyers start flooding back, they'll fix it.
I'll give them a month or 2 then I'll just go another voip route. Some really nice "pay as you go" plans out there.

Do you have a fix for this beeping or not? You guys have had me running in circles for over 15 hours and tried every fix on the planet with no success. When I was having the problem I called Wal-mart, Radio Shack, Best Buy and Staples. I let them know there is a BIG problem with the MJ of late and to be prepared for MANY MANY returns IF MJ doesnt fix it..
Will it help? Not likely but usually when a company is hit in the pocketbook they may take notice. If those above mentioned businesses STOP selling MJ maybe then MJ MIGHT do something.
I was lucky as the June 19th update fixed the beep problem for me... Sadly not everyone.

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh today, when an missionary living in Honduras, Central America, called in today to comment on Obama's alignment with dictatior, Mel Zelaya. Anyway, while he was talking, the same beeping noise that the Magic Jack phone makes, kept occurring. So I'm betting the caller was using Magic Jack.
At the following website is a script of the conversation. However, to hear the beeps you would have to subscribe to Rush Limbaughs website.

I too have the beeping problem. I went and got live help and we installed the the latest software, this was yesterday. The beeping did not go away. Finally it was suggested that I use another phone. Tried 6 phones some did less beeping them others. But the beeping was still there. Once in a while I will get a session that there is no beeps.
I too use the phone for business and the client on the other end think that I am recording the calls, not good!.
I am slated to be renewed in 2 months if the bug is not fixed I will have to cancel.
I thought that I was the only one until I found this forum.
Hope someone comes up with a fix!

Now this might sound crazy....and I've had it up to here with mj support, remote control opening ports, etc. because two days after that I had a trojan that took me down and I spend two days reformatting and getting myself back up....
BEEPING....I've had it since 1 day past my 30 day trial...yeah go figure right?
Anywho....here's something I've tried that seems to have helped for me.
Off the softphone on your screen open the volume/headset control...now if you have telephone ticked you're going to see the USB device tigerjet crap....which everyone has to change on their control panel sounds right? So why's it there I asked myself....change it to headset and click it and it'll change to your devices on your PC....seems to be helping on my end, not sure why or how but so far so good when NONE of the upgrades, downgrades, accept all cookies and all the other scripted mj support tips have not helped?
I'm female and believe me I hear MORE than my share of beeps and now people on the other end hear them as well

I installed the the soft phone upgrade mentioned previously in this thread. It worked for me, so when my neighbor called my landline from her mj, which was beeping like crazy in my ear, I sent her the link. After she downloaded it, she called me back--mj to landline. I didn't hear a single beep.

Was just thinking, if people have found that the June 16 fix is working for them, which I am one who is lucky enough that it is, I am going to just run a scheduled task and have that upgrade install every-day, if a new upgrade does come out it will get me back to normal.
Not sure if this is a good option but just wanted to put it out there.
Thanks,
Can people reply and update as to whether beeping is still a problem or not, and what fix worked for you?
Posted: Thu Jul 02, 2009 12:04 pm
by bitstopjoe
That wont work when they release a new "LUCKY YOU" update. As soon as you install the old update the new update will install.
The reason it is working now is the June 16th or 19th update is NOT a forced update as the June 9th was. In fact if you run the update from the MJ web page the June 9th is the update you will get. That is the one which cased the beeping problem for many. When that happened many of us when back to before we got that update, but as soon as we did it was forced on us. I have to assume any new LUCKY YOU update will do the same. All we can do is keep our fingers crossed for the next LUCKY YOU update and pray it doesnt do more harm than good.

I seldom use a phone attached to the MJ. My experience is that audio quality is greatly effected by the quality of the telephone attached to it.

I have the same beeping problem. Using a P3 processor Windows XP machine beeps about every minute. I changed the computers to a Mac Intel 2 core duo and the beeping went away on that conversation.
Might have something to do with the processor power on the computer used for the magic jack?

OK, you people are not going to believe this, but here goes.
After reading about others having these beeping problem, I saw an ad about Sipgate that was posted on this forum. So I visited their site, registered with them to try the FREE features of their service and from another party I ordered an unlocked Linksys PAP2 NA SIP VoIP Phone adapter to use in conjunction with a regular phone. These are the unlocked adapters that Vonage used with their service.
While waiting for the adapter to arrive, the June 19th upgrade link was posted and after installing it, the beeps on the MJ service have been greatly reduced, until this week. Oh well, it seemed to correct it for a week, but here's the kicker.
Today I received my unlocked Linksys adapter, I set it up in accordance to the instructions provided by Sipgate at their website and it configured and latched up to their server with only one problem. You got it, even though I'm using an entirely different phone with the Linksys adapter, I'm getting random, intermittent touch-tone beeps on that service too. Two steps forward, three steps back.
Holy crap Batman, I'm starting to think to myself, is this turning out to be a Cable ISP (Roadrunner) problem or what!!!

Do a Google search on annoying beep tones on VOIP you will be amazed how long this problem has been going on, WAY before MJ days!!
It blew me away!!

OK. I did a little (well, more than a little) research on this after someone eluded to it earlier in this post.
Do a search for 'DTMF VoIP talkoff". The random beeping is what is called 'talkoff'. It seems to be common with VoIP equipment. High end VoIP phones/ equipment allow adjustment of this to reduce or eliminate it. Some routers that include VoIP also have this setting. Apparently MJ does not (there's a big suprise)
In my experience with MJ after 2 weeks, my voice seems to setoff more #1's and 4's. Everyones voice is different and, my guess is that, unless they come out with an MJ that contains the circuitry required to allow DTMF talkoff squelch capabilities, then they will never completely eliminate this problem for everyone.
I made the adjustments posted by Thunderstruck (Thank you) and started exclusively using the computer headset/ softphone combination. I was on the phone ALL day today for my job. I asked each person on the other end if they heard any beeps or what the quality was like. All said they heard NO beeps and that, had I not told them I was using VoIP, they would have sworn I was using POTS and would never have known the difference. I have RoadRunner with 8Mbps and a Netgear 802.11g router and, I had the 6-19 update on the MJ.
For 40 bucks initial investment, I will keep this for a year and, if something better comes along, I'll reduce the MJ to dust with a sledgehammer; much like the guy destroyed the fax machine in the movie Office Space.
Hope this helps everyone.

Now, here's some more food for thought.
After my last post, I called a friend of mine who lives about 20 miles from me, but this time I used my Skype service in conjunction with my Vtech Skype enabled cordless phone system. I got absolutely no beeps and the sound is crystal clear. Is this because Skype calls are encrypted and maybe the effects of the NSA wiretaps aren't causing the same problem that the other VoIP services are experiencing?
I've got my MJ and Skype services running on a thin client, while my Sipgate is running on a Linksys PAP2 SIP phone adapter that plugs directly into my Linksys router. Go figure.

Very interesting. If MagicJack is reading this, a very simple solution would be to allow the user to allow the user to disable talkoff. Most calls don't use this, and if the quality is good enough, then it is not needed. If it is needed, one could enable it just for the necessary calls.

Personally I had great support from whoever it is that mans the "dan@magicjack" e-mail address, they confirmed the June 16 update, I also requested to change the server I am on and this was done in a matter of hours.
My initial experience with the MJ was, well, terrible however it seems they might be getting a little more aware of the problems we all face, they certainly know about this forum.

I had to use my cell phone for a call, the person on the other end was so annoyed by the beeping. First it was on my end about a couple of months ago. Now it is on the other end. This is so frustrating, people don't want to talk because of it. I did email
[email protected] a similar email sent by one of the users on this forum. I hope this works and they take note and correct the problem ideally BEFORE the next update.
