Official BEEPING troubleshooting thread
Moderators: Bill Smith, Pilot
I was able to use the patch. I got a response from someone, not Dan, with the patch to fix. So far so good. No beeps. They also responded the same day, almost within the hour I sent the email. http://upgrades.talk4free.com/upgrade/2 ... pgrade.exe
No audio for remote person for first 5-10 secs
When incoming call comes to my MJ remote user can hear "Hello" from MJ phone, but after that no audio for 5-10 secs and than audio is restored...
I am seeing this problem recently... Any idea why it is happening... Is it related to this issue... Any help would be appreciated...
I really regret buying MJ... was great with ATA now it is PATHETIC...

Yeah, that patch is version 1.80.4944.3456 and it did seem to be better for 2 days...then it came back. But, the beeping is a random thing. Some days it is very bad...other times I go for days without it.linny wrote:I was able to use the patch. I got a response from someone, not Dan, with the patch to fix. So far so good. No beeps. Yup, everytime I write Dan they give me this same fix over and over again. When I tell them they gave this to me 7 times already they never respond to me.

I am hearing all of this praise in here about this dan charactor. My experience with him has been horrible. in a 2 week period they sent me 2 fixes. Both times I had to innitiate and generate a new introductory email to them. after i tell them it didnt work they never respond to me again. Dan sux in my book.
Look at the string of emails below between myself and Dan. This is comical. They dont read the email that you send them telling them what they did didnt work. This is the same exact email word for word twice that they sent to me! This sucks!
Dear Michael,
Our apologies for the inconvenience caused.
Some people are experiencing this beeping issue. Please download and run this Patch with your magicJack plugged it. It should eliminate most of the beeping sounds:

Starting to look at other voip alternatives. There are many cheap ones to choose from.
I have been blaming magiJack since around the December timeframe when the beeps started for us, but I am starting to think it is the sensitivity of the Panasonic speaker phone we use. Last night my wife called me at work and I had her hold the speakerphone a bit further away and in 45 minutes, it didn't beep once.
I am going to reduce the volume a bit on the Panasonic handsets and see if that helps.

Beeping MagicJack
I downloaded the suggested update. I called my sister, and she noticed the beeping was still happening. I glanced at the panel on the magicjack page that displays the number I called, and there were two additional numbers by my sister's number.
I then asked her to tell me if she heard a beep when I typed the number 7 on my keyboard. When I did it, she said yes. So what I did was clear all the numbers that were in the display area, and after i did that, we talked for a while and there was no more beeping.
There are many times that I am typing on my keyboard when I am talking to people with the MagicJack, and when I typed a number, the callers probably heard the beeps.
Maybe by simply clearing the display after your caller answers the phone will prevent the beeping problem from happening. I hope this simple solution works for everyone.

You need to read this WHOLE topic and see this has been mentioned before. YES the beeps the other person hears are shown on the softphone. Other than the June 19th update what you suggest will not help, sorry.
Read all the suggestions given ( yes it is a lot to read, sorry). The June 19th update stopped the beeps for me but not for everyone.
One other thing to try is to reduce your speaker and mic vol in the headset volume control sextio to all the way down or 1/3 the way down. Good Luck

The trick for me was to install the recommended update, and the part that made it work for me was to reduce both speaker and microphone volumes down to zero on the soft phone. I made one 5 minute call with no beeps. That's a first for me so time will tell. I'm hooked up to a thin client using a set of 4 Panasonic wireless phones. Hope this helps someone.

I was on the June 16 update, working fine, no beeps at all, then encountered some static on the line (think it was issues with my sound card drivers) But... installed the most recent upgrade to see if it would resolve the static, no dice but beeps back immediately.
Just wanted to give more positive feedback to June 16 update.
For me enough is enough though, magic jack is being canned, shame though, so close to being amazing value but doesn't matter how cheap, not reliable enough.

Beeping MJ
In all the forums addressing this issue I have never seen anyone question the amount of Bandwidth people are using. I'm averaging 30KB Uplink and really felt this might be the problem. Is anyone experiencing this problem with faster uplink speeds?

I have DSL with 5050 kbps down and 789 kbps up.
Until the June 9th disater update never ever EVER had any problem with my MJ since Aug 2008. AFTER applying the June 19th update all is well again and no beeps. I REALLY doubt the bandwith has ANYTHING to do with the beeps. Choppy sound?? FOR SURE.

chugg I think the general consensus was that the June 16 Fix is ultimately the only solution, it didn't work for everybody but certainly many.chugg wrote:I wonder if there will ever be a fix on this or will a few of us people including me have to go find another voip. This thread seems to be in active so i assume most got their beeps to go away.
A few people have had luck by changing phones, increasing/decreasing volume, using speaker phone etc. but generally it was the June 16 fix.
Was given the 6/19 update by a MJ rep...
but we still deal with the beeps on the other end. I've actually been looking on the web for a little while and finally found this forum. I got the MJ in May of this year and as far as I can tell have always had the issue... started like a lot of you... you hear the beeps and then it gradually moves over to the party you are talking with to where it happens only to them almost 99% of the time. THe guy that posted the Divx fix, how does that help?? Just curious..
We have a Panasonic Cordless Phone, KX-TG5422, and it was intersting to see someone else had a Panasonic,,, but we do not use the speaker phone while on a call. I admit that some of the beeping has reduced with the 6/19 but it still happens. One phone call went for about 8 continous beeps on the other end at one time but I cannot remember if the 6/19 was applied.
Concerning this post:
Thanks,
Rob

Concerning this post:
red and green lines - are you talking about the RJ-11 line (phone line) or network cable (RJ-45) itself and if so how? Did that fix it on your end or have you tried yet?WayneStation wrote:I've had mj for about a month and a half, there are one or two beeps per call after the update, don't remember if any before. It is definitely the beep from # 4, I noticed the tone was the same each time and compared it to all the phone buttons. I tried a powered usb hub but that didn't work. I still want to get a 100k ohm resistor and put that across the red and green lines, I was going to do that anyway.
Thanks,
Rob
FYI.. I've read other posts (not this one) where other people are using different softhphones... one called XL lite, the problem is that is asks for user info that is not needed with the MJ softphone but they claim to use it with no problems,, and no beeping from what I read but they didn't explain how to set it up and the thread was closed. Anyone else tried a different softphone and have instructions on how to set it up? The MJ softphone is going to pop up no matter what since its flashed in the device itself so any ideas in this area would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

Rob

Well they sent me a replacement and it beeps just as bad as the first and on top of that when you dial a number it just goes immediately back to a dial tone....or you hear dead air and the person you were calling says the phone rang, they answered and you didn't say anything you just hung up....go figure....I guess in theory its a great product, in pactical application on my end, it sucks
Ive been told to try all the things that I have read in this thread as well. None of them work.
However, I found out by holding down the backspace key the beeps stopped. But who is always sitting at the computer
Im so glad I only renewed for 1 year, MJ does not deserve to be paid that far in advance when they cannot fix a problem that they caused. Im going t be forced to find another provider at this point because Im sick and tired of this BULLCRAP.
I am however sending this thread to the News channels along with my saved conversations with MJ tech support. The nation needs to become aware to save the few souls left from wasting their money.

Send a complaint to the BBB like was suggested earlier in the thread. I did and got an IMMEDIATE response, and replacement....too bad the replacement is WORSE than the original....I didn't think it could be much worse but I had two callers hang up on me today saying they couldn't handle the beeps....sad cause that's my business phone

Can't use the MJ anymore...
I too have been using the MJ for my "business line" and on some of my recent calls have had people call me out for beeping so much. It is really very embarrassing. I can't believe that they would have a problem like this for so long and stick to the same standard response routine of "try this, then try that, etc".
My job is in the software industry and based on reading this entire thread I would say that MJ either doesn't know what the problem is or they know what the problem is and they just don't know how to fix it. They figure that if they just "appear" to be responsive to requests by sending back these "things to try" then maybe people will be happy that they tried to get them working again and then will just stop using the service they have pre-paid for.
MJ is clearly recouping the manufacturing cost with the purchase price of the device and then they get people to sign up for 1 to 5 years of service and stop using it after a couple of months when the beeping gets too bad. MJ keeps the service money.
I will periodically check out the MJ to see if it has stopped beeping and started working good again. I too was an early believer and originally very happy with the product.

Time is up and I won't renew.
The beeps were on my end- I deal with it, still worth the money.
But now the beeps on are THEIR end- so embarrassing and I am tired of repeating myself.
I am up for renewal in Oct and won't renew. I'm going cellular if I can find a carrier with good signal strength my 'in the hicks and mountains' area.
I used to recommend MagicJack, now I will stop people from buying it. It's like a Bait and Switch con.

Here's a link to Penn State that describes "How To Turn Off Advanced Text Services". If nothing else, it might speed up your computer by turning off a function that most people do not use.

I'm going to the BBB
I have waited, and waited. Still no help.
Someone mentioned going to the BBB towards the first part of the forum, but I thought I would wait to give them a chance to try and fix this problem.
The 19th update fixed it for about a week. Then it started beeping every once in a while on my end, no big deal. Then it started beeping more and more, now it is starting to beep on the other end.
My yearly thing is due in the next month. I will not renew. It is like they don't care.
This was a wonderful product until the beeps. I don't know what the hell is wrong, but I will go to the BBB and report them.
Atleast MJ could do is put out a statement "Hey we are working on the problem" or something along those lines, but they just act like nothing is wrong.
Oh well, enough BBB reports will hopefully force them to get a fix.

Interesting because they did fix my beeps but I do get beeps in my ear on rare occasions. I wonder if this is the beginning of the cycle that you are on. TBD

chugg
Yeah, it is what happen to me chugg.
I was fine for a couple of weeks, maybe 3 or so. I would rarely get a beep in my ear, no biggie. But then it started very very rare in the other persons ear. Then come two days ago it was back to where it was (well not AS bad).
I left a review at BBB ( I didn't report, just left a review).
I gave them one last chance, they told me to "format" the MJ and then install the update. I did it, and no beeps as of yet. If I don't get anymore beeps I will edit the review.
If it keeps on, I will submit a report, I don't want to do that cause I know a lot of people abuse it, but I have gave them ample opportunity to fix this problem.
Hopefully chugg you won't have to worry about it.

Beepingmjinkc your using vista im on xp.not familiar with vista. The problem i see is the speech recognition is what is making the beeping noise like a fax machine.I talked with comcast and they seen random numbers while i was talking to them with magicjack and it is because everything is digital now. When you speak it turns to numbers and some words we are speaking it can't translate the number and don't know what to do with it so it beeps.i was blaming comcast for a while till is seen peeps using dsl and etc.. so i did some research and found that if you turn off advanced text just for that program. It eliminates the speech recognition basically back to analog .I haven't had a problem in over a week now with all the updates that didn't work.I use both the usb phone and landline phones wired through out my home. It was beeping only when i was using my landline phones and got embarrassing so comcast and i figured it out.Even though comcast don't like the idea of magicjack they was still helpful. The landline phones volume on mic needs to be turn down on the phones itself it will cause feedback and beep. But after i turned off advanced text i had no problems after that. And clear as a bell.Hope this helps for all people using magicjack.and hope magicjack sees this post cause im not letting them know so they can come up with another way to mess things up.They will just have to figure it out themselves. That is why the techs get the big bucks.Im a magicjack user for 2 years now and im happy ,it is my home and business line and had no issues besides the beeping which i solved on my computer.I found magicjack and was adamant about using it before it even came out to local stores. And i will never go back. The main thing i like about it is that your number will never be listed for spammers or etc.... and the voice mail and portability of it AND PRICE!!!!! i will check on it for vista users and post a reply to let you know how to turn it off just for the magicjack programs .

Hi Newbie...
Still Beeping
My existing setting is checked to 'turn off text services', and reads in the first box: English (United States). However, there are several checked boxes in the long list of languages section. Are ALL these boxes supposed to be 'unchecked?
Thanks

Beeping sound
After upgrading & more than 1 hour troubleshooting, the beeping continues. What a stretch to call it troubleshooting, more like guessing. Anyone have new information/suggestions?

Just wondering if anyone has had any new luck solving this? I've been following the thread and nothing thus far has worked for me.

EffinMJ claims that by holding down the backspace key, he can solve this problem. Another friend of mine claims the same thing. I haven't tried this yet, but I found that if one presses a nine volt battery on the backspace key and leaves it there when the MagicJack window is active, then one can't even dial a number. Let us know if this works.Gear-Monkey wrote:Was there a fix for this yet? I don't feel like reading 20 pages...
Beeping
Total Newbie here,
Has anyone established if this beeping issue is 'DTMF Talk-Off'?
http://teleflow.org/wiki/index.php5?tit ... es_or_DTMF
Or is it something else?
If it is Talk-off,
...MJ's users voice being translated into a keypad tone,
then only MJ could build in a filter to remove the problem?
different users/voices much more beep prone than others?

Ran upgrade again
I ran the upgrade a few weeks ago, and it didnt eliminate the beeps.. so I did a live chat with a MJ rep, this time she had be type the address http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe and run the upgrade again. I then made a 10 minute conversation with my wife talking (it beeps with her voice the most), and not a single beep.... crossing my fingers... I will not renew my service unless this is fixed.
International beep, disconnect, or no connect
I already signed up for the 5 year renewal, and bought some international time.... now, if I get connected, I hear the beeps, just before getting disconnected. Just did the latest upgrade from todays posting by Birdflu, by clicking on http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe - it took me right to upgrading, but I have no one to call this weekend, so will have to wait until the next to try it out.... after I also reboot WinXP on Suddenlink LAN.

The Update works, sort of...
The problem is that despite running the update http://www.sjphone.org/brands/YMax/2009 ... 9-6-19.zip , when i checked via Process Explorer, i found that the previous version was still running. You must make sure that the magicjack.exe in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\mjusbsp is file version 1.80.494.4. Once this is the case. restart magicjack and the beeps will be gone. This is confirmed on 3 machines.
