Yes. I would check with them first. I know Wal-Mart does for sure, for like 30 days. But you need to be careful if you want to keep your current phone number. Don't just plug the new one in and register it. You will get stuck with a new number if you make a wrong step.

Log on to their customer service and tell them what you want to do and they will walk you through it. You will get a year of service from the date you register the new device, not a year plus what was left on the old one.

Make sure the one you buy has an orange sticker on the back, that is the newest generation. And keep both active in case you return the new one. They may ask you to deactivate the old one, but don't until you find the new one works. I have 2 active for another few weeks and can actually still use both. I think it's keeping my 911 from showing on my new device, but that's the only issue I can find.

Then if the new one works, you can get back with them and deactivate the old one.

Play with the USB connection and any other tips you can find in here first before you buy a new device though.

I'm just a little confused. Are you saying the desktop had XP and the laptop 7, and MJ was working on both, but now neither?

If so, then it's probably the device if your internet connection is good, and you haven't changed anything else in the equation along the way like a router or modem.

For me anyone who does favors that they don't have to is kind. I have not sensed any discourteous responses and I wish my problems could be resolved with a click of a button and thus the tarnished reputation. But both my computers were running XP but changed to W7 at different times. But the problem remained. Why would changing a modem make a difference? Because that did indeed occur right at the time I switched to W7.

I'm not close to an expert on that, but it could be the way the new modem is interacting with the old router. I think a search on here or Google will find some modems not working well with MJ. But if there is a direct connection to the time frame between MJ not working and the modem switch, I would be suspicious.

I know this is a bit long after the last post in this thread, but I'm replying anyway so those who read this forum (like me just now) don't have to go through what I did to get their MagicJack up and running.

For those who have a fresh install of Windows 7, and their MagicJack doesn't pop up the dialpad when plugged into the USB port, one click on the following link should get them unstuck (without an XP install in a VM and copying folders):

Just run the provided .exe and your magicjack will auto-upgrade itself!
