I think I sent them an inquiry when I first signed up about some kind of USD1.36 balance in my account because I didn't understand it. I did eventually receive a response, but it was non-responsive and indicative of either the responder not reading my original inquiry or being entirely clueless. Either way, my question went unanswered. As far as I'm concerned, magicJack probably has better technical support since you can actually chat with them in real time.
Hi, forgot to mention that my inquiry was also about my account balance...not technical issues. I guess Skype is overwhelmed and lack of manpower. So far, I don't have any unresolved technical issues with these voip software. Sorry to hear that you never got your inquiry answered from Skype. That is bad customer service.

Hmm...Having never heard of Ooma, I would like to thank the OP for bringing this option up.
I had already called my phone company and scheduled a disconnect for the end of this month since my wife and I have cell phones. The $70.00 per month for a redundant system didn't seem like value for money to me. I wasn't planning on replacing the land line with anything.
I then figured I'd give MJ a try. $40.00 for a tryout is still much less than a month of my current phone. If it doesn't work that well or breaks in a few months, I'm not really out anything. Unfortunately, the local Radio Shack was out of them yesterday. Pretty popular gadgets I guess.
I'm awaiting a new shipment (today, supposedly) but having an alternative waiting in the wings is a nice touch. At $250.00 or so, it won't take much time to pay for itself.

As far as I know, ooma is not available in Canada or for calling Canada. So it's worthless for me.
I've also heard that after a certain amount of years, they can force you to start paying a certain amount of money a month. I can't confirm that... Apparently the security isn't the greatest, as it can use other ooma user's telephone lines to connect your phone calls. Much of what you agree to in the EULA concerns me. It did with magicjack, as well but magicjack didn't cost that much and I'm not afraid that it will hijack my PSTN line.
For a sticker price of $200.00+
I think I would go with skype before I ever even consider ooma.
But that's just my 2 cents.

Since the upgrade 6/8/2009 my MJ dongle has worked flawless.
Only strange things are if the call is busy it goes back to a dial tone and incoming calls will ring in your ear sometimes before connecting.
10-digit dialing is a pain but speed dialer helps with that.

My opinion - I had MJ and still use it when I'm on the road but for my home phone system I have been using ooma for 6 months and it have works very well for me. I have clear calls every time and so far only one interruption when someone cut the fiber lines. I am very impressed with the call quality and service. I would recommend ooma for someone who is looking to have a reliable phone system (if your internet is reliable).
