doan866,
All I have to say is terrible idea posting a thread about this. This thread is totally going to be out of control.
As everyone knows, the solution will come out eventually so it's not like hiding it for a while will stop the MJ team either...
At some point, it may turn into a cat and mouse game similar to the old Direct TV hacks a long while back. If/when it gets to that, it's simply not worth the hassle to me.

He has updated the first post, with the solution. Not a real solution if you ask me, and who is to say how long before the problem starts occurring with the new number.

I agree..good question is. How long? And it is a solution for a lot of people to get calls working again until we face the next one and figure out what to do next time.

I agree with not a real solution but his efforts gives us another piece of the puzzle to work with. If changing to a different number worked then what does that mean?

What happens if you get support to reset your account instead of changing your number?

The SOLUTION:
What I did was read the forums and realized that it was only affecting users who already had service for awhile and needed updates.
I went ahead and logged into my account and said 'what the hell, I'll request a NEW number to get a NEW authorization password.' I did it and used MJINFO to get the new sip information and it freakin worked. The drawback was I had to change to a new number. All of the configs remained the same on my end except for the User Agent, the NEW pass and NEW EXXXXXX01 ID. So that's it folks... I didn't want to be a prick and hold out on this but this is a simple fix for me so far. Let others know if this worked for you. BTW Your OLD NUMBER WILL STILL WORK for 30 days. As a matter of fact, after punching in the new info I tested it by calling my new number and old number, sure enough it WORKED!!!!!!!!! Old number will forward for 30 days.
Sharing is Caring!!!! REPLY if it worked for you so we ALL know
MJ still is worth it so far.
What this tells me that MJ is blacklisted all numbers that were using service with out the dongle. New number will probably go down eventually as soon they find out.

How could they blacklist it?
It works fine with the dongle, but when PAP2 is used, it can't connect.

Agreed, if this in fact works it will probably only be temporary.
Can't be just a blacklist

If it were just a blacklisted set of numbers, then my number wouldn't work with the dongle. But it does work with the dongle.
So it is something else.

I agree. If your mj service was blacklisted, it would not work at all if you used the usb dongle or the ATA it would not matter.

People asking for pm - Read the first post. - it has been updated with the solution.
But I warn - MJ is on this forum - if you read the solution - so did they. I would think twice before changing your number for a solution that may only be temporary. It will definitely send a red flag to your account.

why would they flag you for changing your number? They offer it for free for the first time. After that you have to pay to change it.

I'm not so sure the problem with the older account hacks was intentionally inflicted by MJ, given that it was resolved simply with a new number.

the new user agent string is posted all over this forum. It does not help the current problem of our ATAs not working though it is indeed needed.
User Agent

I disagree that the User Agent is needed. I used my MJ SIP info with a pbx website and another with my ATA and neither one had the User Agent info in it. The ATA had whatever the default info was and there was no place to even enter it on a PBX Website so User Agent string is not needed or should I say wasn't needed in the past.

Several brands of ATA do not have any methods to enter the user-agent string, yet they worked fine before the upgrade. Obviously, the fiends at MJ know this which is why they came up with a way to effect all devices other than their own dongles.

then all you are doing is opening up the situation for you to be blacklisted. if they dont see that their equipment is logging in to their system, I am sure you will eventually get shut down. That is what the user agent helps to prevent.

you never know if changing the phone number will last or will go bad again in a day ..
we did not find a solution it is a bit of work around that might stick or not...
is there a way to force their live chat technician to refresh my account and release a new password?

Agreed, in fact, I think it probably is only working for him because they haven't updated his new phone number to the new Anti-ATA test. After all, if they "blacklisted" accounts neither the dongle nor his online account access should work so it can't be that. Other than that, the OP says that only his User Name, Password, and Agent Name changed. If that's the case, getting the most current ones of these via MJInfo should work and we all know it doesn't.
Keep trying people we need to figure this out...

Hmmm.....This is true and quite interesting....So maybe and just maybe as suggested in another post, changing your existing number and making sure that the user agent string is entered into the ata might actually do the trick. Of course it will cost me 10 bucks to try it, but maybe worth it if it gets me back online with my ata...Stinks though if I cannot do that with a pbx site because I use it for VOIP over my cell phone.

the User-Agent: ENSR2.5.47.0-IS6-RMRG0-RG900-EP1487109 is the user agent info from their system. If you look at the source and destination in wireshark or whatever protocol analyzer you used you will see the source for this one is their proxy address.

Hi All,
I just wanted to point out that you might have hit on something.
"mj is using these to agents to register"
"User-Agent: ENSR2.5.47.0-IS6-RMRG0-RG900-EP1487109"
"User-Agent: MagicJack/1.80.484a (SJ Labs)"
This is not always true. The user agent below is from another post
on this site where wireshark was being used to catch some registration handshakes.
User-Agent: ENSR2.5.47.0-IS30-RMRG0-RG900-EP1756539
So the question is... How significant & what do the differences mean?
So maybe this is part of the big picture???

according to wikipedia:
A SIP user agent (UA) is a logical network end-point used to create or receive SIP messages and thereby manage a SIP session. A SIP UA can perform the role of a User Agent Client (UAC), which sends SIP requests, and the User Agent Server (UAS), which receives the requests and returns a SIP response. These roles of UAC and UAS only last for the duration of a SIP transaction.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Session_In ... n_Protocol
thus the 2 user agents seen in wireshark.

My guess would be that their Anti-ATA list is static and does not check upon each login. Must be that they are running a scan of their Asterisk logs every so often and any registered non MJ user-agents get added to the Anti-ATA list. Next step is giving me a headache.

what type of info do you think would be in this anti-ATA list?? ip address? not good as many ip addresses change too often. MAC address? this info may or may not go past your router. What else would you add to this list??

I followed the first post and shelled out the 10 bucks for the sake of the group, LOL! It does not work! Don't waste your time!
Here's what happend....
I made sure that my pap2 was setup ahead of time with the User Agent string. Plugged in my jack. Went on the website, did the number change, jack rebooted with new number. Used the tools, got my sip info and disconnected the jack from the pc. Put my settings into the pap2 and VOILA! I was back online...........for about 15 minutes! Pap2 logged in and I made a phone call that lasted about 5 minutes. I hung up the phone and dialed my MJ number and it rang through and I answered and again kept the call on for 5 minutes. Next I dialed my old number (it transfers to the new number for 30 days) and it also rang through. I picked up and it worked.
10 minutes later (pap2 was still showing online) I tried to make a call and got a fast busy! Next I dialed into my MJ number and it rang through and I answered.
Tried to dial out again and fast busy. Pap2 still showing online.
I dialed my MJ number again and it went right to VM. Next thing I knew PAP2 was showing can't connect so that was the end of that and it cost me 10 bucks!
Oh and yes, I tried a few different proxies without success. Same old thing!
One more time......CHANGING YOUR NUMBER DOES NOT WORK, LOL!

I'll put up the first $10 via PalPal for the first person(s) to get an "accepted" working ATA solution. Probably we should start a Donate! thread. We could possibly use

No..... really? Why do you think I was suggesting info be shared via PM(check post 3 of this thread)? Either way, they have a system in place to detect the difference between the softphone/dongle and a ATA. Those who are not down yet, have a pretty high chance of being down soon.

Check your dial plan. This one always worked for me, 7, 10, 11, etc... Just change the area code.

we configure our on devices(on our dime) and ask for zero tech support.
It is our enginuity that has helped your product stay afloat.

I know ppl will be willing to pay $59.99 year plan for ATA option.. Dan is probably spending more money trying to stop us of using our ATA than he can make by letting us use it. Come on DAN you can do this! Do they have any idea how many vonage customers would switch???

Agreed, the voice quality is better on an ata vs the dongle. Dan why not sell a magic jack ATA? Vontage does. I am actually thinking about switching just beacue i can drive to Fry's pick up their pre configured ATA for 49.99 - 49.99 rebate (so its free!!!) plug it into my network and away you go. I think its ignorant to force people to have a pc running all the time just to be a phone server. I agree that most people would gladly pay extra to use a ATA device. From what I have read, you think some can steal your service with an ATA? I strongly dissagree, most of us have Dongles so we have paid for the service. I guess in theroy you could be using the dongle and an ATA, but if an account number shows up twice it should be easy to shut that number down. Rather than make a bunch of people who were very happy with your service angy and bad mouth the product. I used to tell everyone to give this a try, I thought it was an exelent alternative to POTS. Maybe I was wrong?
