whats the setup google/sipsorcery? Do you run it on ATA? What's your SIP input on ATA?

Well, I dumped MJ and went with netTALK DUO. I ordered it with the 50% off redemption code NTLKCRZYDISC for a total of $44.92 (includes the device and 1st year service). Annual renewal is 30 bucks, which is only 10 bucks more then MJ. The DUO arrived yesterday and activation was easy. I even got a local area code and seven digit phone number right in my home town. Calls in and out are crystal clear. They're even better then MJ was on the ATA. I've already forwarded my GV, MJ, Sipgate and Whistle Phone numbers to my DUO phone number.
IMO MJ has blown off a ton of future renewal revenue. If there were several hundred thousand or more ATA users; they're gone. Also, they have to consider there's a ton of dongle users that get sick and tired on leaving their computers on all the time and they just throw the dongle in a drawer. Plus, the quality of the dongle thru the computer is lousy; there was always a lot of stuttering. I found that out again when we were blown off the ATA and I plugged the dongle back in. So, you know a lot of dongle users get fed up with the lousy voice quality and stop using it.
Now, for a little rant. Don't go down the rat hole trying to setup GV/Gizmo5/Sipcorcery. I can't believe how many users still have Gizmo5 and Sipsorcery accounts that they can now activate. You would have to had signed up over a year ago to still have those accounts available. They're both now closed to new users. In the case of Gizmo5, if you want to sign up now, you have to purchase an "invitation code" on eBay. I checked on eBay and there were a few up for bid in Australia starting at $50AU. Give me a break.
If you want a free, free alternative go with Whistle Phone
http://whistlephone.com/service/ All you need in your ATA is the proxy, userid and password. You get those when you signup. The gotchas are you have to listen to a 15 sec commercial when you make a call and, when someone calls you, they hear "please wait while we locate your party". However, 50% of the time you never hear the commercial when you make a call. If you want to avoid the gotchas just put a credit on your account and pay as you go. Domestic US calls are $.017/min which are slightly less then Sipgate which are $.019/min. The Whistle Phone Discussion Group is excellent and there's a lot of good tips there. Just link to that off their main page.

Agree. MJ is slowly but surely screwing up his competitive advantage. I have 2 MJ and both expire middle of next year. Then bye-bye MJ and I'm thinking to get the DUO. I have no spare PC to live on all the time and the TC5700 is having its own issues as well. We are using our cellphones for most of our conversations during the day and for what I'm using the fixed line I may as well consider the pay-as-you-go plan with voip.ms that has excellent quality of sound and a local phone number for a 1$ set up fee and 1ct/min US calls ...!!

Whistlephone is great if you dont mind listening to ads when you place a call.
I actually had a Gizmo account but I use sipgate instead because I think it works better. Sipgate is still open.
Sipsorcery is the only issue as they are closed to new accounts. I was lucky enough to have someone on a similar message board offer me their account because they werent using it. But as an alternative you can use the GVOut tool. Not as convenient as NetDuo but its free and no ads. Only thing is that app has to be running on pc for ata to work unless of course someone could figure out how to run it on router like they did with mjproxy.

Thirded. If the source (which is reportedly .NET) could be ported over to Linux, I'm sure many in the community would help debug.
With yearly electricity costs at ~$1/watt for 24/7 operation, the Duo looks better (considered against even a 30-watt supply on a thin-client). But best would be to have either a new mjproxy or GVout running on the router. Ready to jump on the first of either that comes into existence.

Ok, now this is going off topic and this is mere speculation but I am wondering if Sipsorcery got the code it uses to connect to GV from az1324 who developed GVOut of if it was developed totally separate. If thats the case that I doubt the code will be shared. I know it just sends the http request and mimics going to the gv website and clicking to call but it still probably took a lot of time to program. The code asterisk uses is available publicly, written in python, and it has to be similar.
Again, mere speculation and regardless, kudos to az1324 for developing such a great tool.

Great, it seems there is at least some discussions around the topic. It has been dead for sometime now. I'm not a programmer, so cannot help here but I believe az1324 can, if someone can bring him back to this forum.

I'm curious, why is this script needed? Asterisk 1.8 fully integrates Google Voice for incoming and outgoing calls, nothing special needed.

Might be a little difficult if you're unfamiliar with it. You'll need to compile asterisk and its dependencies, then edit a few configuration files.

Or just load PBX in a Flash and then load the Ultimate PBX on top of that both very easy to install and most of the work is done for you. You'll have to input your usernames/passwords for GV, Sipgate or Ipkall.

Pretty sure this is the end of MJ hacks, looks like no one wants to deal with their BS anymore.
Oh well call quality was always an issue...
NetTalk with the discount was an awesome deal and looks to be a great investment

COUGH!!!!!, Excuse me and yes netTalk is better in some ways but don't give it any blooming flowers. I call it MagicJack II. Actually IMO MJ still TODAY if you know what you are doing will blow away the netTalk thru USB. Its true netTalk does'nt have the call limits MJ does BUT WAIT until they collect enough of money then they will give the customers the screwing. It's coming as soon as there income is'nt whats to be expected they will drop services etc. Remember it cost netTalk alot more to operate there system then MJ and thats why Dan don't care he has his DOE RAE ME already!
