Identifying the new MJ
Did we resolve that there is a new version for sale of MJ and how to recognize the package. Sorry I can't find the thread.

Isn't there a way to identify the actual dongle?bitstopjoe wrote:Yes, gen 4 and orange dot on package to identify it............haze10 wrote:Did we resolve that there is a new version for sale of MJ and how to recognize the package. Sorry I can't find the thread.

Re: Identifying the new MJ
Hopefully the Gen 4 users will chime in. IF I had to guess I would think there is an orange dot there as well. If not then seeing a new chip through the MJ window should identify it.. I THINK someone mentioned that chip EARLY in the Gen 4 discussion. I don't recall what it was..lychy wrote:Isn't there a way to identify the actual dongle?bitstopjoe wrote:Yes, gen 4 and orange dot on package to identify it............haze10 wrote:Did we resolve that there is a new version for sale of MJ and how to recognize the package. This was the only explanation I found so far, by redpepper. Nothing mentioned about an orange dot anywhere on the dongle.

It's been pretty well established by those you have bought one that there is an orange sticker on it. Elsewhere in here somewhere. If I wasn't watching election results I'd find them.tsmith wrote:This was the only explanation I found so far, by redpepper. Nothing mentioned about an orange dot anywhere on the dongle.

Here are various posts from here:
I picked up a 4th Gen at Tiger Direct here in Canada this week, and it had the nice BIG orange sticker on the back...came home, registered it, and all is GREAT...it really does seem to work better than my 3rd Gen, once you find the MJ volume control in W7 and turn it up At first I could hardly hear anyone, but then when I clicked my usual volume control WHILE making a call, there was a new one for "handset", cranked it to full, and now I hear everyone fine.
I seen so much BS about 4th Gen MJ aka 2010 MJ's i thought i'd chime in on this post. How do you know if you REALLY have a 4th gen is easy. The sticker on the bottom of the MJ in 99.9% of the cases will be Orange.
I've never seen one, but the guy who just received one from MJ directly had an orange sticker on it. I'm going looking for one tomorrow, so I'll have a better idea.

Thanks for that! I thought, based on one of the other posts, that I had the 4th gen. And what you said confirmed it. I was just curious!nailgunner wrote:Here are various posts from here:

Here's the quote from the guy who got it direct, so I think you're good.lychy wrote:

WoW...On Friday, MJ told me they would send me a relacement dongle, and I had it in my hands on Monday. Unbelievable...now that was quick service (great job MJ). It gets better, I now have a "Gen 4" (orange sticker). So far, no more missing digits when dialing, and I can hear incoming audio (although it started working again with my old MJ). in addition, I now have a green E911 icon. I had to contact MJ support because after I installed the new MJ (per the instructions) all incoming calls received a "non working MJ number" message. Support did a quick reset on their end, and all is well. I do not know if the green e911 icon appeared before or after their reset.

The sticker would be on the packaging, front or back, is my understanding (for what it's worth).
Edit: looks like it's on the back of the dongle.

They seem to be elusive. It appears to depend on what kind of selling turnover a particular store has.haze10 wrote:Can anyone post a photo of the orange sticker on the panel. I'm still not really sure what to look for. Are there any stores that have the new one, like best buy?
As far as what it looks like? It's apparently orange and it's apparently a sticker. You can supposedly see it without opening the package. So if you don't see anything that looks orange-ish and sticker-ish, I would move on to another store.

Here is a 4th Gen MJ, Don't even bother looking what chip it uses because all 4th Gen use the same chip. How do i know because i seen at min 50 of these. If your going to buy a 4th Gen just look for the orange sticker in the picture. There all the same. Just go to your favorite store and look on the back of the package as it's see thru and if its just like posted here ORANGE then 4th Gen. If It's WHITE it is NOT RIGHT!. Again if you live in a rural area or goto a store that sells 3 a yr forget it. You MAY have to drive a few miles into another town where business is more popular. Calling stores and asking b4 going is a waste. The stores are lucky to even know what isle there in!

Thanks for the pic as now everyone knows what it looks like....
Yeah Joe, I figured the wife still had the camera out and i have the MJ off line for now it was a only 2 sec thing so i had her snap two pics real quick. Still testing the other type of VOIP. But 4th Gen if its orange like that no need to do a blind test to see if you can read the chip numbers because i did and all have new chip sets. Except in PA a few PM me and there having a hard time and my only answer is your in a area that sales are slow so old stock. I can't even fine a 3rd Gen here period no more. So for someone that wants one and in a bad area i would say 100% if you rode to a major city ( I know that sounds crazy ) it would be 100%. Im no where near a major city but can spit on Dans home within a short ride.

Yes your 3rd Gen is fine so was mine. But the 4th Gen when used with MagicFeatures and the Vista OS make a big improvement on the audio for some reason. However the 4th and Win 7 and MF makes no audio difference. Strange. My MJ number gets forward to another VOIP number right now. I'll just switch between the 3 of the VOIP services i use. Well really 2 so far but there will be 3. NT is going to make up for THERE mess up.
