Hello,
I have a MagicJack (got it the other day). I have three laptops and a desktop on my home network (they all run thru the same router and cable modem), two laptops and one desktop have Windows XP with service patch 2 and the other laptop has Vista Home Edition. The magicjack will only work on the Vista laptop. I want to be able to run it on the desktop running Windows XP but unfortunatly I am getting "Please Connect to the Internet, and double click here [Error 3]" ... BTW I get the same results on the laptops running XP. I have tried different USB ports on each machine, disabled Windows Firewall ... any ideas suggetions would greatly be appreciated. Also, I should mention that I have a dial tone I just can't make any outgoing calls.
Thanks,
Rob Panosh

If you are using the router then you are behind the firewall, same thing happened with me,I just opened the DMZ port which computer MJ is connected. All set: now if i use MJ with other computer then I open DMZ port for that computer.rpanosh wrote:Hello,

>>What are the software firewalls you have running on the XP machines? Any ad-blocking program/proxy server?
I'm using Windows Firewall (which I disabled), but I also have a popup blocker I will try to disable when I get home later.

Ok I will take a look at that tonight.
I will post my results later.
Cheers,
Rob

rpanosh,
I don't think using the DMZ as suggested by banaa007 is the best method. Once you open up a DMZ channel to your computer you have effectively turned off all the protection that your router provides.
I would open the DMZ only for a quick test, if your MJ units start working then you know where the problem lies, now turn off the DMZ and attempt to discover a more safe method of getting MJ thru your router.
What make and model router do you have? You can try things like turning on Plug n Play in your router or opening specific ports required for MJ to function.
PS - Some ISP have been known to block VOIP traffic, so keep that in mind while trying to find a fix.

Excuse me but I am a little slower than normal tonight, did opening the DMZ to the thin client fix your problem?
I am sure there are those that wouldn't approve of that either but in the case of the thin client I would not think that to be a big security issue, not any worse than using Plug-n-Play which is what I do.
