Put the MJ USB Handsets to use

Post by jongasse »

My MJ subscription expired, and I will be using GoogleTalk for VOIP until they shut down the service.

What I want to do however, is put the MJ USB Handsets to use - to continue using my cordless phones for calls made using the computer, like I could using MJ softphone.

I am able to use the MJ hardware to continue calls initiated using the gtalk call phone widget over the cordless phones, but I want to originate calls from my phones like we are able to using the MJ softphone.

What I am asking for is basically - how do I write some code that would allow me to:

1. Ring the phone connected to the MJ Hardware
2. Pass on the caller ID/phone number
3. Dial out using the cordless phone dial pad like we can when using the MJ softphone

Has someone tried to do this?

Do we have a SDK that is known to work with the hardware that MJ uses? ( The lowend USB Handset ATAs available cost ~25 - ~$40 anyways, so why not reuse the MJ hardware )

How do I find out if the MJ I have uses these chipsets?

Have you tried them?

Also - is this the full SDK that will allow me to make and end calls from the cordless phone dialpad ( I am not talking about using softphone )

See the article "GIVE YOUR USED OR EXPIRED MAGICJACK A BRAND NEW LIFE" under this forum thread http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/some ... 02-15.html .

This outlines the existing possibilities for using a used or expired magicJack USB dongle with your phone and Skype or Whistlephone (or any SIP protocol based VoIP Provider of your choice).

Calls are dialed directly from your phone keypad just like you do with a regular landline phone. For incoming calls just answer your phone when it rings.

Both the plugins read great!

Infact I want to wrote something similar that would work with the googletalk plugin.

1. What languages are the plugins written in
2. which SDK did you use to interface the hardware with
3. Is that SDK available on the web
4. Could you share some snippets to handle the on-hook, off-hook and ring detection/generation the cordless phone?

Excellent job again!
