Returning the Duo due to 4 second delay

Post by andyha »

I am getting 4 second delays with the Duo. Also sometimes I have to dial a number 3-4 times before it goes through. I also am getting real bad echo. Was in touch with support and they said they were aware of the delay problem and within 2-4 days it would be fixed...well that was five days ago and it still sucks. My internet connection is real good very low jitter and great up/down speeds. I have the Duo in the DMZ of my router and changed the DNS servers to 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1. I am looking into returning it. The MJ running through my router was always excellent quality, little to no delay, the occasional echo, but for the most part very clear and reliable.

No surprise here. I do not see any reason to abandon MJ- for now.
BTW there are other things additionally to low jitter and good speed in order to have a good internet quality of service, just for the record.

I am close to returning the NetTalk Duo as well due to delays. My delay is using it with Google Voice. The delay is so bad that I can't hold a conversation even as well as a kids walkie talkie. The Duo only rings my phones after the calling party has heard 3 rings on their end, if it even rings at all on my end. I am wondering if it has to do with the PPPoE DSL I am using and the MTU settings on the Duo. Also when I get a call the answering party has already been speaking and I miss part of the conversation (eg. Call screening). None of these problems happen with magicJack.

I just opened up a ticket with their support so we shall see.

I still haven’t gotten mine. Wonder if they over sold themselves with the 50% off and the 2 for one deals. Also anyone know if they have more than one server? The one my free account uses is the "sip10" one I think don’t hold me to that exact number I would have to look at wireshark. Maybe it’s just a shitty over worked regional server and you could point to a new one I dont know just trying to help maybe when i actually get hardware in hand I can help more.

netTalk has more then one server, Wireshark won't show all info with netTalk anyway. I know i go thru there miami server and then they have a ton of trunks also. Most people i know received there Duo within 7 business days. However in the past i have read when the tk6000 was popular ppl waited weeks.

This has to do with NO ONE that has posted here so far, But to use DMZ with a netTalk is insane reguardless if it's in netTalks FAQ. Do you really understand what DMZ is doing, Even if you added the NT MAC address into your routers DMZ it is'nt really going to do a thing for ya either, If the router is like most under DMZ you can enter a IP address or use the MAC address of the device. The netTalk Duo DOES not like ALOT of Modems and Routers. Check there site for the list :!:

Intermittent NT Duo

Post by VaHam »

I had some problems when I first got my Duo. It was intermittent and would drop off line at times.

To make a long story short it turned out that I had received a flaky USB to mini USB cable. Once I replaced that all was well.

If your trouble shooting BTW you can use your computer's USB port just to supply power and still plug in the RJ-45 to your router. This eliminates the power module as a possible source of problems. f this doesn't work then the cable is a suspect just as mine was. I just grabbed another USB to mini USB I had and that took care of my problem.

I had spoken with NT Tech support on the phone and yes the wait was long by the young man was savvy and obviously here in the US. He is the one who told me to try using the computer to sub for the power module. He defiantly was not reading from some script but listened and we started working together to trouble shoot right away. So although very busy I'd have to say their tech support was good!

Since it was my cable and it was intermittent that made the trouble shooting process difficult since one time something would work and the next it wouldn't. They had actually given me an RMA and had me on the list for a new device.

After I remembered that one of my cameras used the same cable; I tried it and the called back and canceled the RMA for a new device.

Good point, I forgot about that. Even though i did'nt have a problem i knew 2 ppl that did. I am not using the mini USB to USB power cable myself. Im using a cable that was made for a Nikon Camera. If you have money to blow Radio Shack has a ass kick'n cable for it and 4x as thick and gold plated connectors etc FOR $24.99 and it is not made by Shit Shack either. BTW ppl that are using a powered USB Hub for there MJ the powered Hub usually uses the same connector. Mini USB cables for power is'nt the best route they could of taken. Many of you learned this as there used on cell phones too and you have had problems with it sooner or L8tr

Well I got a reply back from NetTALK support and it is going back.
I'm also experiencing delay with my GV account, I think there is an issue with GV.

At this time there is no setting change that will fix this.

Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you.

Have a great day!

I wasted half my day with this BS!!! Why can't their system just answer the call when the phone is picked up?

I did'nt get them yet but im using one from my Nikon Camera and no problems. Being the holidays are close the USPS does not honor the 2-3 day priority mail which sucks as im waiting for some electronic equipment more important then the USB cables, Anything to put me behind in setting shit up so i get it done
