Caller ID, Call Waiting

Post by mikeyg61 »

Hello...I have an Intel Mac Mini 1.83 Core 2 Duo. I originally had problems making it work with my Mac. I tried the Mac download on my Mother's XP computer as per the instructions on their web site. It failed many times. I was advised by Tech Support that a new Mac download was in progress. It finally was released on 03/31/08. There were 2 options. one for people that purchased there MJ between 03/08/08 & then for ones that purchased before 03/08/08. Now there is only one download for people that purchased between 03/08/08 & 04/12/08. I connected my MJ to my mother's Windows XP computer only to find that it wanted to download a .DMG file. It gave me the option to save or find a program to open the file on Windows XP. I knew this was a Mac file so, I plugged it into my Mac Mini. All went very well. Phone works fine making & receiving calls. Voicemail works. My only problem is that the Call Waiting & Caller ID option (On monitor only) doesn't work. I tried the same phone & MJ on my mother's Windows XP machine & all works fine. I call my MJ phone from my house phone while on a call & I get a tone. Also, I call my MJ phone & the phone number of my house phone shows up on the phone when hooked up to XP...But...Not the Mac...Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on how to resolve this. MJ customer support is no help. Some type very poor english & just posts links to the Mac download that I already did...Thanks

Are you using the same phone with both your Mac and your mom's XP machine? I'd try that.

Also, check this thread for info on a callerID fix... http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/inbound-cid-possible-fix-t108.html

Caller ID...Call Waiting Intel Mac Mini

Post by mikeyg61 »

Yup...I am using the same exact phone & MJ on both the Mac & XP computer. Call Waiting & Caller ID work fine on the Windows XP computer but, not on the Mac. I do get the Caller ID on the Mac monitor though but, not on the phone like when connected to the Windows XP machine. :?:

Caller ID...Call Waiting Intel Mac Mini

BTW...sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot. I am new here. I looked through Mac Support & didn't see this. sooo...I had 2 choices...reply...or topic....I didn't have anything to reply to..so...I hit topic..I thought it would go to the Mac Support page. I got a server error & didn't even think this posted. Thanx! for the link. It helped a lot! It seems a lot of people are fixing this problem with a 100 ohm resistor. Or as MJ suggested a Powered USB Hub. The USB Hub that I have didn't seem to do it but, there are people in that thread that have been successful using a Powered Hub. I guess the trick now is to find a brand & model USB Hub that will work to fix this problem. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction. For now on I'll make sure that my posts go to the right category. I never posted much to these so, I am new to how it works... :D
