My housemate just bought [i]MagicJack[/i]. He has internet via cable (12Mbps). I connected a wireless router to his system (between his modem and his computer) so that I could get the signal on my computer ca. 35 feet away and on my Roku (ca. 60 feet away) for streaming video from Netflix.
All's fine until my housemate actually makes a call on his [i]MagicJack[/i], at which point my wireless network is shut down--kaput!!!
As soon as his telephone call is over, the wireless router senses that it can once again go into action and my network connections resume.
What's going on and what can I do to enable me to use my wireless network without interruption and my housemate to use his [i]MagicJack[/i] without screwing up the network?
Any mavans out there? Thanks.

Any chance he is using a 2.4mhz cordless phone with his MJ?? If so MOST wireless routers work on that same freq. Have him go into the router settings and change the wireless channel, OR swap phones with a 5.8ghz or newer cordless.cavan wrote:My housemate just bought MagicJack. Joe Sica was spot on: it was the 2.4 Gig phone. I called Cisco re the wireless router and they walked me through the advanced settings. The channel setting was on "auto" and we changed it to "6." Afterwards, the wireless network worked fine even when using the [i]MagicJack-Telephone [/i]feature. Also, if I need to tweak the setting, I have my choice of all the channels (1-11) using the feature shown me by the Cisco techi in Manila. Thanks again and hats off to Joe Sica.
