Last incoming call phone #not saved in "calls"

This has been going on for several days now. The last incoming call phone number is not saved to my "call" list until someone else calls then it's on top of the list, but the new call isn't!!! I've made sure that the slide button is all the way to the top.
I can't return calls unless I write down the # while the call is in progress.
It's a problem... any clues?
